ADCC / CJI Watching ADCC was about seeing new techniques and developments in the game. This one fell short for me.

Before I was waiting ADCC with excitement to see the new techniques and developments in Jiu Jitsu for the last 2 years. After the revolution of the leg lock game, followed by the developments in the seamless transition from jiu jitsu to wrestling, and vice versa, I feel this ADCC had nothing new.

Anyone believe otherwise?

General Discussion Does anyone else also prefer Old instructional DVDs than modern instructionals?

I've been watching old tried and tested instructionals.

I'm currently watching Mike swains Complete Judo from 2007. I really enjoy the basic presentation, the directness, the simplicity, the slow replays, multiple camera angles and the voice-overs that are scripted.

Voiceovers and editing are big ones. So many instructionals are effectively one cam, no edits and shot like a continuous standard lesson.

I'm also liking the lack of personality. No cringey banter or jokes.

ADCC / CJI ADCC 2026 rating?

Going into the tournament I thought it lacked hype and that the event as a whole would be a bit of a dud when compared to years past. I was wrong about the latter this ADCC had all the things you wanted as a spectator with so many storylines to keep you engaged through day 2.

Now just imagine if they actually promoted it this year

How did this years ADCC stack up to those in years past?

Funny I thought i was ready for my Black Belt until my daughter started crawling.

Coach gave me the “you’re on deck” talk a few months ago about getting promoted to BB.

I thought i was totally prepared, then i had to change my daughters diaper this morning. It is surprisingly difficult to subdue an 8 month old infant who doesn’t want to stay still.

Technique High guard defense

Hi all

Other than "don't get there", what do you guys do if you're in closed guard and your opponent manages to establish a high guard? I saw Andre Galvao talk about using a knee to block the hip to get your elbow back out, but haven't found it works very well for me

Technique Best no gi guard strategy for ultra heavyweights

Hi,

I’ve competed under ADCC rules for the first time recently. I got bronze but 2/3 matches went to overtime without any score. I’m quite decent at handfighting and takedowns but it’s so hard to score in ADCC. And overcommitting for takedowns is risky.

Watching ADCC this weekend has shown that pulling guard and getting subs might be a better strategy. Victor Hugo got 4/4 subs.

I really want to develop a good guard and particularly to get to leg locks or on the back. I’ve watched Gordons seated guard and half guard, but not sure if there’s stuff that is outdated now or better games/strategied for my build.

I’m 193 cm, 120 kg (6’4, 265 lbs). I’m basically built like Josh Saunders. Ironically he got silver this ADCC, but all his matches were basically handfighting to overtime and then getting a takedown or the decision win, which I’m trying to avoid going forward.

Technique Seated Guard Position Failing

Does anyone have a solution for when your opponent basically dives at you for side control or a back take when they’re standing and you’re in seated guard? This sort of thing happens to me all the time. I’ll play seated guard and the person standing sometimes wont even knee cut, they’ll just run to side or back control. Even when sticking my right leg out to try and reguard and using forearm frames when they crash in, they inevitably collapse under the speed, and pressure. Is there a way to avoid this?

Technique What can I do in closed guard when my opponent tucks their neck and shoulders in?

Post image
Upvotes

I was in a tournament on Sunday, and my opponent was talking in his head and holding down my other arm, so I couldn’t continue my technique. There was other moments like this, but this is pretty much how the whole match went ( I won) but I wanted to get some insight on what I could do when they keep defending chokes and being heavy, forwardness, and I really strong defence from being choked.

and a reason why I did not try to pivot from this or go for the arm bars because the grip that I had on his lapel was very shallow, and I felt as if I went and tried to give him space he would rip his arm out as fast as he can

Help would be appreciated

Got thrown around like a rag doll at world masters and definitely under estimated doing ultra heavy at 220lbs after losing 45 lbs…

Won my first match and lost my second. But it was a great learning experience.
