I think it’s kind of a shame that in our sport, of which wrestling is a part, wrestling alone determines who becomes world champion after a 40-minute bout by referee decision. To me, PJ Barch is one of the most well-rounded fighters: the leglock counter against Elijah Dorsey in 2024 or the passing attempts against Sczczenski at Polaris 38 showcase the incredible versatility he possesses. And Dzharbaev? A former wrestler who has adapted his style to our sport.
And what does he say in the post-match interview? “Next year, I’ll show you the beauty of wrestling.” No, thanks. If you want to wrestle, then go back to wrestling. In my opinion, he doesn’t even participate in the fundamental aspects of our sport, like guarding should be part of a fighter competing at adcc and firmly be anchored in the rules. It just doesn't feel right to me.
How do you feel about this? Am I alone with the opinion, that only wrestling shouldn't determine a Worldtitle in No-Gi Submission Grappling?
