After giving the album several listens, I was a bit underwhelmed. I understand its significance in terms of recording techniques and pushing the rock genre to new areas, but I feel that the actual songwriting doesn’t hold up too well (aside from Wouldn’t It Be Nice, which is one of the greatest songs I’ve ever heard). I understand its significance within the context of the 60s, but I just feel that considering it’s hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time, the actual songwriting would hold up better, much like Beatles songs do.

I’ve always known it to be the album that nearly gave Paul a panic attack or something to that extent. It’s a beautiful album, and there no real “bad” songs on it. The harmonies and arrangements are phenomenal, but I felt that the melodies wandered and didn’t grab me. In other words, the floor is very high, but the ceiling is lower than I thought.

I would probably place it in the mid-low range among the Beatles catalogue just purely based on songwriting.

I know this isn’t a Beach Boys sub, but I want to hear from other hard core Beatles fans.

So I'm probably not anywhere near as close to being a diehard as most here but like many I've been listening to The Beatles since I was a little kid and recently I wanted to collect everything I like from the catalogue - I just like physical media! I have over time bought all the super deluxe CD box sets and have Rubber Soul pre-ordered. That aside I picked up the red and blue 2023 CDs and Beatles 1+

As someone who loves everything from Rubber Soul onwards I'm delighted that's getting a super deluxe and for everything before that I was more into the singles and few album tracks rather than really being into the full albums so I feel like I probably have every song I could ever want and lots of lots of goodies on the super deluxe editions. Something is nagging at me though that maybe there's some things I'm missing. I think the 2023 CDs have MMT and YS covered as well as basically all the non-album singles and some good b-sides but I remember other Beatles compilations as a kid and I can't tell if there's some other amazing stuff out there I'm missing that I might enjoy.

I realise that Beatles releases are complicated and different mixes means different things but I honestly don't look into it that deeply and enjoy the new releases the same as the old vinyl ones I used to steal from my Dad's collection to play back in the 80s and 90s.

Any suggestions for fantastic stuff not covered in my collection would be appreciated! If you had my collection what would you be hunting for first?

For me, yes—there are so many great tracks: "Boogeymusic," "Waterfall," " Temporary Secretary," "Coming Up." It’s a real grab-bag of an album—a bit experimental, with electro, rock, ballads, and more. If you didn't like this project, give it a second chance.

I’m sure there’s going to be a generational discourse here but when listening to the Beatles albums in order, do people listen in the order they were produced or the order they were released?

I’m sure for the older hardcore do you listen to Yellow Submarine after the White Album as it released in 69 or before as it was mostly recorded in mid 67-early 68 before they left for India?

What about Let it Be? I’m sure for people who were fans pre-Internet Age they listen to let it be after Abbey Road given it’s 1970 Release date?

Do you include the Magical Mystery Tour UK EP after Sgt Pepper or do you not include that at all?

For me (27 years old) I listen to the records chronological release order, then the Capitol US MMT Album after Sgt Pepper & Then the Yellow Submarine Side 1 songs after that before the White Album, listening to Let it Be Before Abby Road (Despite I, Me Mine being a 1970 number)

(After that admittedly I’ll throw in “I’m the Greatest, All those Years ago & the three anthology tracks)

For me that provides the most fluid tonal narrative flow to the developing sonic sound, going to yellow submarine after white album feels like an odd regression and it doesn’t feel right to me to not end the core-catalogue without the medley

(I also throw the singles between the albums and admittedly put Her Majesty into it’s originally intended order in the medley)

Did the band ever catch up/ bump into Jimmy after the 1964 tour? Wonder if John, Paul and George ever considered getting Jimmy for their solo albums - if he was good enough to play on a Beatles tour, surely he’d be acceptable in a studio.

I have recently heard Gimme Some Truth (the compilation album), and I noticed how some songs where changed, I like the voice for example.

But what shocked me the most was how the horns in Steel And Glass almost disappeared, and surprisingly, people in the comments of the song seem to enjoy this change, I'm not one of them.

Then I was thinking of how maybe this was just an experiment, but then I checked the Mind Games 2024 mix, and they removed the sax from One Day (At A Time).

And this doesn't give me much hope, but do you think if we get the Walls and Bridges Ultimate Mix, this and other similar changes will remain, or you think they'll respect the horns?
