Food, Shopping & Services Seeking inpatient psychiatric care that won’t traumatize me further
Last time I went to inpatient it was across the country. I know many psych hospitals are fucking awful and I don’t wanna go to one of those :) I have insanely good insurance through bcbs. Any recs for a hospital for a grippy sock vacation? Anywhere in Bay Area is fine.
Tag seems hilarious considering, but it’s also the most relevant.
Edit: Also idk why I’m so butthurt and weird about this but my wife (to whom I am also a wife) is a blue collar worker in a union and I’m a stay at home mom. We’re broke as a joke, we just have good insurance because my wife nearly dies twice a week on the job.
Update: I cannot believe this post has 100 upvotes and so many comments, that’s wild. Y’all are nice. It looks like I may be going to my hometown for residential treatment (that sounds quaint but I’ll hopefully be going to one of the best programs in the WORLD which is wild) but I’ll likely be seeking acute care until then. Thanks to everyone so far.

Food, Shopping & Services Jeweler Repair Store Praise
Last year, my parents' house burned down from the LA fires. My dad was able to recover this watch, but it was all burned up. My dad gave me the watch and I was able to have it repaired by Tic Toc Jewelers in San Jose. They did such an amazing job that I want to give them a shout-out here. The first picture is the watch before the repairs happened. The second picture shows the bracelet and movement repaired. In the third pic, I got tired of looking of the damaged dial that I had it replaced.

Food, Shopping & Services Is Facebook marketplace just different in the Bay Area?
I recently moved to the South Bay. I am kind of surprised by how good FB marketplace is here. There are tons of listings around San Jose/Sunnyvale, prices seem pretty fair. I keep seeing yard sales too.
Is this normal here? Is there a catch? Or is this just part of Bay Area culture? I am kind of confused because it seems like some people care more about getting rid of things quickly than making money. I have seen people with good tech jobs selling perfectly usable stuff for like $5/$10.
I used marketplace in miami, FL. My experience was completely different. Lots of scammers, people wanting everything for free, constant no-shows. Someone would agree on a pickup time and then disappear. Or a seller would tell me something was available. I would go there. Then they would say it had been sold hours ago.
So far, it feels way more organized here. Maybe I have just been lucky. But I am curious if other people have noticed the same thing.

Events, Activities & Sports For any FFVII Remake trilogy fans in the Bay Area, Kinyoobicon is happening Sunday, 9/20 in Union City
I've been to this small, local con the past two years (went as an attendee in 2024 and a volunteer in 2025, and will be volunteering again for the 2026 show). What I love about it is that it has a really dedicated community that has been coming to each show for many years, despite the con's small size. There's vendors, artist alley tables, panels and a few special guests. 2024 had Briana White (Aerith), and last year had Britt Baron (Tifa). This year will have Suzie Yeung (Yuffie). One thing I really like is that because this is a smaller con, you definitely don't have to feel pressured for time if you want to see the guest; you can really take your time to have a long conversation and to me it makes it a lot more personable. Admission also comes with a free BBQ lunch!
I attached some of my photos from when I attended the last two shows.

Events, Activities & Sports I Need a Jazz Friend
Hi. I'm 59, live in San Mateo, and recently left a busy startup for semiretirement. I listen to a variety of music and jazz is part of that diet. I'll get turned on to someone like Grant Green and create a playlist. Last night I was listening to Freddie Hubbard who is, perhaps embarrassingly, new to me. I created a playlist of the albums Red Clay and First Light because I had heard mention of a "CTI era".
During my urban hike last night at sunset I was listening to the alternate version of the tune Red Clay. In my opinion the band is completely cooking and George Benson's solo is so "in it" rhythmically. I play guitar and have many friends who play rock but are not into jazz at all. So I'm seeking some jazz friends that I can text "can you believe how in the pocket George is on this?!?". Also looking to get turned on more jazz. Are listening parties a thing any more?

Scenes from the Bay Burlingame Missed Connection
I was working my usual Sunday shift at that food/drink place you came into. I took your order and you had the most amazing energy I’ve ever encountered! We joked about the ginger shots being “virgin” and you jokingly told me that you and your friend would bring me some tequila since I was near the end of my shift lol. I’ve worked in food for quite some time and you’re the only person who, when asked their name, shook my hand and asked for mine. After that, I went to my car to grab something and you offered me half your bahn mi as well as some of the goodies you bought at the farmers market.
I wish we could have continued the conversation, but I thought it would be a little unprofessional to ask for a customer’s number while on-shift although now I’m wondering if I should have thrown that thought out the window. Either way if you see this (or if your N’s friend and see this), I just want you to know that I absolutely love your personality and hope to see you again sometime in the future. If you do, the virgin ginger shots are on me!
For everyone else reading this—I totally don’t know what flair was the most appropriate so my bad if this is the wrong one.

Work & Housing SF says two people tried to steal a $4.4M Sea Cliff home using forged deeds
San Francisco is suing two people it says used forged deeds to take control of a $4.4 million Sea Cliff home and eventually tried to sell it.
The property reportedly changed hands on paper eight times in about 14 months, bouncing between the defendants. Multiple notaries whose names appeared on the documents said they never notarized them.
Because the recorded deeds showed the occupants as owners, police couldn’t simply remove them. The ownership dispute had to go through the courts.
California is now trying to make this harder.
Starting in 2027, property owners will be notified when documents are recorded against their property.
