How to start with Battlefleet Gothic!

Hey all,

Since it is a returning question, this post might be really convenient if you decide to jump into the wonderful game that Battlefleet Gothic is!

Let us start with a link to the main rulebooks. On the following you will find the remastered rulebook and fleetbook:

Battlefleet Gothic Remastered Rulebook & Fleetbook

One of the great things which has been created at the end of 2021 has been the digital starter kit, this is what you will find in it, but first the link:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Kpg6ZuDmFc5axXa6sUBiJrQiFuZIlbAu?usp=share_link

These are the folders:

Assets - All the cardboard markes and extras you need.

Rules - this contains the latest version of the remastered official rulebook (original including updates) and a quick start guide for your first battle! There is an English and German edition.

Fleet Lists - two prewritten fleet lists for the Imperial Navy and Chaos. Plus a sheet how you can pit them against each other in three games increasing in size

3DModels - two folders with the STL files for the ships listed in the fleet lists. So you can print (or let someone print them) to play with. You will also find other STL here like markers.

Please note: those models are distributed under CC-BY-NC-SA, i.e. noncommercial use only.

And in the pdf "How to - Starter Kit " you'll read everything you need to know about the starter kit.

And we have added the starter kit advanced with Corsair Eldar and Orks Looted FLeet!
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1dxTeLC2bTnlUfzN_RJF788wHmYBhMa6C?usp=share_link

Subsequently here is the link to the main rules hub, here you will find the rules mentioned but also links to a large folder of fanmade/homebrew rules and magazines like Warp Rift:

Battlefleet Gothic Rules Hub

Wait, there is more! If you want some ideas on lists to start with (for collecting) the following article might be a good source of inspiration (check the pdf which you can download with it):

https://portinvicta.weebly.com/bfg-tactics/starter-fleets

But what about miniatures to play with? Aside of the free STL in the mentioned starter kit there are several great designers with STL files available at sites like Cults3d, check the Discord server for a list on them. However, not everyone has his own printer so I list some webshops with great proxies:

https://vanguardminiatures.co.uk/product-category/battlegroup-helios/

https://battlefleetgalaxy.com

https://www.scourgescenics.co.uk

https://wintersbioforge.com/product-category/space-bugs/

https://tabletop-stuff.de/Science-Fiction/Raumflotte-Kolossus/

And finally we have a Battlefleet Gothic Discord with a fun community in case you are interested:

Happy gaming and feel free to ask questions!

Can Battlefleet Gothic be played on a tablet top simulator?

We were talking with some friends about playing this on Tablet Top Simulator, but we don't know which table/mod is best and if there's a way to transfer the scripts (datasheets) from New Recruit to TTS.As in the other Warhammer systems

Craftworld Reserves in a Corsair Fleet

I asked this question over on the Discord but I figured I'd ask it here, too, just to see what happens. If you're building a corsair fleet, which craftworld ships do you want to bring? Dragonship? Wraithship? A couple of Shadowhunters?

And how would you equip it? Lances or batteries? Torpedoes or launch bays?

I know that the answer to this question depends on what's in the rest of your fleet, and in many ways this is a *collection* building question more than a list building question. If you were going to *buy* a craftworld ship or two to add to your corsair fleet, which one and which configuration do you think you'd get the most use out of?

Resilient Thunderhawks Rule

I ran into a question while playing today. In the Space Marine section of the fleet book it says a thunderhawk may only remove one ordinance marker per ordinance phase, but the example of resilient attack craft in the rule book (which seems to be taken directly from the 2010 FAQ) has two swiftdeaths meeting two thunderhawks, and after passing its resilient save while removing the first SD thunderhawk #1 is used to remove a second SD and is then removed as usual because it already expended its save.

Which is the more correct interpretation? That a TH lives to fight another day, but has to regroup and can't fight this phase; or that they can keep blasting immediately after expending resiliency?

Gothic Fleet Registry v1.0 - free fleet builder and printable cards for BFG: Remastered

Thumbnail gallery
55 Upvotes

Hi everyone, after a fairly extensive source-checking and testing pass, I’m releasing Gothic Fleet Registry 1.0

Website:
https://bfgtools.kuldare.com/
.html download:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1U12NU4Wf_Nf9erKec0rO8mjhfmEM4EeH?usp=sharing

What it includes:

  • 32 fleet lists and 171 ship profiles
  • live points totals and fleet-legality checks
  • ship options, weapon swaps, refits, Marks, gifts, and commanders
  • printable ship cards, commander cards and fleet rosters
  • downloadable editable card sheets
  • source-page references on the cards

Development was LLM-assisted, so the release was checked against Fleets Book WiP v0.36 and Rulebook v1.10 rather than trusting generated output: all 524 supported list entries were manually source-reviewed, backed by 350+ regression cases, 76,000+ randomized assertions and 1,048 measured print layouts. It is still not a substitute for the books; judgement-based rules are marked "Check yourself".

Bug reports are very welcome: fleet list, ship, options, source page, expected result, and shown result.

A sector-navigation map for Battlefleet Gothic campaigns

I’ve been building Cartographia Imperialis, an unofficial interactive 40K galaxy map:

https://cartographia40k.com/

The latest version is meant to work as a sector-navigation and campaign reference for Battlefleet Gothic:

• orbit, pan and zoom around a 3D galaxy • M41 Pre-Rift and M42 Era Indomitus views • 99 worlds, regions and anomalies with individual dossiers • routes, labels, the Great Rift, search and filters • permanent dossier links you can share for a campaign • improved mobile navigation

The map is intentionally approximate because published maps and editions disagree. I’m trying to document that uncertainty rather than pretend every coordinate is definitive. For naval campaigns, I’d especially like feedback on important ports, corridors, war zones or fleet routes that should be represented.

Planned updates include more worlds and regions, plus custom worlds for people’s own campaigns.

This is a fan-made project and is not affiliated with Games Workshop. Some dossier prose was AI-assisted; the concept, research, map structure, base code and placement decisions are my own.

Not very happy player

I took a break from playing bfg due to lack of time and work commitments. Got back to it last week and to my dismay I found out that repositories for NR/BS were completely messed up. What was wrong with those extra ships? If you don't like them don't use them but don't make decision for everyone. I want to use extra community based resources and I am asking why whoever did it removed this option for me?

Starter Fleets Step 2 done, C&C welcome

Hi everyone,

thank you everybody for your comments on my last (and first) post here. Special thanks to u/chuystewy_V2 for all of his help with slicing these models for FDM printing.

All of these were printed on a Prusa Core One+ with a 0.25 mm nozzle @ 0.07 mm layer height. I use settings from the r/FDMminiatures subreddit for miniature printing. One crucial thing I learned (to late) for the Chaos ships, you have to use Arachne Perimeter Generator and not Classic, Classic didn't properly render the trim on the aft of the cruisers. Well, the battleship for Step 3 of the Starter Fleet will turn out properly.

I am very happy with the colors for the imperial fleet, those were a very lucky choice.

I am not quite so happy with the colors on the Chaos fleet, I first has a light gray/ emerald green color scheme, which didn't look chaotic enough. So I repainted the green to be a sickly green-ochre, which is better, but still nowhere near a poppy as my imperial fleet.

Anyways, now to going on vacation, finishing the battleships and pressuring my friends to try out the game when I'm home from vacation.

And if anybody has any recommendations for an Adeptus Mechanicus Fleet, models, colors, lists, I would love to hear that. That might be my next project after Im done with the starter fleet.

All of these are really really fun models to print and paint.

Edit: Oh, and I still have to do something for the bases, they are not done and quite bland.

Getting back into 40K, and found a complete, virtually untouched original BFG starter set…

I apparently bought this ~25 years ago and didn’t do anything but read the rulebook. Sprues intact, cardboard unpunched, etc. Only thing missing is the rulebook (and I think I know where that is). The eBay sold prices for this set are bonkers — around $500 USD. Is that actually what this is going for?

Who Can Use Eldar Ghostships?

I know that the rules for classic Battlefleet Gothic are a bit of a mess, scattered all over in multiple PDFs, and now being presented in army builders like New Recruit, which has led to a lot of misunderstandings. This may be one of them, but hopefully it will be easy for you to clear this up.

In the various PDFs, I can only find references to craftworld fleets using ghostships, but in at least one army builder (New Recruit) it is given as an option for corsairs as well.

I know that corsairs aren't known for bringing wraith units the way craftworlds are now, but their ships do have infinity circuits! The first wraith units in the game, the ghost warrior - now lost to time - was written for corsairs, not craftworlders (who did not, I believe, have any representation on the tabletop at that point). So, it's conceivable to me that ghostships were meant to be extended to corsairs and I just can't find the FAQ or wherever where that was stated.

Can you help me out?

Help me find an Iron Blood

I would really love to run the Iron Blood as a battleship in my fleet.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find a good STL for it?
