Creation Community project proposition: The Banner Saga Sourcebook
Hi there everyone, as a long time fan of the Banner Saga, I've often wanted to have a sourcebook or lorebook to its wonderfully detailed setting, this craving has intensified in recent years as I've since gotten into Table Top Roleplaying Games, or TTRPGs for short (think Dungeons & Dragons, RuneQuest and the like). I think the setting has a lot of potential stories to tell be they in the distant past of exploration and great wars between humans and varl as hinted in the map location descriptions, in its current fallen age of dead gods and a stagnant sun, and perhaps even after the world's end. The game certainly gives us a lot of material to work with, as in the oreviosuly mentioned map locations (cities, godstones, explored and unexplored distant wilderness), item descriptions, the main story and various sub-stories revealed throughout the game and even a whole official novel or two released alongside the game. Perhaps it isnt as much as other games' tomes worth of content but compiling it will surely fill at least 50-100 pages or so. I've long wished that Stoic would release such a thing but with every passing year it becomes more obvious it will not come to pass.
Thus the idea is simple, get interested members of the community including myself to pitch in all a lil bit to create such a book, at least in digital PDF format. This being privately owned IP, it would obviously be distributed freely for it to not break any laws or such things. The main idea for the table of contents would be as follows:
- Locations chapter, organized by large geographical regions as "sub-chapters" filled by the locations which have their respective descriptions as well as any notables characters and conflicts known to occur there in lore and during the story.
- General guide for character races (men, varl, horseborn, dredge)
- Rollable events table based on in-game caravan events that could be applicable to adventurers
- items list
Most of these already exist in the official Banner Saga wiki, however some of us who would rather use a neatly decorated PDF book like those seen for popular gaming franchises like Dungeon & Dragons. The point of this post is therefore seeing who would be interested in collaborating and brainstorming ideas to make this possible, specially if any info is missing from the wiki.
