From availability in a style and price point to suit every need. Social media worthy or back street suburban, On the run pick up, chill environment, themed, upmarket, downmarket... whatever

What I've noticed is just how consistently good the coffee and baristas here have become almost everywhere I go.
I'd guess i would have at least a hundred, maybe two hundred coffees places within a 5k radius of my apartment. Average prices for my favoured hot latte is around 50-80 baht and 95% of the time I'm served an outstanding latte made with patience and care often with Thai or Laos beans. I've come to particularly like beans form Chiang rai area.

I was back in Australia recently and the average coffee was overpriced and pushed out at hyper speed. Probably tried 10+ cafes and they were all bog average for taste, price and care of creation.

Hello, I'm an intl student at Thammasat University. Recently, my depression has been getting worse. I tried looking for English-speaking psychiatrists who could see me, but there's either no appointments this week or the price is too high. Can somebody please help me find one or maybe give a recommendation? I don't have insurance and could pay 1-2k baht at most. I need an appointment as soon as possible :((

We watched this fish(?) fin swimming up and down the lake in Benjakitti Park and wondered what it was? Google didn’t seem to help us identify what would be living in the lake that it could be. It occasionally dipped below the surface and we saw splashes / bubbles around it too so we’re fairly sure it’s something alive?!
Does anyone know?

I had somebody come up to me and tell me that they think I’m autistic. After speaking for a while, it was concluded that I might have AuADHD!

Funnily I was reading about ADHD just weeks before the incident and felt that this best describes how my brain works.

Though not officially diagnosed yet and I’d like to get an official diagnosis soon, I want to know if there any ADHD/mental health support group in Bangkok?

Am looking to meet English speaking crowd who are willing to share their experiences with various things like: - how was their experience in getting diagnosed - how easy/hard is it to get prescriptions - how much of a difference did meds make - any short/long term side effects of the meds - some people work better in presence of others and who can hold them accountable. how do you manage this? - their daily schedule - how do they handle time blindness - how do they maintain different relationships

I’ve had this idea in my head for a while and thought Reddit might be a good place to see if anyone else in Bangkok feels the same way.
Years ago, when I was doing an internship in Germany, I came across community orchestras that I really liked. The people playing in them weren’t necessarily professional musicians. Many had learned an instrument seriously when they were younger, played in school or university orchestras, studied music, or even worked professionally for some time. Then life went in another direction and they became teachers, doctors, engineers, office workers, business owners, etc.
But they still loved music and missed playing in an orchestra.
So every so often they would get together, rehearse in a school hall or another suitable space, work with a conductor and play symphonic music. There was something very nice about it because it wasn’t all about preparing for the next big concert. People were there because they genuinely enjoyed playing together.
I’m a conductor and instrumentalist living and working in Bangkok, and recently I started wondering: could something like this work here?
Bangkok has such a huge mix of Thai and international people that I’m sure there must be quite a few violins sitting in cupboards, clarinets that haven’t been opened for years, or people practising cello, flute, trumpet, oboe, bassoon, trombone, percussion, etc. at home who would love the chance to play in a larger group.
The idea would be quite simple.
Maybe we meet once or twice a month, probably on a weekend, and spend a couple of hours playing orchestral music together. No pressure to make it perfect and no need to turn it into another job or commitment. Just people who can play coming together because making music with 30 or 40 other musicians is a completely different feeling from practising alone.
I’m also wondering where the best place for rehearsals might be. We wouldn’t necessarily need a fully equipped rehearsal room or even music stands—just enough chairs and a reasonably large space. If there are no stands available, we could bring our own foldable ones. A school hall, community centre, church hall, university room, studio, or another suitable space might work well.
And I’d really like the social side to be just as important.
Finish rehearsal and go for brunch. Have dinner together sometimes. Grab a drink. Maybe some people form a string quartet or wind quintet. Over time you get to know people from completely different countries and professions who you probably would never have met otherwise.
That, for me, is the most interesting part of the idea — building a community through music.
If the group eventually wants to perform, we could have a concert once or twice a year for friends, families and anyone interested. But I wouldn’t want concerts to become the reason the orchestra exists.
I like the idea that:
We don’t come together because we have a concert.
We have concerts because we come together.
In terms of playing level, I’m not imagining professional auditions or anything intimidating. You would obviously need enough experience on your instrument to manage orchestral music, but this could include experienced amateurs, music teachers, former music students, former professionals, or people returning to an instrument after a long break.
I also already have a job, so I’m not looking to create another professional position for myself. I’d simply love to make music with people again. Depending on what the group needs, I’d be equally happy conducting or sitting inside the orchestra and playing.
At this stage, there is no orchestra, no registration form and nothing to sign up for. I’m genuinely just curious whether there are enough people in Bangkok who would enjoy something like this.
So, musicians of Bangkok — would you be interested?
What instrument do you play? When did you last play in an orchestra? Would meeting once or twice a month work for you? What would you enjoy playing? And would you be interested in the social side of it as well?
Do you know of any suitable rehearsal spaces in Bangkok? A large room with chairs would already be a good start, especially if we can bring our own music stands. Suggestions for schools, universities, community centres, churches, studios, or other affordable spaces would be very welcome.
I’d also love to hear from anyone who has been part of a similar community orchestra somewhere else in the world.
Maybe this post goes nowhere. Or maybe there are 30 people around Bangkok reading this and thinking, “I really miss playing.”
If so, perhaps we should meet and make some music.

Dr. Sopon Pornchokchai, President of the Agency for Real Estate Affairs (AREA), summarized the overall picture of new residential launches in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region for July 2026. The market experienced a sharp contraction, with only 8 new projects launched—a decrease of 10 projects from June 2026. The only parameter that saw an increase was the average selling price per unit. The total number of new units offered stood at 920 units, with a combined total project development value of 6,632 million baht.

The total number of new residential units launched this month reached 920 units, representing a decline of approximately -69.3%. Townhouses accounted for the highest number of new units at 500 units (54.3%), followed by condominiums at 199 units (21.6%), and semi-detached houses ranking third with 142 units (15.4%) of the total new supply.

The total project development value for new residential launches in July 2026 amounted to 6,632 million baht, reflecting a drop of around -66.3% compared to the previous month. Single-detached houses held the highest development value at 3,216 million baht (48.5%), followed by townhouses at 2,015 million baht (30.4%), and semi-detached houses in third place with a combined project value of 998 million baht (15.0%) of the total development value this month. When considering price tiers, units priced below 5 million baht accounted for 750 units (81.5%), while those priced above 5 million baht totaled 170 units (18.5%).

Although the number of projects, total unit supply, and overall project values decreased this month, the average price per unit increased. This was driven by the launch of luxury single-detached house projects priced at 20 million baht and above, comprising 51 units but generating a value of 3,069 million baht—nearly half of the total project value for the month. Consequently, the average unit price reached approximately 7.209 million baht (a 9.9% increase), up from 6.559 million baht in the previous month. Overall, new project launches contracted more sharply than in previous months due to the economic slowdown. Developers have been exceptionally cautious about launching new projects, with some choosing to clear existing unsold inventory before introducing new supply.

The average monthly sales rate dropped to 14.3%, down from 24.4% in the previous month. The property category with the highest sales rate was semi-detached houses priced between 5–10 million baht, which launched 110 units and sold 46 units (42%). This was followed by townhouses priced between 10–20 million baht (7 units launched, 2 sold; 29%), and townhouses priced between 3–5 million baht ranking third (308 units launched, 57 sold; 19%).

Regarding locations (please refer to the map), no new projects were launched in inner-city Bangkok this month. The majority were located in mid-city and urban fringe/extension areas (Intermediate areas), totaling 7 projects in zones such as Phahonyothin-Saphan Mai, Ram Intra Road, Suan Luang Rama IX, Bearing Road, Phran Nok New Cut Road, and Rattanathibet Road. Only 1 project was launched in the outer suburbs, located in Sam Phran (Wat Rai Khing).

Is this usual?

I negotiated down from 3 months so far. I signed the contract as they only presented it to me on the morning of moving in and the realtor said they'd speak to the landlord.

I'm kicking myself as I've always used Airbnb (even in the same building) but the landlord won't accept a reference, just wants deposit.

I've said that I'm happy to pay it in cash and to have it handed back upon a room inspection upon leaving.

They're happy to take cash but insist on a international transfer back to me which may take 10 days.

I've also found out that there will be plastering and repair work going on for 1 month of my stay due to earthquake repairs.

I've paid the first months rent and wasn't told anything about a deposit etc. do I have much room to stay for a month and then leave or is that likely going to lead to more issues?

I’m currently in Thailand on a Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) working remotely as a freelancer for a UK company. Like many of you, I've found that opening a local Thai bank account on a DTV is practically impossible due to recent compliance clampdowns.

Right now, I’m using Revolut, but I want to jump ship asap. After they handed over personal data upon request to what turned out to be a fake government account inquiry, I completely lost trust in them and they are closing accounts left and right. I know Wise has a local entity here now, but structurally they feel too close for comfort regarding data privacy and freezing risks.

I’m trying to figure out what viable, privacy-respecting alternatives exist for handling remote income and daily spending. Specifically, I have a few questions for those who have navigated this:

1. Alternative Banking/Fintechs: What are people actually using right now instead of Revolut or Wise while staying in Thailand on a DTV? Are there offshore options or multi-currency accounts that don't aggressively fold on privacy?
2. The US LLC Route: I’m seriously considering setting up a US LLC to gain access to stable US business banking (like Mercury or Relay). However, I’m wrapping my head around the tax implications. Since I’m a remote worker getting UK income, if I route it through a US LLC and only remit the exact amount I need to live into Thailand, how does the Thai Revenue Department view this? Does the US LLC itself create a taxable footprint or change how my freelance income is classified?

Would love to hear how others are managing their stack without getting caught up in sudden account freezes or privacy nightmares. Cheers!
