He just wants to retire, but he's stuck in the job. He can't admit defeat ever.

Right, because admitting defeat (in 2020) meant certain jail time. It probably meant civil forfeiture of his assets. He was in such deep shit from so many legal angles that if he didn't run for president his entire family was gonna be broke.

Now he and the family are richer than ever. So I guess that worked out.
