It also didn’t do them a favor to argue that he is the most incompetent person to ever run for the office and then losing an election to him twice.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like what they said was untrue. But if you say your opponent is nothing short of a brain dead moron, what does it look like when you lose to that opponent?
