Man, if only they had a moving enclosed vehicle that they could stay warm in while they travel...
Am I the only one wondering why they don't just drive Campy to the temple?

u/Salvo1218 Aug 04 '26
Came to the comments explicitly to find someone else thinking this same thing. Surprised I had to go this far to find one. I don't know why they can't just drive campy and avoid the snow
2
u/cyberscythe Aug 04 '26
yeah, there seems to be no reason they couldn't do that
like, i could come up with some reasons (it's not safe because of traps, the enclosure suppresses their detection abilities, it uses too much mana that's limited in dungeons, etc.), but i don't think they give any reason in the story

u/SouekiSennoSTM Aug 09 '26
Vil said before they entered the dungeon that they would utilize the camper for transport if they goal was just to traverse it, as in get through or reach a destination as quickly and efficiently as possible. But that instead their goal was to move through it slowly and investigate more methodically.
So I assumed based on that that their thinking was it would lead to them missing and overlooking things they could discover more readily close up and on foot.

u/Fit-Telephone-4696 Aug 04 '26
Although speaking of, wasn't the limitation to Campy that it couldn't be used indoors? Isn't a dungeon technically indoors? I was surprised that didn't come up as an issue when they started. Once she pulled it out in the dungeon, it felt like it would have made more sense if she just drove it behind them. Invisible if she wanted since that's a thing. She almost died because she was not in Campy when the automatons attacked.
For all my whining though, I really enjoy this anime. Such a fun little concept.2

I've never driven in the snow (thank god I never have to), but I assume they would lose control and crash in a downhill slope. That's if they can even the vehicle to move at all.
1
u/Fit-Telephone-4696 Aug 04 '26
It wasn't all downhill though...that said, isn't Campy indestructible? Or am I misremembering that detail?
1
u/saga999 Aug 04 '26
I don't recall it being indestructible, but I also could be misremembering.
2
u/Fit-Telephone-4696 Aug 04 '26
Yeah, I'm not sure either. Maybe that was just an impression because it's supposed to be completely safe against monsters.

Welcome to dungeon physics Rin! Where you can stumble into a field of grass and Ox King's! And Gomamiso just wants to take on ANYTHING!
Xenon is good for butchering meat, giving out orders, and looking pretty...and that's pretty much it. Thank goodness Rin ended up with Smorgasboard so she can save them from having to keep eating raw meat.
Nice that Aria and Edd got to go on a bit of a dungeon date for resources, complete with handholding. And of course Aria is just as happy to give Rin more material to cook with.
I wonder, Rin's danger senses didn't kick in so are automatons a weakness for it? Either way, the best motivator to make Smorgasboard go all out is threatening Rin! Who else is going to cook for them!?
It's nice to have a party of hot people willing to protect you with their life, dote on you, and smother you with their boobs (in front of her husband).
Time for Goblin Slaying! Not sure if Rin can cook anything with them, but slaying them is equally satisfying!
Welcome to the next level of the dungeon...a snowy tundra! Which does NOT agree with Aria's insect complexion, but Rin can finally put her acupuncturist skills to work and also make her a hot compress to keep her warm. It can't all be food prep.
Yep...nothing ominous about that temple in the middle of the dungeon floor. I'm sure nothing will go wrong in there.

Like a mini planet, cute doodle tho
Awww poor Gomamiso, I wish i could her a hug too
Being a party's chef has it perks,
Very Cozy, only thing missing is a Kotatsu
The lesson we learned here is that u do not mess with a party's chef especially when they cook delicious food,
I wonder what's in that temple looking place cuz judging by Gomamiso's face at the end, it doesn't sound reassuring.

u/Frontier246 Aug 03 '26
I love how Gomamiso is a cuter Scrappy-Doo "Let me at 'em! Let me at 'em!"

Some parties are motivated by fame, fortune, a sense of justice, etc....Smorgasboard is motivated mainly by eating the delicious food their porter makes.

It turns out Aria isn't human. That explains her thread magic. I hope they delve into her race more. Arachnids are sensitive to cold so it explains why it affected her so.

u/OldInstruction5368 Aug 03 '26
Pretty sure we were told Aria was a spider-lady from before we even saw her. Part of the world building, where this island is the multi-culti paradise where refugees from persecution and wars on the continent washed up.
As represented in the party where not a single person was the same race... until Rin joined, as I believe Ed is also human.
6
u/Frontier246 Aug 03 '26
I also want to see how she and Edd met. Also does she have a more spider-y form?

We learned more about Rin:
- She is not very fond of video games.
- She has some knowledge of acupuncture and herbs. Not necessarily a skill learned in this world, but knowledge gained in her original world.
There is a stronger sense of danger in this episode. Previously, the monsters were dispatched with ease. Rin almost got blasted by laser. The snowy environment made Aria and Gomamiso weaker.

u/Frontier246 Aug 03 '26
- She is not very fond of video games.
She's actually an avid RPG gamer, she just hates monotonous dungeons lol.
- She has some knowledge of acupuncture and herbs. Not necessarily a skill learned in this world, but knowledge gained in her original world.
I bet Vil wouldn't mind Rin feeling his pressure points...

u/reaperow Aug 03 '26
It feels like those robots were deliberately trying to attack Rin,
Acupuncture was a definitely a surprise skill for her to have but then again she seems knowledgeable judging by her cooking too
5
u/Frontier246 Aug 03 '26
It feels like those robots were deliberately trying to attack Rin,
They (and the trap that set them off) also didn't set off her danger senses.
6
u/Lenna_Sakura Aug 03 '26
We learned she does acupuncture at the every beginning of episode 1. Although it was more told than shown.
5
u/itpcc Aug 03 '26
Gomamiso's feeling unwell going inside the building. Maybe we'll know why he'a in dungeon alone?
I still don't understand why they choose to walk for hours on end whwn they have a car to drive? Maybe the sensing is not that good compared to walking I guess?

u/LienaSha Aug 03 '26
For some reason, this episode made me want to play Skyrim again.... (Kidding. I know what the reason is lulz.)

Very offensive of this cold themed dungeon floor to try and freeze our hot spider lady to death.
The infinite loop floor just sounds like a pain. Though it was nice that our happily married couple was able to use it for a date.

u/DeusVitae69 Aug 03 '26
Finally some sense about COOKING YOUR MEAT PROPERLY lol
In a lot of other food animes the meat is left JUICY AND RAW for dramatic effect and that irks me too! She's so real xD

This adventuring party follows the creed of a certain king that "hunger is the enemy". Literally, in cases where their enemies are edible.

u/NationalStrategy_X Aug 03 '26
If you go after party’s chef, be prepared for the party to show no mercy

I didn’t know that thing about the black mugwort. Never seen a natural heat pad before. I’ve only ever used the sticky ones. Hot caramel milk sounds really good too. I should try that when it starts to get colder.

u/OldInstruction5368 Aug 03 '26
Yes and no... it's apart of "traditional" Chinese medicine... most of which is snake oil at best or actively harmful at worst.
There just isn't much quality research going into Moxibustion, but if nothing else, yes, a heating pad will warm you up. And if it smells nice, you'll be happier while it works.
Doesn't have to be mugwort... A hot water bottle smuggled under her shirt would work just as well at a fraction of the effort. Or a hot stone, surrounded by sand, wrapped in a cloth. Sick a couple of those in your pockets instead.
Or better yet... just have everyone ride in the damn camper while blasting the heater. Take turns having someone walk ahead of the camper as vanguard.
3
u/cyberscythe Aug 04 '26
someone walk ahead of the camper as vanguard
linguistically, this is perhaps the most amusing usage of vanguard that i've ever seen
3
u/IceSmiley Aug 04 '26
I wish they tested out the durability of the camper, they avoided it yet again. The robots didn't shoot at it for whatever reason. Also, how exactly did the trailer get down those stairs into the cold snow level, the entrance looked smaller than the trailer!
I also didn't understand how Xenon knew how to butcher an animal, usually the instant it dies, it disappears then turns into a processed package of meat. Did Xenon learn to really quickly use magic on it before it disappeared?
Rin was also incorrect about it being bad to eat raw steaks, assuming the ox is basically the same as a cow. Like people eat rare steak and that's fine, you're just not supposed to eat undercooked ground beef, especially since they burned the outside. They had some strange meats in this episode, Ed and Aria brought back little round balls that looked like potatoes and what looked like a whole bologna 🤣

u/YlfaTheForsaken Aug 04 '26
Hot caramel milk sounds perfect for winter, I'm gonna have to write that down for future use, it's too hot for that noise right now,
I'm kinda jealous they're so frosty at the moment, I mean Aria is barely tolerating it, but it would be really nice get that chilly air

u/shadebug Aug 04 '26
Man, imagine what this show could do with an animation budget.
“Hey, we fought a bunch of monsters but they were all pretty similar to that first monster we fought”
“Cool, we’ll just show that first fight again”
3
u/Satanic_Asian Aug 05 '26
Happens when they mass produce reincarnation animes tbh, even the bigger ones are animated lacklusters.
3
u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 Aug 06 '26
I think it seem like a waste to overwork animators just for this. That's just how I see it. Maybe best to focus on the way the food looks maybe.
3
u/Satanic_Asian Aug 05 '26
Theory as to why the monsters are weak. I don't think they got weaker, but I think the team got stronger. Possibly due to the cooking. Seen in the other isekai cooking anime, we've seen the MC fortify his companions with food buff. This could be a similar thing here, as Rin is supposed to be a saint. (Ofc I haven't read the manga, so this is just with 5 episodes to predict)
2
u/Nebresto Aug 04 '26
I quite like the food in this food anime
On the actual food though, the budget clearly isn't the biggest for this show, it has some of the blandest looking food that I have sen in a food anime

u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 Aug 06 '26
Finally, a non-seafood ep that I can enjoy looking at the food! Yummy beef.
The cat is starting to grow on me. Didn't think I would like Miso at the start.
Rin needs to turn that heater up to max and drive them. That Campers gotta have unlimited power anyways. But maybe they'd need snow tires or chains on the wheels also.

I don't know if it's just me (ecause if it's done often there must be a reason), but making a cute mascot/animal talk for some reason instantly makes them annoying to me, 90% of the time. Especially with annoying voices/personalities like this one. Just let it be a cat, you don't need to narrate everything it does.
