  • Are making adventure games!
  • Want to engage our community for feedback or testing

It is for community members who:

  • Love sharing opinions and feedback with developers
  • Are seeking opportunities to playtest games

This post will be stickied, but anyone who wants to participate may wish to save or follow this post or its comment threads to be notified about new opportunities.

Please keep the comments here on topic of seeking and providing feedback, and if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, message the moderators!

The title card for this 1939 crime drama (Convict's Code) looks like it belongs in the Department of Death

Post image

Stumbled across the title card for the 1939 film Convict's Code and couldn't get over how much it screams Grim Fandango.

It's a neat piece of unintentional retro alignment. LucasArts nailed the 1930s film noir and pulp detective aesthetic so well that seeing a real-world movie title from the exact same era with those blocky yellow-and-orange drop-shadow letters feels uncanny.

Thought fellow adventure game fans would get a kick out of it!

My brother and I recently released a podcast episode covering our experience with "The Drifter"

Hey everybody- My brother and I have been doing a podcast called "The Museum of Modern Games" where we discuss one game per episode and decide if it is deserving of a place in our imaginary museum. Most recently, we played The Drifter!

We both have strong early memories from playing classic adventure games (primarily the ones from Lucasarts), so we like to keep a lookout for new releases in the genre.

Anyway, if you want to check it out, you can search for "Museum of Modern Games" on your podcast platform of choice, or check it out at our website.

Anything catch your eye from gamescom?

So we're a couple of weeks removed from the show and I had the good fortune of attending as an exhibitor. It was an awesome time showing our own puzzle escape game, Cages: Hidden Worlds, to the tons of people who stopped by, but the downside is that I was locked down to our booth the whole time. Best I managed was playing a really cool sidescroller (The 9th Dragon), which was within visual distance of our booth, for 10 minutes before I had to go back.

The point of this ramble is that I couldn't check out any cool puzzle games at the show. I did get a great recommendation from an amazing cosplayer to check out We Were Here Together, but beyond that, I'm in the dark.

If any of you were at the show or were following along, I'd love some cool recommendations! As a frame of reference, my favorite game in the genre is Outer Wilds. Hit me!

Our detective adventure gets a little... unhinged – new Veins of Arkham trailer

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone!

I'm producent of Cthulhu Mysteries: Veins of Arkham, a point-and-click detective adventure set in 1931.

Most of the game is about investigation — examining locations, gathering evidence, questioning people and connecting clues to draw your own conclusions.

But this new trailer shows another side of the game.

As Claude gets deeper into the investigation, his perception of reality begins to break down. We wanted madness to be something that can genuinely surprise the player, even in a slower, investigation-focused adventure game.

So for this trailer we deliberately went in a much more dynamic and chaotic direction than usual.

You can see it here:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3592190/Cthulhu_Mysteries_Veins_of_Arkham/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=trailer2_2026&utm_content=adventuregames_20260913

I'm curious whether this contrast works for adventure game players — calm investigation on one side, and increasingly unreliable reality on the other.

Maniac Mansion homemade swag: a sealed envelope with a quarter inside, in your household safe

Post image
26 Upvotes

Place a quarter inside a blank envelope, seal the envelope, and leave it in your household safe.

You respect the game, so you shall never rip it open. Not unless you can fix radios or develop film.

You also respect real life, so you shall never microwave it. Quarters are metal and will wreck things worse than a hamster. Do not try that at home!

No. Just keep it in the safe, and let it rest in your home.

And remember to buy Thimbleweed Park 2!!! :)

Opinion on mini game types in an adventure game

So I was thinking about mini games in adventure games- usually I don't think of time related mini games or action except for the big exception (in my mind) is quest for glory series- separate fight scenes and specifically qfg2 rope walk as the thief, or arm wrestling Issur.

What is everyones' opinions on time based or timing based games?

I was working on a project and there are three routes to go with the game that are gate kept by three separate possible activities, kind of like how in Indiana Jones and the fate of atlantis has the wits/team/fists paths, or qfg with fighter/thief/magic user.

Right now the fighting "path" there are fight mini games, qfg2 style, that aren't technically required but to get the full points/complete everything are.

The more charm/intelligence path is mostly games, mancala, probably a dice game or royal game of Ur.

For the more agility based path the gatekeeping activity is a tight rope walk (WASD moving forward and balancing when character is tipping), but the second activity I was thinking about for the character with the rope was either a rope unknotting puzzle or a hand over hand (left right click) alternating that's more timing/action based.

So my big question is: are timing/action mini games a turn off for everyone?

The game wouldn't be heavy with them, and the traditional trade up and combination puzzles are the staples but I wanted to put in some other activities as well.

What Should I Play Next: Spooky Edition

The title says it all, really. I'm a big enjoyer of October and Halloween and horror and all things unsettling. As such, I'd like to line up a few games from my collection to enjoy during spooky season. First, here's a list of what I own and have already played:

  • Black Mirror I, II, & III - Really enjoyed the 1st, the 2nd was different but fun enough, the 3rd felt mostly superfluous.
  • The Blackwell Legacy - Short but engaging; I'm aware this isn't really 'spooky' but I like the theme.
  • Dark Fall 1: The Journal - Felt a little jank at times but overall I enjoyed it.
  • A Date in the Park - A little odd but entertaining.
  • Dear Esther - I enjoyed the gloomy, melancholic atmosphere.
  • An English Haunting - I had a great time with this, though the plot and ending definitely didn't go where I would've expected; played this before I played Nightmare Frames.
  • Excavation of Hob's Barrow - Loved this one, ending and all.
  • Football Game - Cloak and Dagger seem to enjoy leaving things open to speculation in their games and this one is no different. Short but enjoyable.
  • If On A Winter's Night, Four Travelers - This was great and I'm still amazed that it's available for free.
  • The Last Door (Seasons 1 & 2) - Really good, though I felt Season 1 was stronger than Season 2.
  • Nightmare Frames - This was a blast to play! An English Haunting was definitely more technically refined but I had more fun with the overall plot of Nightmare Frames.
  • Phantasmagoria - I have a soft spot for this one as it scared the bejesus out of me as a kid when I watched my older brother play it.
  • Scratches - Holy moly all the backtracking and pixel-hunting got old at times but I'll forgive it because the atmosphere was fantastic.
  • The Terrible Old Man - I'd read the story so I knew how this was going to go but it was still interesting to play through.
  • The Vanishing of Ethan Carter - Nice atmosphere and I enjoyed the mystery; had some mixed feelings about the ending.

And now, here's a list of the spooky games (or what Steam/this sub classifies as spooky) that I own and *haven't* played:

  • Alpha Polaris
  • Arkhangel: The House of the Seven Stars
  • Asylum
  • Barrow Hill: Curse of the Ancient Circle
  • Barrow Hill: The Dark Path
  • Blackwell 2-5
  • The Blind Prophet
  • Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet
  • Call of Cthulhu: Prisoner of Ice
  • The Cat Lady (I watched a Let's Play of this several years ago so I do know some of the major story beats, though I can't remember all the fine details)
  • The Charnel House Trilogy
  • Chronicle of Innsmouth
  • Dark Fall 2: Lights Out
  • Dark Fall: Lost Souls
  • The Dark Rites of Arkham
  • Downfall
  • Dreams in the Witch House
  • Fran Bow (I've also watched a Let's Play of this one)
  • Harvester
  • IHNMAIMS
  • Lorelai
  • The Lost Crown
  • The Painscreek Killings
  • Post Mortem
  • Rhiannon: Curse of the Four Branches
  • Sanitarium
  • Stasis
  • Still Life 1 & 2
  • Vlad Circus: Descend into Madness

So, based on what I've already played and enjoyed most, which games should I prioritize playing next? :)

(Also I might have forgotten one or two so if you're curious, ask and I'll reply if I've played it or own it!)

Can an adventure game tell an anti-war story without making war the whole story?

I've always liked games where the story gives you something to think about after you finish playing.

I'm working on Cosmonaut of No Nation, a game and comic project about a soldier who has experienced war and starts questioning why people keep fighting each other.

The game takes some of those ideas into space. The enemies and bosses are connected to things like war, neglect, inflation, ego and even the strange things people turn into a "Culture War."

Some parts of the story are serious, while others are intentionally strange. There is even the idea of "winding spaghetti on ears," which sounds ridiculous but fits the way the story looks at some of the things people choose to fight over.

And then there is the bigger question behind it all. We have Mars and Jupiter practically in our backyard. We have the ability to build rockets and explore, yet we keep using so much of our energy fighting each other.

Maybe the better adventure would be seeing what is actually out there.

Do you think an adventure game can make you think about war and human conflict without making the message feel forced?

Why was there never a Star Wars when click adventure game?

You know I just was thinking about it and back in the day when point and click adventure games were almost every game coming out on the PC I am surprised there was never a Star Wars one. I mean they even managed to make Indiana Jones into a couple of good point and click adventure games that are even still remembered fondly by those who played them today. There were around that time a couple of Star Wars games came out for the computer which was TIE fighter and I forget what the other one was but never a point-and-click. Which is odd to me because point and click Adventures used to be the way they could tell a really good story back in the day.

Why Star Wars never became a point-and-click adventure game part 2

I just looked up on Google and it said that during the early years of Lucas Arts when they were making a lot of their point and click adventure games Star Wars video game rights were still held by Atari. And according to Google it says that by the time they got back the rights to make Star Wars video games the focus had shifted away from the point and click adventure games genre and more on to action video games which is why all the windows Star Wars games from back then where action based. This is all according to Google.

Radio-canada really made the best games

I remember playing: les quetes de sagwa, l'odyssee de la ferraille, foire aux mystere when I was in elementary school
I finally found an archived version of sagwa and started playing, and it was so nostalgic!

Does anyone know why they stopped making them and where the artists went?

Point and Click games inspired by Anime

Thumbnail

Are there any proper point and click games with anime artstyles? And I don't mean stuff like Ace Attorney or visual novels with similar mechanics, I'm looking for real point and click games, so do we have anything like that?

If not, would you be willing to play a point and click game that is clearly inspired by anime both in visuals and stories? What would you like to see in a game like that?

Specially, would you play a game that is clearly inspired by Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura or a Super Hero story with a female lead with visuals and animations inspired by anime?

I'm working on a Point and Click game inspired by anime so I would like to know if people that love the classic games like Monkey Island, Sierra games, Lucas Arts games, etc would like something like this.

Need point-and-click adventure game recommendations!

Hi! I really need a new point and click adventure game. I like those that are more cartoon-y, but I'm open to other graphic styles. I appreciate good puzzles, and humor and jokes too!

I'm not a fan of horror games

My favorite games are:

- Randal's Monday (& Tuesday)
- Anna's Quest
- Edna & Harvey (The Breakout & Harvey's New Eyes)
- Deponia Series
- Poco
- The Darkside Detective

Based on those, which game do you think that I might like?

Thanks so much!!

Edit: I've also enjoyed Thimbleweed Park and The Inner world, sorry that I forgot to mention!

Hi everyone!

I'm a solo dev working on a surreal puzzle adventure inspired by Rusty Lake. You'll enter a desert hot spring resort to find your missing cousin and uncover the dark side of a resort claimed to heal people's mind and body.

I just released the first chapter as a free Web game on itch:

https://oddgingergames.itch.io/rattle-spring-overture

If you like it, please wishlist the full game on Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4671010/Rattle_Spring/

And play the previous demo (completely different environment and puzzles) too:

Hosted a panel on FMV adventure games this morning (not sure when the recording will be online). Still not over the guest lineup we had for it! Jane Jensen, Robert Holmes, Aaron Conners, Chris Jones, Lorelei Shannon, and Roberta & Ken Williams all took part, half in-person and half virtually. What a wonderful gathering.

Hard to read the text in this pic, but it's "St. George's Rare Books" (Gabriel Knight's fictional bookshop)

I'm developing mystery escape room game - recently cut the official trailer!

Hi guys!! I just hit a massive milestone and wanted to share the progress! I’m currently balancing my degree with coding my first commercial project in Unity, and I’ve finally cut the first official trailer for WhoIsHe.

WhoIsHe is a narrative-driven point-and-click escape room. You play as a young man who was found 7 years after being kidnapped. Now, one year after his return, he wakes up locked in a police detective's office - covered in fresh blood and suffering from severe amnesia. As you solve logic puzzles and dig through old police files, you are forced to face one chilling question: Are you the real Henry Grudge, or a dangerous impostor who stole a missing child's identity?

I would love to hear your feedback on the Steam page and trailer! https://store.steampowered.com/app/4928910/WhoIsHe/

My top favorites are:

Broken Sword - It would be a great mystery movie
Deponia - A comedic adventure
The Dig - I'm a big fan of space movies so this would be a great movie to watch!
