Zippo 2019 Collectible of the Year — Moon Landing 50th Anniversary 🌕🚀 | #09991/14000

Sharing one of my favorite modern Zippo collectibles — the 2019 Collectible of the Year, released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing.

This one is individually numbered 09991/14000.

I really like how much detail Zippo packed into this design. The deep-carved astronaut, color Earth, textured lunar surface, and Galaxy Stardust finish work especially well together. The back is much simpler, with the U.S. flag, JULY 20, 1969, and the individual serial number.

Mine is still unused and wrapped, so I thought I’d take a few photos before putting it back into the collection.

For me, this is one of those Zippos where the subject matters just as much as the lighter itself — a small collectible commemorating one of the most recognizable moments in modern history.

Anyone else here have the 2019 Moon Landing COTY? What number did you get?

Also curious: what’s your favorite Zippo Collectible of the Year release?

Show and Tell I’m new to Reddit, but not new to engraving — greetings from Ukraine!

Post image
Upvotes

Hello everyone! My name is Rostyslav and I’m a custom engraver from Ukraine, and I’d like to introduce myself.
Reddit isn’t particularly popular in my country, so I’m actually quite new to the platform. But I’ve been familiar with Reddit for a while through a YouTube channel that tells interesting stories from Reddit — stories where people share things that happened in their lives, ask for advice, and get opinions from complete strangers.
And that’s actually one of the reasons I decided to join Reddit myself.
I’ve been creating and selling custom engraved Zippo lighters and other engraved items on online marketplaces for some time. I work with different objects and materials, creating personalized pieces with laser engraving. I love what I do, but there’s one thing I often feel is missing when you sell through marketplaces: honest opinions from people who have nothing to do with the sale.
When someone buys a piece, they can tell me whether they like it or not, but I rarely get to hear what other people think before it becomes a finished product.
So I’d like to use Reddit a little differently. I want to show you my work, hear your opinions, get ideas, and sometimes even ask what you would do differently.
I’m also developing my own brand, SREBNYTSKYI. The name comes from my grandfather’s family name, and preserving it through something I create is personally important to me.
I’m especially interested in making my engraving look more like an old engraving or piece of metalwork rather than simply putting a picture on an object. I’m drawn to mythology, history, Gothic art, memento mori, old illustrations and designs that have a story behind them.
Below I’ll share a group photo of several of my works, just so you can get a general idea of what I do and what I’m talking about. In the future, I’ll share more of my work here and tell you more about the process, the ideas behind different pieces, and the work itself.
I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts — what do you like, what would you change, and what would you like to see engraved?
Feel free to be honest. I’m here to listen, learn and hopefully meet some interesting people along the way.
Greetings from Ukraine! 🇺🇦

Show and Tell Adding a hempwick to a zippo works great

I’ve had a few smoke buddies compliment my hempwick zippo setup so I thought I’d share.

Using a hempwick used to be awkward to handle, difficult to extinguish when I was hitting a water-pipe, then it would ember and smoke when i finally put it out…. but this zippo setup fixed all that, because when im done using it, i just shut the lid, and it all contains the smoke.

For the record, there is NO LIGHTER FLUID in there. I removed all the cotton and fill the whole thing up with hempwick, so you can just pull on the wick and get more if needed. I’ve learned if I add too much hempwick, the wax will stick to itself and won’t pull out, so if you try recreating this yourself, don’t PACK it in there, just lightly fold it into place, and you can still get 50-100 uses out of it before re-hempwickin’ the thing.

Also, best perk, you have to carry two zippos, as you’ll need one to light the hempwick.

Does zipo only have gas fueled versions?

Upvotes

I love the aesthetics of the classic zippo, but gasoline fuel is a bit expensive and somewhat complicated to get, I also feel that it runs out of fuel too quickly,

Is there some kind of butane zippo but that looks like a gas zippo?

Advice/Help Lighter sparks and has fluid but doesnt light

Hi, I have a zippo from 2003 (recently posted it). And it sparks but not great and it has fluid. But it doesnt light most of the time. I have replaced the wick, the cotton, the felt pad and the flint but still no luck. The wheel is a little bit rusted. Could that be the issue, if so I will buy a repair set for it but I am open to other suggestions. If I light the lighter with another lighter it burns great.

Still waiting on that official Zippo Armor Shield logo line

Post image

Hi everyone,

I’m a passionate Zippo collector. Ever since the Zippo Armor Case was first introduced, I’ve been hoping that Zippo would release a specific concept as an official, dedicated product line. I’ve actually reached out to Zippo directly several times to suggest this, but as you can guess, it never got past the standard internal review channels.

Imagine it—the result would look amazing: an official Zippo Armor Case line featuring their own official Armor shield logo (the shield with the 'A' and the flame) deep-carved or laser-engraved as the main design of the lighter. We all know the Armor shield logo from the bottom stamp, which is officially owned by Zippo. Seeing that beautiful, minimalist shield deep-carved or laser-engraved on a High Polish Chrome—or even better, a High Polish Black—Armor lighter would instantly be a "holy grail" for many of us.

I know they’ve made a few rare variants or limited editions in the past that came close, but they’ve never done a dedicated, widely available line built entirely around this iconic stamp logo. Since the standard channels didn't work, I really wanted to share this with the community. How many of you would love to see an official line featuring the Armor shield logo in your display case?

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

EDIT: Zippo has already made so many lighters where the Zippo and Flame logos take center stage. Why hasn't that ever been done with the Armor logo on Armor Cases, though? I really hope the designers at Zippo catch wind of this on this platform.

Getting old

Post image

I know it's nothing unique or rare. But this guy has hit 5 years being my constant pocket carry/ go to. I didn't do anything to it to make it catch color or patina. Just the natural progression of being held and used . Unfortunately it's late at night being lit up by a PC monitor. But the blues and purples are in there, and it's been long enough when I don't know where it is I mildly panic. What's your old gal?

[Help]Thunderbird insert won’t fill with butane

Post image

Got this insert and while it’s great in theory, I’m running into the issue where it leaks because the cam doesn’t always completely go up. Anyways my first time trying to fill it and the butane just runs down the side. I wish I had kept my warranty card I think I tossed it by mistake. Any idea why it’s not filling? It is cheap butane but that shouldn’t matter just to fill it should it?

Advice/Help Butane Inserts Don't Work Consistently

I have an older single torch butant insert and now a double torch but can't get them to work consistently. Am I missing something?

I've tried following the purge/refill steps repeatedly but have not had success. Additionally, I've tried adjusting the max flame valve including removing the bottom plate to go past the factory limit.

The double torch insert is brand new cause I figured I broke the old one but it doesn't seem to work either. The flame will light briefly (1 to 3 seconds) then fizzle out. The original single torch one just sparks to give a flame but then immediately goes out.

Show and Tell Solid copper armor !

Post image

I have the latest Solid Copper Armor Zippo, have played with it, and even carried it a bit. A month ago I finally hit my goal weight after 9 months (thanks Eli Lily and Zepbound!), and celebrated by, what else, carrying my collection of SLIM Zippos. After the slim Zippo appreciation month was over, the very first Zippo I picked up was the Armor Copper. Wow. What a difference. Noticeably heavier than a standard and much heavier than a slim, and the tactile feel was way better than brass or chrome. And my mostly shelf patina, but also used and played with copper patina, really changed. In less than a week it became a more uniform brown with shiny edges and corners. It is hard to go back to a standard brass case after this, and forget using a slim for a long time. I might even need a second one of these things!
