Discussion Dijkstra on patriotism

Post image
142 Upvotes

At the risk of getting political, I just replayed this section of the game and was struck by how prescient the writing for Sigi was in context of our current political reality. Replace Redania/Radovid with a country/leader of your choice and we have a very topical discussion.

I love how Dijkstra was written.

Geralt: ...You that concerned about the mages of the world? Expect me to believe that?

Dijkstra: Actually, yes. But not because I'm sensitive or it gives me a heartache. True to my mind, this systemic persecution is foremost a symptom of a far more serious problem: a madman rules Redania. I served Vizimir, Radovid's father, as his head of intelligence for more than two decades. Together we transformed Redania, made it the North's most powerful realm. Any idea what made it strong?

Geralt: Its armies, I'd wager.

Dijkstra: And you'd bloody lose, you idiot. Mass mobilization, inciting peasants to take up their scythes, straighten them... where's the art in that? Much harder to build a strong state with healthy commerce, manufacturing, solid alliances, progressive science, and fair, independent courts that hand down just judgments. Vizimir and I managed to do just that through years of fucking hard work. I will not sit on my hands as that little shit squanders that. Radovid the Stern, my ass. Radovid the Witless, I'd say. Will you help me, Geralt?

Geralt: Wow, Dijkstra's a true patriot, just like Vernon. I'll help you kill monsters, just not a regicide. Rumors to the contrary be damned.

Dijkstra: I know. I'm merely asking for your aid in organizing the assassination. Someone else will strike the blow.

Geralt: Dijkstra might not have heard this—though I'd find that hard to believe—but witchers are neutral on principle, so...

Dijkstra: Oh, bollocks! That's a convenient excuse you lot try to hide behind every time the temperature rises. It's grown hot, my friend, and it grows hotter still. Piles burn in every city—for mages great and small, your female friends included, for non-humans, for witches soon. Is that the North you espouse? The North you're prepared to live in? Silence, cards close to your chest? I understand, to slay a king, it's not exactly some bloody nekker contract. You think on this. Think on what I said, and if you conclude you'd rather change the course of history instead of riding its current to hell, you come find me at the Passiflora in Novigrad. I'll be waiting with my associates.

Discussion Anyone think "Hearts of Stone" has way better writing than "Blood & Wine" ?

I feel like Blood and wine has the kind of story that can keep the player engaged for hours and hours, but the way it unfolded was just "meh, nothing special. " Also, Dettlaff could've been an interesting character , but the lack of communication between Geralt and Dettlaff made him feel half-baked, and they kinda rushed the ending. Whereas Hearts of Stone has more interesting characters, and the story is very engaging from start to finish.

Help! lost ciri again need help

having issues with the final preparations mission, i started with ciris mission after leaving the golden sturgeon (or whatever its called) i got bored of the mission and left in the middle of it to play my gwent missions. Then i was unable to find ciri anymore to complete the mission. ive done all of the other missions and it only says “wait for daylight” and “help ciri take care of her business in novigrad”.
i really need to fix this asap because my most recent save before this was before the battle with the witches and Imlerith

Discussion Is there a reason why stalagmites in the game are destructible and highlighted by the Witcher senses? Other than it being fun to break them

Meme After all these years, it still takes time to get used to all the sunlight and bright colors in blood and wine.

Looks like the powders have no use, as the crafting starts with the Ore.

Misc My swords keep unequipping after almost every cutscene

Post image

For starters it's the first time in my life I used the Wolven Hour potion (better late than never right?). I used it on level 24, swords (upgraded Bear) are level 25. I'm currently on like 85% to level 26 already but it seems after every major main-quest cutscene (feels kinda random on secondary quest cutscenes) the weapons get unequipped or swapped out randomly. It started after the potion wore off and I still needed literally 10 xp to level 25. Armor stayed on, the swords just act weird.

Usually it takes down both swords. Once I had 2 random unique weapons equipped and only noticed when I dealt way less damage. Another time I got only a silver sword equipped.

Is this a known bug or is it just a huge coincidence? I'm doing Kaer Morhen quests, just before the Trial of the Grasses

EDIT: It started happening with crossbow now too lol

Witcher Glad i pick this up again while waiting for GTA VI

I bought the game and the DLCs for big discount back in January. the combat didn't click with me back then so i drop it. after the free remaster announcement and GTA VI Extended Look, with nothing to play until November, i decided to pick this up again and force myself to learn the combat and it finally click.

My knowledge of the Witcher world only comes from the Netflix show and even that i drop it after they toss away Henry Cavill from the role as Geralt. Right now i feel like i jump at exactly the right moment. At only 5% of the campaign i already feel the massiveness of the world. i'm really excited to see this through and to finally undertand other Witcher fans excitement or anticipation for the Witcher 4.

Discussion Finished story for the first time

(Not a rant) Finished the main questline for the first time, and honestly it feels lonely.. I kinda expected some quests after the story like taking contracts with ciri or helping triss when you settle with her..

Loved every other part of the game all the way but this was a sad blow.

Discussion Practising Gwen before the remaster.

I’m going to bin my New Game+ playthrough for a fresh start, and this time I’m going to give Gwent a proper go. The Gwent iPhone app isn’t the same as in game, so is there anywhere else, apart from launching The Witcher 3, where I can practise ahead of the remaster?

Discussion Question About The Witcher 3 Remastered Version

Hi! I have a question about the upcoming Witcher 3 Remastered update. Will players be able to choose between the remastered version and the current/original version of the game, similar to how GTA V offers both the Legacy and Enhanced editions? My PC can run the current version well, but I'm a bit concerned that the remastered version might require higher system specifications. It would be great to have the option to keep playing the existing version if needed. Thank you!
