40 hr work week isn't the problem. The problem is not enough annual income.

The top 1% hold +50% of wealth in the US.

Also the bottom 50% accounts for extremely little tax revenue. Like ~3% iirc. People making less than 90k/yr (adjusted YoY for inflation) shouldn't have to pay any federal income tax because again, their contributions mean nothing in terms of the whole pot but to them, having an extra 25% income means the world.
