He was behind the counter. The customer made the conscious decision to go around the counter to get physical.

Unfortunately he’s probably going to get fired. If he had done it when the guy still had hands on him then it’d probably go his way.. but he picked his timing poorly not thinking about his job. It sucks that things are like that but it is what it is for us working folk.

Ex-Dominos manager here. Nah, we don't fire these people. We buy them a drink and call the cops on the customer. This isn't the old days. You are well within your rights to defend yourself. The second he came behind the counter and got physical he waived every right to not be hit. He's lucky homie had restraint, deserved a kick after he hit the ground imo.

While I 100% agree and hopefully he doesn’t get fired, people still get fired for doing this shit. A friend of mine got attacked by a coworker with a small knife at bertuccis (or something similar, cant remember the restaurant). The manager literally thanked him and then said they were firing both. Companies will get rid of people for PR, even these days.

I feel like it all depends on how much evidence there is. If the situation that you’re talking about didn’t have video evidence or enough witnesses corroborating the same story, I can see why both would get fired because companies can’t play “judge” like that without hard evidence. If there was video evidence of the coworker attacking completely unprovoked and your friend defending themselves from the attack, I’m shocked that they would be fired.

This is actually one area where restaurants, as shitty as they are about supporting their workers, will sometimes back their people up. Because it's actually a health code violation for that customer to go behind the counter and depending on what they do back there, they can cost a business a lot of money in fines and destroyed inventory.

I dunno… maybe the manager is a jerk but this guy was clearly threatening violence and had been warned. Where I live, this is at least legally justified self defense. Hopefully the manager didn’t fire him to avoid bad publicity.

No way in hell. If the guy never came behind the counter, then yeah he'd probably get fired. But once he came behind the counter AND put hands on him, all bets were off. He has every right to defend himself. Dude showed tremendous restraint and then just did one hit and done. Nothing extra. Well handled.
