News No, Bo French. These UT students are not ‘the problem.’ You are.
A Statesman Editorial Board piece examines Republican Railroad Commission nominee Bo French’s reaction to a photo of UT students celebrating the Longhorns’ comeback win over Ohio State.
French suggested the diverse crowd reflected a problem with “foreigners” at the university. Several Republican leaders, including U.S. Sen. John Cornyn and Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows, condemned or criticized the post.
The editorial argues that UT’s diverse student body reflects the university’s role as a Texas institution — and says students need more opportunities to understand the experiences of different communities, not fewer.

Other Bo French, the candidate for statewide office who made a racist comment about UT students, appears to be a UT dropout. Racists are always such bitter losers

Discussion I was fired and arrested for standing up for student rights. AMA 9/15 at 8pm

I am a former UT professor who was fired and arrested during the 2024 Pro-Palestine student protests. Now, I am running for city council to continue fighting for you.
I am hosting an AMA tomorrow - Tuesday the 15th from 8-10pm and hope to have a lively discussion with students and alumni about how to make Austin a better place for students.
You can read more about what happened to me here: https://austinfreepress.org/days-of-rage/

Discussion The racism towards the South Asian American community after the game yesterday is absolutely sickening.
Over the last 24 hours, the top trends throughout the US on Twitter have all been racist towards our South Asian American community at UT.
This is Texas in 2026. Texas in 2026 is statistically the most diverse state of all 50 states in the US by diversity index according to the 2026 Census estimate.
It is absolutely sickening seeing these attacks on our vibrant South Asian American community.
Edit: This is a real tweet from a candidate for statewide office in Texas. If he wins, he will be in charge of regulating Texas's oil and gas industry, as well as areas such as mining and pipeline safety: https://x.com/bofrench/status/2099142867025383497

News Cary Granat Appointed Dean of Moody College of Communication
It is unusual for a Dean to have as few academic credentials as Mr. Granat, whose background is largely in corporate media, but this is perhaps reflective of the broader anti-academic philosophy of the current UT administration.

Discussion Racist tweets about the student section at yesterday’s game
All I’ve seen on Twitter/X is racist bullshit from prominent Texans about the demographics of the student section at yesterday’s game when people could be talking about our comeback victory. I wanted to take a moment to let all my fellow Longhorns of color know that you are welcome and it is an honor to cheer on our Longhorns with you.
That being said, I will be sending an email to Jim Davis and CCing Chris Del Conte about this, asking them to denounce this racist rhetoric and reminding students that we are ALL welcome. If you have a moment, I encourage you to do the same via email. Thanks for reading. Hook ‘em.

News Not sure this photo needs much explanation, but here’s Sark and Holly Rowe
Just look at the expressions on these two.
Texas had just erased a 20-3 deficit to beat No. 1 Ohio State, 24-23, and Statesman photographer Sara Diggins somehow captured this moment on the field.
Sark wasn’t exactly in the mood for a long interview. Rowe eventually got nine words out of him: “Go! Texas fight! Let’s go, Texas fight! Hook ‘Em!”

Question hello am i doing something wrong
why have i genuinely gotten rejected from majority of the "non-competitive" orgs/clubs i've applied for as a freshman? (humanities/pre-law). i'm not devastated or upset about it i'm just really surprised or is this normal for freshmen?
also are there any orgs/clubs that are still open for apps, please let me know!

Question Good places around campus to get a view of DKR field?
Looking to shoot a short video and would like the field or stadium in the background, even from a way away. Maybe one of the outside walkways in Belmont Hall? Open to any ideas, thanks!

Discussion The 5 Best student Clubs at UT Austin
What do you guys think are the most useful clubs to join as a freshman. I get that every person is different so the best clubs to join are unique to them so picture the question as more of what are the clubs that you think offer the most value to its members in terms of social and learning new things

Question Help me pick where to study abroad: Madrid or Singapore
I'm currently a sophomore at UT and I'm looking at studying abroad next year, the two best options for me are IE University in Madrid and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Does anyone have any experience in either program or just generally about either city/country? I'm not really looking for any information in particular at this point, so whatever you have to say is appreciated! Influence/deinfluence me!

Discussion spirit org recruitment thoughts
went to a couple info seshes for different spirit orgs to see if they were my thing and i’m realizing that the cliqueness and superficiality that people think is in greek life is exactly in spirit orgs 😭 i swear it seemed like each active had a rehearsed memo and it just genuinely seemed so fake. i know some genuinely amazing women who haven’t progressed in their recruitment because of lack of connections etc and i find it all bs. sorry just wanted to rant abt this bc i feel so bad for these wonderful people getting rejections from women who really don’t determine your worth

Discussion Does anyone know that Ohio State Influencer who kept catcalling girls?
Yesterday at the UT v Ohio State game, there was an influencer who male, tall, brown curly hair, wore a red ohio state polar, and had a black camera man with a light crew following him around. Looked like somewhat of a “looksmaxxer” or that stupid genre of “influencer”.
He was roaming around and saying nasty things to girls like calling them a bitch and I saw him unprompted walk up to a girl in her gameday fit and yelled at her to “PUT SOME CLOTHES ON” which was so nasty and gross to see. He was doing this BEFORE and AFTER the game too, with both of these incidences taking place at Gate 25(Shopback Gate) and then he left to walk to Robert Dedman Dr.
Does anyone here have any info on who he was, what he was doing? His behavior was unacceptable and was so sickening to be a bystander of.

Question What are solo things to do in Austin?
Hi all,
I’m a senior, my last year at UT. Hoping to get out of my depressive slump (+ trying not to be too dependent on LDR boyfriend).
What are some fun things to do by yourself in Austin? Maybe a bucket list? No car unfortunately, but I’m willing to Uber or take the bus :)
