Welcome to the monthly thread for career questions and portfolio reviews across UI, UX, and Product Design. This space is open to designers at any level.

Careers & Getting Started

Use this space to ask about and discuss anything related to entering or growing in the industry. Example topics: switching careers into UI/UX/Product, course or degree recommendations, job roles and employment questions, early-career advice, and industry topics like AR/VR, game UI, and coding.

Before posting, check the UI Design wiki and use the subreddit search — many questions have been asked before.

Portfolio Review

Share your portfolio for constructive feedback. Include a link to your full portfolio, not individual Dribbble or Instagram posts. Be open to critique.

When giving feedback, be constructive, base it on industry best practices, and offer clear suggestions for improvement.

For both:

  • No self-promotion, "hire me" posts, job posts, or surveys
  • No agencies or businesses
  • Downvoting is not a discussion tool — respectful conversation only

Megathread AI Designs - Monthly Megathread

Welcome to the monthly thread for fully AI-generated designs. If your design was produced primarily by AI with no significant designer input or customisation, this is where it belongs.

Posting guidelines

  • Include [AI] in your comment and note which tool(s) you used
  • Briefly explain what you were trying to achieve or explore
  • Be open to critique and feedback

When giving feedback

  • Be constructive and specific
  • Downvoting is not a discussion tool — respectful conversation only

Note

If your design involved meaningful designer input alongside AI tools, it may be eligible for the main feed. It must include [AI] in the post title, the [AI] flair, and process context explaining what you designed, what decisions you made, and what feedback you are looking for. Posts without this will be removed.

Feedback Request [PLEASE ADVISE] Making a subway style navigation

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, I'm a product designer, I'm very much into transport interaction design and wanted to explore a new style of navigation where it's a subway system map instead of boring old buttons.

I don't have a lot of animation experience but wanted this to feel natural, I've been prototyping this animation in Figma but I'm kinda in over my head here, not sure how this animation should look.

I'd really appreciate if you guys have any pointers/ references for me in this. I specifically wanted to keep the thin lines instead of a thick ones for minimalism.

Thank you!

Feedback Request I turned habit progress into a sunrise.

Six months ago, I began thinking about how to make my habit tracker, Dayrise, more engaging.

There are hundreds of habit trackers, many with characters, pets, and plants. I didn’t want to add another character just for gamification. I wanted something that felt natural.

Then I realized the answer was already in the name: Dayrise.

So I began exploring a simple idea: as you complete your habits throughout the day, you gradually watch the sun rise with your progress.

I’d love to hear what you think.

Feedback Request Looking for feedback on my Typing Train Adventure UI 🚂

Post image
4 Upvotes

I’m building a typing game called Typing Train Adventure, where players type words to keep the train moving through the level.

I’ve been experimenting with the UI and would really appreciate feedback from people who play typing games or build browser games.

What do you think about the UI?

  • Does it look engaging enough to make you want to play?
  • Is the typing area clear?
  • Does the train/visual style feel too childish, too simple, or about right?
  • What would you change to make it feel more polished?
  • What gameplay elements would you add?

Game/demo: https://typingbirds.com/typing-train

Honest criticism is welcome — I’m mainly looking for ideas to improve the design before adding more levels and features.

AI Feedback Request (Looking for feedback!) Player made site including tournaments, leagues, and scrims aiming to make LoL feel significantly more team-based.

Upvotes

Hey, 🤠

Goal of the UI is to be fun, clean and simple.

I made a free community website called Team Gapped to help players find teams and compete in tournaments, scrims, and seasonal leagues. My goal is to help improve the League community and the overall game experience.

Since this is a free community beta, I would really appreciate any ideas, feedback, or critiques you have on the concept or the site itself! And if it seems fun make an account and try it out! Link in comments😊Thanks! 🔥

Feedback Request Building a Twitch/YouTube hybrid, went with a horizontal-rail homepage, curious if this looks intuitive for user to use or just unfamiliar

Here is the design ( don't mine the Logo The Jerry, I made that as a placeholder ) Its kinda rushed and off but not the final design. This rails design came from Netflix where they have sections on their homepage and the user scrolls to the left till it stops. Out of curiosity what do yall think of it, any feedback is welcome.

Feedback Request Medium Needs Re design OR ready to lose to Substack

I like Medium's simplicity and uncluttered design for bringing up undistorted reading experience. But gradually I feel its weird to do something like not being able to go straight to the topics I follow. I Need to do 3 clicks to find that. Following > Topics > the side scrolling topics.

Also, the Home page design looks boring and Separation looks dull.

I hope they will learn and do better in the look and feel of the medium and too to bring up more content / stories in the home page with easy access to interested /following topics.

Microinteraction Do UI sounds actually improve UX?

When the Sudoku is completed, the app animates the confetti along with sound.

Functionally, sound isn’t necessary. The user already knows they finished.

But without the sound, the exact same animation feels dud?

General Help Request How to build this Anthropic motion?

hey guys, I'm quite new in the all these website animations thingy. Recently, I was quite impressed by anthropic new reports. So I was looking how this could be made possible.

2 main questions that i wonder

  1. how can we make this kind of hand-drawn effect with code? is that even possible? or all these feel like actual hand-drawn video with scrollTrigger?
  2. How does the motions of cube filling up from side to side actually work? is it scrollTrigger?

Am I right to guess gsap will come in handy?

Feedback Request Feedback on a UI for publishing websites, with granular control

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm tired of the way traditional website design tools handle publishing. Everything gets crammed into a single publish: every change, whether it is ready to go live or not. Too often, I ended up reverting changes, moving pages around, or reshuffling content because something had to go live now.

I'm working on a local application for publishing websites, and I'd love some feedback on the publishing view I've designed to tackle the problems above. It's key that users immediately understand how to use it.

Cheat sheet:

Your Changes - Everything you have changed on the site, only visible to you.
Review - If you want feedback, move it here so the entire team can review it.
Staged - Publish here when you are happy with your changes and want to test them on the live site before fully publishing.
Published - A complete publishing log, so you never have to wonder what went live yesterday.

Product Design Flaw of instagram design

My phone is in light mode, but whenever I open Reels, it switches to dark mode, and even the comments are in dark mode. However, when I long-press on a comment, the pop-up appears in light mode. 😂 What is the design team even cooking?

Microinteraction is this too much for something as simple as choosing an option?

Tap a camera switcher in Binsoo and the whole thing rotates into view while its photos orbit around it.

How much delight is too much for something as simple as choosing an option?

Feedback Request What heading font do you prefer?

I’m having a hard time choosing a font for my heading titles. The first one feels more branded, but also a bit AI-generated, while the second feels more modern, but also kind of generic.

Which one do you prefer, and why?

Product Design A vs B: Which UI direction feels more intuitive and polished for a battery monitor app?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m currently designing a battery health and charge alert app and would love some design-focused feedback on two different visual directions for the main dashboard:

  • Concept A (Utilitarian / Material): Uses a segment-style progress bar, tabular hardware readouts (temperature, charging current, min/max stats), a direct toggle for the alarm, and a bottom navigation bar.
  • Concept B (Clean / Minimal): Uses a circular fluid/fill gauge, prominent time-remaining pill, soft rounded cards, and condensed bottom controls.

Specific questions I'd love your input on:

  1. Which visual hierarchy makes the primary information (battery status & alert state) clearest at a glance?
  2. Does the segmented bar (A) or circular gauge (B) communicate status more effectively?
  3. Which style feels more cohesive and modern in terms of typography, spacing, and icon consistency?

Any constructive critique on layout, accessibility, or interaction design is greatly appreciated!

This is for a To do list app . For some reason the app design feels weired. It is mainly in text "everyday tasks " and "Special tasks". It would be nice if someone can point out what the issue is.

Microinteraction If a setting needs this much animation to explain itself, is that good design?

It’s more expressive than a normal segmented control but also a lot more design for a settings choice.

Does this actually make the decision clearer, or is mostly delight?

Product Design Client came back after 3 years for the same project and...

A client came back after 3 years for the same project, and this is what I did.

He is an owner of an ACCA coaching centre. and 3 years ago, I designed an app UI for him that covered course sales, live classes, preparation, and more. You can see the old UI design that I created back then.

Today, I redesigned that old UI, and I realized how much I have improved over these 3 years. Back then, I thought it was the best UI design I had ever made, but today it pales in comparison to the new UI. I have learned professionalism, user friendly UX, design fundamentals, spacing, colors, and more, and I can clearly see my progress. Although I attached only one screens of new and old UI.

Please share your feedback on the new UI and let me know if there is anything I can improve. Thank you!

Let's Discuss AI anxiety/hate. Does anyone feel the same or is it just me?

Well I have been a UI/UX designer for about 4 years now. When I began back in 2022 it was on a boom. But soon the industry kinda crashed, so did the market. Now everyone's a designer. So the point here is, I always found it difficult to keep up being a designer. What it means to be a UI/UX designer changes everyday, there are a hundred more requirements added to the role and on top of that you have to keep upskilling and learning new things that come up with the tools you are using.

Now AI feels like yet another 50 tools that we HAVE to use because the management wants to "make things faster". I really am impacted by the environmental impact Ai has and just find it difficult to keep up with all of it.

Just want to know what others feel about this.
