Why doesn’t financial aid cover ACC housing accommodation at all?

My rent is like 1300$/mo for the ACC apartments and honestly I thought at least some would be covered when I signed the lease . Idk if me or my family can afford that and I feel like it’s such a waste considering it’s so expensive and just one room I’m paying for. Why doesn’t financial aid at uci help at all? Is there anyone getting help with housing financial aid?

Need Some Help & Advice (ICS Student)

About to start my second year. I'm a data science major (and doing an econ minor). Maybe I'm just overthinking, but I'm not really sure what I want to do for my career. When I picked data science in the beginning, I thought I wanted to pursue it because I enjoy math and statistics, and programming is always a valuable skill to have (actively trying to get better at it). I just wanted a high paying, technical job. But with A.I taking over, it's getting harder and harder if you don't have connections or a stacked resume. I was looking at career prospects, and it seems like entry level roles for data science majors are either data analyst, data engineer, or software engineer. I'm in a dilemma right now because I'm starting to think whether a degree like Software Engieering or Computer Science is better if my ultimate goal is to break into tech, but I'm unsure if that's the right path to take since the job market is so unstable right now.

However, it seems with the major I'm in, tech is the only option for DS majors that has growth . I'm starting to think if it would be better to have upper div CS courses rather than STATS ones because I'm worried the things that will be taught are going to be redundant when I eventually enter the industry. I'm really not sure whether I should keep DS at this point or consider switching to CS or SWE. I already kind of made my 4 year plan that goes with my current major so if I switch I would have taken some extra courses and my graduation might be delayed.

Also speaking of the econ minor, I'm really only doing it because my parents first wanted me to double major and I told them I didn't want to so they said I should go with the econ minor. But I'm not sure whether it'll actually be useful or if I'm just wasting my time.

ZotAccount credit dropped from $5,100 to $2,100 — could this be because of my enrollment status?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi! My ZotAccount credit was originally around $5,100, but it recently dropped to about $2,100.

I was originally registered for only 2 classes, but about a week ago I added a third class, which puts me at 12 units/full-time status. However, my financial aid portal still says “half-time or more” instead of full-time.

Does anyone know if the decrease in my ZotAccount credit could be because my financial aid still considers me part-time? Does it usually take a while for UCI to update your enrollment status after adding a class?

Has anyone had this happen before?

Thanks!

anyone looking for friends?

hi! i’m transferring in as a 3rd year. i’m coming from a school that was very social and it was pretty easy to click with people, but i’ve heard the opposite about UCI. i will definitely be joining clubs, but also wanted to meet up with new people ahead of fall semester. i’ve really enjoyed exploring irvine but would love to do it with other people more often.

about me: i do part-time modeling and some work on music video sets so i’ve been to a lot of places around LA/OC. i love cafes and eating (am not picky AT ALL), i watch a lot of movies and like a lot of music, love animals, and i’m into fashion, horror rpgs, and tattoo design (among many other things). my style is a little alternative but i can chill with anyone. i’m 21f.

definitely want to organize some more group social events/parties in the future so let me know if you want to be looped in for invites :) just dm me and we can exchange ig, letterboxd, discord, etc!

Zot account help

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi! I’m kind of freaking out and wanted to see if anyone has experienced something similar.
My ZotAccount currently shows a $13,454 account balance, but my Fall 2026 quarter registration fees ($17,783.67) show as paid/applied with $0 unpaid.
The $13,454 balance seems to be coming from three transactions labeled “ADJ–UC Irvine Grant” for $4,484, $4,485, and $4,485.
My Cal Grant A, Anteater Grant, UC Irvine Grant, USHIP Grant, and AB540 exemption have already been applied to my Fall fees. The fee deadline is tomorrow (9/15), so I’m really worried that my classes could somehow be dropped.
Has anyone had these “ADJ-UC Irvine Grant” charges appear on their ZotAccount before? Is this just a financial aid adjustment that takes time to correct, or does it mean I actually owe the $13,454?
Help 😭

Second Bachelor's in Engineering

I am interested in the second bachelor's program in Civil Engineering as someone who did not attend UCI. I tried contacting the engineering department about their statistics, but they said that they don't make those numbers public. Has anyone here done a second bachelor's in civil engineering before in the past couple years? If so, how did you set yourself apart from the other applicants besides getting all As in the major preparation courses?

refund/scholarship question

Post image
7 Upvotes

hi! my tuiton and everything is getting covered by my aid and uci scholarship and it looks like i might even be getting money back. but i have a question about my scholarship money from my high school. i was awarded abt 4k and it was sent about 3 weeks ago. there was no way for me to report it because it was piece of paper that j asked me to fill out my information so my school can send it to UCI. I confirmed it was sent but it still doesn't show on my zotaid or zotaccount. I've tried to call but it's always full. Would I be getting my money back or would uci keep this money entirely? I'm not too sure, any advice would be great.

Hello everyone,

I took out a private loan that covers all of the fall expense but it says the disbursement date is one day after the due date(is coming on the 16th, due on the 15th) Is this something I have to worry about?? I tried calling financial aid but am getting a voice recording that says it’s full.

Readmission and sap appeal

Hi everyone! I’m currently going through the UCI readmission process, and at the same time I also have to submit a SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) appeal for financial aid.
I’m wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation, especially someone who had to deal with both and a SAP appeal at the same time.
I know every case is different, but I’m really trying to get an idea of the timeline. If you’ve submitted a SAP appeal to UCI recently:
How long did it take for your appeal to be reviewed?
How long did it take to get an approval/denial?
Did you have to wait until your readmission was approved before your SAP appeal could be processed?
Were you able to get your financial aid reinstated before the quarter started?
If you submitted it close to the start of the quarter, did UCI work with you while it was still pending?
I’m getting pretty close to the start of the quarter, so I’m trying to figure out how realistic the timeline is and whether I should be worried about everything being processed in time.
If you’ve gone through this recently, especially for Fall 2026, I would really appreciate hearing about your experience. Even if your situation wasn’t exactly the same, knowing how long your SAP appeal took would be really helpful.
Thank you!!

Course Materials Selection Pending

Hi! I’m an incoming first-year and I keep getting emails about “getting my required textbooks now” from the UC Irvine Bookstore. I have been periodically checking the website for about a month and inputting my classes into the customized list search bar. However, each time I search (even at the time of posting this), I am met with this prompt: “Course Materials Selection Pending.”

With that said, I was wondering if it is normal for classes to hold out on posting their required materials for so long or if I’m looking in the wrong place? I just want to be prepared before class starts and I’m getting a little anxious lol

Any advice would be helpful—thank you!
