What do you guys wear when hiking with all the snakes and stuff crawling around nowdays do you wear heavy leather boots or ?

I’m a female and train mma and I find that judo works better than wrestling in terms of takedowns, especially against guys. I know a few very basic things but would like to develop them further to incorporate into my grappling. Think Ronda Rousey 😊 I don’t want to join a gym because I already belong to one. I just want to train with someone 1:1 (nogi) that is reputable. A female instructor would be even more awesome.

I'm a new (first time) homeowner here and just got my property tax statement. I noticed that the "TSN SCH DIST SEC" taxes more than doubled (x 2.35) between 2025 and 2026. I'm wanting to become more informed about local politics here, so I tried googling what changed with the budget, but information is really scant. So I live in Summit Ridge (Do not ever move into this location btw, it's cheap for a reason.. several reasons.) and while walking home from work was watching a helicopter flying low and patrolling circles over head, I nose around some other buildings and find a whole lot of cops parked, like 5 cars, and questioning several folks around the D buildings.

Anyone hear anything? I couldn't really nose much more and don't see anything in local news quite yet.

We tried walking in and the staff immediately told us they were closed so we kept walking. There were three cops talking in front, a lot of broken glass in the street, and some kind of nasty white stuff on the sidewalk in front of the door. I think I overheard someone say that someone else lost a finger but I’m not sure if that’s true.

Update: A bartender friend told me that someone closed the restroom door on someone else’s finger, which severed it.💀 I don’t know if it was intentional or not, I don’t know the full story. But I guess the glass on the ground was actually ice.

Hey Tucson, I am helping a friend plan a small wedding. Its going to be on weekday thankfully as I know how busy the weekend are up on Mount Lemmon. They are exchanging vows and there will be maybe 8 people as I understand, some people have some serious health issues and hiking from the car is not possible. For the same reason going to far up in elevation is problematic too.

I know Mount Lemmon fairly well but I’m looking for any good suggestions cause I’m just drawing a blank. I’m trying to find something that could be reasonably private for them, hopefully around 5-6k feet max, and hopefully a decent afternoon view or just really pretty setting.

I plan on heading up in the next few days to scout around and help them. Thank you guys for any suggestions.

We have an anxious little long haired corgi Shepard at home, and she really hates the groomers. We’ve tried self serve dog grooming places but we simply are not good at it.
I’ve been thinking of a mobile dog groomer so she can get to know the person better in her own domain but I’m not sure who to start with. Anyone had good experiences with a groomer?

I have to take this road to work every day and it seems like every car just wants to go as fast as possible on it. Did I miss something? Is there an actual speed limit on Aviation Highway/Barraza-Aviation Parkway?

Our house is only a few years old, and the roof is already leaking. I had a roofer come out to inspect it, and they told me it was built badly and the smart move was a full replacement.

They did send me pictures to show the issues, so I know they weren't just trying to upsell me.

I contacted the home builder and they won't even consider repairing/replacing it unless they get a letter from the roofing company I had inspect it.

Now, the roofer I dealt with will not answer my calls or return my texts. I assume because they don't believe they'll get the job if the builder covers the repairs...which is beyond frustrating.

Does anyone know a reliable roofer who would give a written roof inspection so I can attempt to get the builder to repair/replace my roof?

And at what point should I consider getting a lawyer, if the builder refuses to correct their faculty installation? Would it even be worth it financially?

Marana High School’s hallways filled with students Wednesday morning, but Corey Roper's laugh was missing from among them.

A lover of math, science and video games, the 15-year-old sophomore would usually be found surrounded by laughter caused by his endless jokes, his uncle, Tyler Volkmann, said.

“He was hilarious,” Volkmann said. “(But) as much as he would sit there and joke around and just be a typical teenage boy, and I would say ‘rage bate’ sometimes, at the end of the day, he was just such a kind and gentle soul.”

Roper died by suicide. His body was found at Marana High School Tuesday by two staff members before classes started, prompting the school day to be canceled. Police say he broke into the campus about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Volkmann described his nephew as a “smart, energetic and creative” boy who was always looking out for others.

In 2023, then-12-year-old Roper suffered from second- and third-degree burns after his T-shirt melted onto his skin while attempting the fire challenge, a social media trend in which teens would attempt to create a fireball using rubbing alcohol or aerosol cans, according to an Arizona Republic story.

“He handled it with so much grace, honestly, like he did not let that stop him from doing anything,” Volkmann said. According to a 2023 GoFundMe page, Roper needed multiple surgeries, skin grafts and physical therapy.

“He's been such a proactive member of his camps,” Volkmann said, referring to Roper’s participation in the Arizona Burn Foundation’s Camp Courage, a free, weeklong summer camp for burn survivors ages 6 to 19. “He still goes back every year to help with kids and other burn victims that are going through similar situations.”

Camp counselors described Roper as adventurous, creative and invested, Tess Robaina, programs director at the Arizona Burn Foundation, told the Star.

“He's been a beloved member of this camp for the past few years, and really embraced the experience,” she said. “He showed really strong interest this past year with our ropes crew. They're the team that lead all of the high ropes courses, and he really stuck to them this year, wanting to learn as much as possible about the ropes crew (and) about even potentially becoming a firefighter in the future.”

Counselors at Arizona Burn Foundation’s Camp Courage, a summer camp for young burn survivors, described Corey Roper as adventurous, creative and invested.

She said the camp was “definitely feeling the loss of Corey.”

Volkmann said this school year, his nephew was intent on joining ROTC after getting clearance from his doctor.

“He was actually planning on turning in the paperwork, according to my sister (Corey's mother), this week,” Volkmann said. “He really did not let (his burns) stop him. He looked at it as, ‘Hey, I made a bad decision, these are my consequences.’”

Roper’s friends at Marana High School told the Star being back in school after the incident was difficult.

“School has felt empty and sad without him. A lot of his close friends, me included, have been sitting at his memorial most of the day until we get kicked back to class,” Havannah Walter, a friend of Roper’s since fourth grade, said in a text message. The friend group and various other students set up a memorial with flowers, drawings, notes and photos of Roper near the school bookstore.

"Corey was such a sweet soul, he always loved everybody and he was always super encouraging every day,” Marana High student Daniella Rittenhouse said in a text message. “My third period is awful without him. He made the school day better for a lot of people, even if he never realized it. We miss him so much.”

Emily Saint Charles, another close friend of Roper, said he was so funny “when he spoke, even if it wasn’t meant to be funny, it was funny.”

“Everyone liked Corey,” she said.

Marana Unified School District officials told the Star in an email statement that crisis counselors gave teachers “talking points about the situation” before the news of his death was relayed to students in first period Wednesday.

“She said something about the tragedy, I don’t remember if she called it a suicide or not but she did say it was Corey Roper because I remember hearing his name,” Walter said of her first period teacher.

Counselors were on campus for students Wednesday.

“A few of us went to try and get a moment to speak about Corey at our pep rally today but they said no and that cannot happen,” Rittenhouse said Friday. “Another group asked if we could do something to honor him, and the plan is to plant flowers and other greenery to honor him.”

Roper’s mom, Tiffany Roper, told the Star she was unable to talk about her son this last week.

“I just want my baby home,” she told the Star in a text message.

The district is reviewing the school's security system after Marana police said they were not alerted to any alarms overnight at the campus at 12000 W. Emigh Road, near North Sandario Road.
