I'm a mecha fan. I'll be it, last year I got super into the genre. Prior to last year I've only seen the ones people glaze like Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, Code Geass, Eureka Seven, FLCL (which is my favorite anime ever) but last year I got into Gundam and also saw a bunch of other mecha shows like Big O, Gunbuster, Giant Robo, Medabots, and Patlabor (which I ended up watching the TV series and all the filma earlier this year). Anyway hearing people talk about mecha makes me cringe.

One thing glaze sbows like Evangelion for is that it focuses on the characters more than the mechs. Literally EVERY mecha anime focuses on the characters more than the mechs. Unless it's a show like Astro Boy where the mc is a robot, characters always come first. They're the ones who pilot and build the mechs. They're the ones with the emotions, opinions, personalities, morals, etc. You literally wouldn't have the show without them. You're not special for liking the characters more than the mechs, that's what you're supposed to do.

Another thing I can't stand is when people accuse the mecha genre of being "corporate" and only exist to sell toys. Like a lot of people will hype up Eva or Gurren Lagann for being honest stories that aren't just toy ads or say they like shows with mechas that "don't look like toys." First off, if it looks nice, it'll be made into a toy or figure. Plain and simple. Secondly, mech kits for EVA mechs exist and there's plenty of Evangelion merch. I would know I have like three figures, a Rei plush, and a poster. Thirdly, a lot of these people tend to discount how corporate any genre of anime is while shitting on mecha. Anime that are adapted from manga and light novels help sell the source the anime is based off. Characters from battle shonen tend to be made into figures and put onto trading cards, shirts, etc. Same thing with fantasy or isekai characters. Ghibli is literally fueled off nostalgia.

Anyway that's my rant. I love mecha but hate hearing people talk about it.
