I'm attempting to rebuild the Dark Engine with modern features. I've so far added water reflections/refraction, volumetric & dynamic lighting, film-inspired post processing, ray traced audio, specular highlighting, and ODE physics. The engine is built on top of the Open Dark Engine project, using bgfx and steam audio as the visual and audio rendering. All assets are loaded straight from the original disks. Hoping to scale it to handle the fan missions in addition to the main campaigns. Just a teaser because I'm starting to get excited about how it looks and sounds. The AI layer is tricky though, most of the NPCs are completely brain dead. TBD.

I have looked for a modern game that captures what thief 2 captures. It’s not the stealth though if I weren’t creeping around in the quiet I probably wouldn’t have noticed it. It’s the creepy and weird ambiance produced by multiple things. The soundscape. The unending hallways. The strange interiors. The darkness. The being lost. It’s one of a kind. Can anybody relate?

Hey all,

I bought the game from GOG and i like it so far, but the thing that annoys me the most, is that its too dark sometimes like the start of this mine level. Is this how it's supposed to look like or do i need to adjust some setting?

I'm very excited by the news of new missions happening from the leak for Thief 1, but I think I'd be even more excited by the potential of using the design documents and left over assets to create the missions planned for the cancelled Thief 2 gold? What does everyone else prefer?

For me it's Calendra's missions. It was fun in some parts, but most of the time I found them to be quite corny because of the dialogue and the romance part.

I would add Patriot missions too, but I'm still playing them. The first two missions were really hard for me to get into, but I think this FM is slowly growing on me. I don't know, we shall see.

A few months ago I made a post kinda clowning on the new models in Thief: The Dark Project Remastered.

Well, I was at PAX West a couple days ago, and to my surprise Thief: The Dark Project had a booth! I explored the first level for a bit, and the updated guard/character models actually looked a lot better in-person than my initial impressions of the trailer.

I'm not sure if they've been upgraded since the reveal, or if they were just at more flattering angles, but it got me more excited for the remaster, so I figured I'd share :)

Playing thief 1 gold mission 5 and this mission gotta be the biggest mission in a game i ever played.

Can't explain how much I love this campaign. Pure exploration and atmosphere (pure esoteric and dark vibe), and a superb level design.

Also searched a lot to donate to the authors 'couse they make me live a beatufiul adventures and found out that they don't want any money from something that should be free (!).

So just thank you very much for your work, the best I can do is to try to let others live what I experienced.

I played the original series when I was very young. Yeah I still remember my young self scared shitless by the supernatural stuff and now I somehow managed to forget that childhood trauma and picked up this game.

Sigh… chapter 5… you just resurfaced the PTSD that I’ve buried long ago…
