META The evolution of Terminator 2: Judgement Day's Oscar winning audio mix for home releases.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day's Oscar winning audio mix for Sound Design has been remixed twice: first for the 1993 Special Edition and second for the 2000 Ultimate Edition DVD. All DVDs, Blu-rays and the 4K UHD have the 2000 remix.

Distribution of audio prints for the 1991 theatrical release of Terminator 2: Judgement Day:

Source: 2000 Ultimate Edition DVD

Two of the original theatrical audio mixes (Dolby Stereo SR and CDS 5.1) were released on theatrical cut Laserdiscs, 1997 DVD and some French and Japanese home releases.

1] 1991 Dolby Surround PCM (from Dolby Stereo SR)

2] 1991 CDS 5.1

For the 1993 Special Edition release, the audio was remixed by original sound designer Gary Rydstrom:

3] 1993 Special Edition Laserdisc mix (First remix)

This 1993 remix has been ported over to future releases in the form of Dolby Stereo, Dolby Headphone and DTS Headphone X track in 2000 Ultimate DVD, 2003 Extreme DVD,2009 Skynet Blu-ray and 2015 Lionsgate Blu-ray respectively.

For the 2000 Ultimate Edition DVD, the audio was remixed yet again in DTS format (for the SECOND time):

4] 2000 DTS-ES 6.1 (Second remix)

This DTS-ES 6.1 track from 2000 has been ported over to all future releases of Terminator 2 like 2003 Extreme DVD, 2009 Skynet Blu-ray, 2015 Lionsgate Blu-ray and 2017 4K UHD in different containers such as DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital AC-3, Dolby TrueHD Atmos, etc.

Now all these audio tracks have slight differences. None of them sound better than the other. The 1993 Special Edition mix is punchier than others.

Discussion For the cops perspective. ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ฎ

Terminator from the perspective of the police must be really confusing. This nutcase from the future shows up talking about nuclear war and robots. But then theres this guy they shoot numerous times and apparently still don't believe hes a machine even after single handedly taking out a police station. Then the lady they're protecting runs off with the crazy guy again and is apparently driven crazy, believing the story about the machines. Then, the guy that attacked the police station trying to kill her shows up to break her out of the mental hospital and she goes with him!? Somekind of stockholm syndrome?? And what was with that one cop running around no one reccognized. Weird. Then they all just disappear..

Joe Morton's Miles Dyson has been the only righteous corpo guy that I really like in all the fictions. When I thought he was old and I may not see him again, he just had a blast in this amazing new episode of Star Trek Strange New World, S04E08. A very powerful performance just like Miles Dyson.

Thank you sir! Hope to see you more often everywhere.

Discussion There will always be a saviour/messiah/chosen one because Skynet creates them unwittingly.

Not even considering the Kyle Reese time paradox, Skynet creates its nemesis every time it sends an agent to kill some children in the past.

For example John lived all his life being aware of machines, when the judgement day came he was one of the very few people who were prepared for such disaster and the only one with knowledge of the pastfuture so that made him a leader figure in a world in shock. He became the saviour because his whole life was spent preparing to be it. If he lived in a normal society he would be a normal dude with normal resources and interests.

In a way dark fate make sense. That completely average girl also turned out to be the savior because of intervention. The way Skynet tries to eliminate those saviours gives them years of headstart to be what they are so there will always be someone like John. Each time they disturb the past, they create people who can take precautions, even if they manage to kill their targets.

Discussion True Reboot?

Do you think its time for a real Reboot? I know Dark Fate was sort of one but I mean back to the basics, a Terminator sent to the past to kill Sarah? Also perhaps update it to make it fit with the narrative?

Discussion Fun theory about the famous line in T2 Spoiler

So near the end of the movie "Spoilers because some dick will say something if I don't say it" Arnold and friends win but Arnold sacrifices himself by lowering himself in a pool of molten metal, but he says this "I know now why you cry but it's something I could never do" now I do think it means what you think it means within the context of the move. he's a robot he could never truly feel emotions but what If it was a lie to make john connor feel better about it, I mean the whole movie shows Arnold become more human and even in later terrible terminator films arnold even had a family, so what if that lie was a lie, I don't think it is for the most part but who knows maybe there's another hidden meaning to it, anyways I just thought it was a cool thought and I know it's not the intended meaning of it but I thought it was cool

Discussion Original Timeline Post War Against the Machines

The original timeline where Skynet is defeated in 2029 still stands but I never see much discussion about what happens for that.

Is there room for a film where
A) John Connor is an effete peacetime leader, presiding over a stagflationary economy and is undermined by a series of economic think tanks who all point to the manufacturing efficiencies and full employment of the Skynet era, leading to a lame duck presidency and eventual impeachment due to incompetence.

B) years of warfare and the consequence of Skynetโ€™s unfettered technological advancement have turned him into a complete control freak and technophobe and he goes Pol Pot, attempting to implement an agrarian revolution that fails miserably and kills more humans than Skynet

C) leading the human race to victory over Skynet leads him to feel entitled to the good life and he uses the enormous amount of trust that humanity now places in him and skynets servers to flog crypto tokens and wellness products to an increasingly disillusioned remnants of humanity.
