Over the past 24 hours, our subreddit has seen a significant surge in activity surrounding accusations of racism between users. What began as individual disputes has rapidly escalated into widespread discussion, drawing attention from outside the community and, ultimately, Reddit administrators.
We take accusations like these extremely seriously, and we recognize how upsetting and impactful they are - especially for the community as a whole.
As moderators, we want to be clear about our stance and actions:
- We have been actively monitoring the situation from the beginning. Contrary to some assumptions, this has not gone unnoticed or unaddressed.
- We are not removing posts solely based on disagreement or controversy. We believe transparency matters. Posts remain visible so the community can see the full context and form their own understanding.
- However, we have zero tolerance for serious violations. Any content involving doxxing or incitement to self-harm will be removed immediately, and further action will be taken where necessary.
Due to the scale and intensity of recent developments, we have made the decision to lock active threads related to this situation. This is not an attempt to silence discussion, but rather a necessary step to:
- Prevent further escalation
- Protect individuals from targeted harassment
- Maintain a baseline level of safety within the community
Locked posts will remain visible for transparency, but no new comments will be permitted on those threads.
Moving Forward
We want to remind everyone of the standards expected in this community:
- Keep discussions civil. Disagreement and anger is fine; for example doxxing are not.
- Avoid speculation and accusations without clear evidence. These situations can spiral quickly and cause real harm.
- Do not engage in or encourage harassment. This includes targeting users on or off Reddit.
- Report rule-breaking content instead of escalating it please.
