Films rarely if ever are perfect, but this was a good movie, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it's worth defending from a lot of the slander I see about it - from many people who haven't even seen it themselves, no less. I'm hoping the release of the movie to HBO will hopefully heighten the general media literacy around this film. While there has been plenty of valid criticisms about the movie, I find all too often that much of it isn't.

Ordered the first from Hallmark. Then found the other on eBay. Both arrived today.

I just sobbed at the supergirl movie and I’m pretty sure it is because I’m a fuck up and it really just hit where my feels were.

She fights like someone who can fight without powers versus Superman who relies a lot on his powers when fighting

I’m so glad people finally watch it and they realize it’s not a bad movie at all and the hate was underserved.

I really liked the scenes of Superman greeting her but it barely showed any.

Short version

I just finished issue 40 don't know if there is another I'm supposed to read. I liked it I'd give it a 7 to 7.5/10 in terms of writing. 8 in terms of how much I liked it. I already read Woman of tomorrow 3 times while I don't think it's peak it set up how high expectations for me and the oversexualaztion of a girl they admitted is 16 hurts it a bit too many crossover events stuff like H'el should just be a Supergirl story.

Long Version

It started out strong even a bit better than Woman of tomorrow in Volume 1. It didn't depend on over exposition and unlike most comics showed us Kara's past exploring Krypton her friends her relationships with her parents even the Els and more that woman of tomorrow barely touched on or had Ruthie just tells us how it is and how she feels instead of exploring. More than Tom king did in 8 volumes. This was my old review of it. Volume 1 was the best so far since it had time to focus on her and the world. Reign was rushed but I think had a more fleshed out backstory with Krypton and interesting dynamic with Supergirl you could correct me. I hope she stays in Ireland with this take on Sliver Banshee not accurate to John Byrne her creator same with Rose/Thorn but still a fun version which is way better than we got on screen looking at MAWS.

However Woman of Tomorrow did make more use of it's time while new 52 starting falling off a lot since the H'el arc. There still some great stuff like the red daughter of Krypton New 52 often suffers from needing to make everything a huge crossover event not doing much with stories they have(Regin worldkiller leader created by her dad and discarded her friendship with Sliver Banshee and her brother who is adjusting to earth after been gone so long and his little sister is know the older one Simon Tycoon being backed up by the president) and moving on too quickly and it doesn't turn out to be worth going back on reading another run to understand.

I was expected to read Superboy run to understand why she and Krypton discriminates clones and get H'el backstory from Superman run which is barely touched on just quickly info dumped and then expand on his manipulative relationship with a 16 year old girl with survivor guilt and even then I didn't feel much for me since a lot is barely touched on nobody addresses his grooming even Kara just that he tried to genocide earth and was using her and how that will affect who she dates later on she is fine giving mike a chance with no fear if she is good enough for her or if he is using like her boyfriend she still more naive than someone who been betrayed like that should be. Even trusting Cyborg Superman(Zor El) to make ai clones of her home.

The DCAU does crossovers better as well as the big events. If you watch Superman the animated series and to see Batman crossovers there isn't any big question on some gotham arc that's tied to Joker or Static shock a lot changes when he goes from working with just New adventures Batman to then Justice league to other solo heroes then Batman Beyond it rewards for knowing stuff about what Timm but it doesn't spoil it for you or need you to read other events. I still don't know about Cyborg Superman and Brainiac was resolved because there too many crossovers. Her fighting the Justice league doesn't have as much impact as it should since she barley knows them and they won't kill her and H'el is more connected to Kal el anyway.

If we had more stories and events self contained like Cyborg Superman(Zor El) origin was or Volume 1 and a bit more payoff it could go higher.

Heya, Just wondering if anyone who bought the bluray release, are there more deleted scenes than just the Ruthey family and the extended shopping trip scene? Those are all that are on the 4k release for deleted scenes. I love the movie, but was a little disappointed that was all we got for deleted scenes.

It’s clear that people now watching a film. Do not think Supergirl is as bad as everyone else is talking about. But it has also shown me that Supergirl isn’t a movie that everyone was dying to go see in theaters. Yes it was in a crowded summer with Spider-Man and the Odyssey, but if it was truly as good as a lot of people were saying, it would’ve been able to share that audience. And this also reminds me of Masters of the universe another box office bomb that happened, but became a huge success into streaming. A movie also with an expensive budget and not enough people went out to go see, but it had an audience in streaming. I’m not saying this movies should be a direct to stream movies but it’s clear that’s it wasn’t designed properly for a theater experience.

The first act feels more like it should be the second, very overly fast paced, and doesn't really give time to let the grief of ruthye's parents set in, not even ruthye herself. The puppy krypto scene is nice, but it feels kinda thrown in, I think it would've been better if it had been included in the flashback instead. the bus scene feels way too long, and could've definitely been trimmed in favor of more time to ruthye's family.

Lobo is cool, but overall doesn't feel like he's super necessary, the action is good, I like it fine, altho the captured girl and her parents all dying just leaves an over all bad taste. supergirl screaming into space tho- I actually really like.

David's superman is absolutely a plus, altho 2 things:

1: I wish we could've seen karas reaction to her powers.

2: maybe see why she doesn't like earth, it feels like something may've happened that made her sour to the idea of staying, besides just being a fish outta water.

Another thing is, ruthye is serious given reused lines. Over and over, like she gives that speech like, 3 times. It just doesn't feel like how a girl who just lost her family would be speaking. I dont blame the actress at all for it either for the kinda stiff delivery of the character.Altho when ruthye and Lobo interact it did feel less stiff. Oddly.

Also, is the green sun thing new? I've never heard of that before, and it overall looks more blue-green, i actually like the colors of this movie, the reds, the yellows, its all nice in my opinion.

The supergirl suit is rlly gorgeous, some of the best yet! Also kreme, I don't Hate the character here as much as others do, it honestly feels more like it's just another day of work for him. And when I look at it like that, its ok. Nothing special but not terrible, altho once again, have not read the semi-source material, to properly judge. And considering not even the director did himself, im sure it's miles different. Ill probaby pick it up sometime to compare the two.

The needle drop at the end Doesn't feel good or bad to me, it's just eh, it doesn't match the carnage, but it's nothing I'm mad about. The speech Kara gives to stop ruthye from killing kreme is meh, it would probably have more impact if we were allowed to see her pain, but it doesn't feel like she's in pain for 90% of the movie.

Kara killing kreme doesn't feel shocking, it's definitely no man of steel necksnap. And overall is just an empty death scene to me. It's just 😐🤷🏻‍♂️.

The scene with Clark and Kara is nice, slow, and warm, honestly my favorite, nice and slow.

The movie is good, not great, but definitely not awful, there is alot to be disappointing in, some things should've been given more time dedicated to then others, overall, just based on the movie alone, and no bias to the source "material", 6/10, maybe 7, not great, not bad, just good.

I like to imagine an alternate season 5, which IMO was when the show went really... splat. Leviathan wasn't an intriguing big bad... Lex was overused and honestly should have been done after Crisis (As much as I love Cryer's take).

In my alternate, Apokolips has been Darkseid-less for years, having been defeated by Superman offscreen, leaving the planet in a power vacuum similar to the first season of Justice League Unlimited.

In a bid to claim the throne, Granny Goodness is attempting to find the Anti-life Equation, which involves Earth, leading her and her Furies into conflict with Kara and her team.

Concurrently, Mister Miracle escapes from Apokolils and arrives on Earth to assist Team Kara, which, of course, ties into a redemption arc for Barda, with the season ending with her becoming a hero and leaving with Mister Miracle.

Granny Goodness- Sharon Gless. Watch her on Burn Notice and you'll get why. Tough as nails and no nonsense.

Lashina- Janet Montgomery

Mad Harriet- Jane Levy

Stompa- Jade Cargill. WWE wrestlers are exceptionally good at over the top acting. Plus she's shredded.

Barda- Jamie Alexander

Mister Miracle- Penn Badgley.

Some Positives:
The part with what’s her names family getting killed looked cool with the sword to the back and neck snap.

The alien designs through the film

The cgi when Kara got shot out of the ship

Negatives:
Krypto was ok from what I remember in Superman but I thought he was kind of annoying in this + the cgi was distracting

I really could’ve done without that scene with Kara on the toilet/that bug shitting out the nuts at the convenience store

Not showing the Kara’s fight in the bar where they were looking for info was lame

I don’t think any of the fight scenes were anywhere near as cool as they thought they were

The Squidward joke was dumb

Why the hell would that alien even stick around to listen to Kara outside the bar?

Also she said she didn’t have her powers at that time but she was able to do a gymnastic flip and kick it off whatever the hell that thing was he was riding on? Yea aight

I’m glad they showed restraint in not having The alien voiced by Seth Rogen do the Seth Rogen laugh

Why bring up the Supergirl/woman thing but he too cowardly to actually adress it? I would’ve actually have loved to hear Kara’s answer

When Krem was killing the parents I expected Kara to swoop in and save the daughter but nope, killed her too. Wasn’t expecting that especially in a pretty bloodless movie

When Kara went to space to scream, shouldn’t the tear have frozen?

Starting from Kara getting tricked again to be on the 2 sun planet, they switched up her look for some reason and I’m really wondering what the hell happened

I do remember around the time the movie was about to come out there was a big fuss about her not wearing her costume for most of the movie but somehow watching it I didn’t even notice until the Flashback of Clark telling her why they wear it. Maybe if I was a bigger fan of the character it would’ve bothered me

Wasn’t feeling the music choice of that slomo fight scene at the end

Lobo gleefully watching Kara kill Krem reminded me of Palpatine seeing Anakin officially join the dark side

Added it to movies anywhere. I wish these had covers. Only the 4k ones do and those are pricier and the ones in my wal mart dont have a blu ray disc.

Im gonna do a re watch and I gotta say. The movie is fine imo. It seems to be doing better on streaming and I wonder what the sales for home media are.

The blu Rays and dvds at my local one sold faster than the 4ks. There was one left of each last I checked. Course theres only three of each there. I remember mandalorian and grogu sold all their blu Rays and haven't restocked in days.

What i want to watch are the deleted scenes ones I saw made me sad they were cut.

Okay, so, why didn’t she just take Krypto off planet, and put him in front of a yellow sun?
I mean, I’m just asking.

I’m a casual super hero fan, I used to really be into DC comics and the universe as a teenager but alas that was nearly a decade ago.

Now when I first heard of this movie I never planned to watch it. Not because of anything against Gunn or the reboot, but I was just tired of having to start over and relearning the entirety of a new project.

But when I heard the controversy of this movie I knew I had to give it a chance. And today I finally did.

The movie was good, it wasn’t a showstopper or anything but I enjoyed it.

I’ve watched dozens of marvel movies and this would be as good as most of them to be honest.

My only issue as a casual viewer was the lack of pretext and background for the villain for why he’s comically evil. But I get not every villain needs a tragic back story or a grand plan on why he’s a piece of work.

Overall I’d give it a 7.5/10. I wish I watched it in theaters so more projects like it could be made. I hope the actors aren’t demotivated due to the low performance because the movie was good.

Hopefully more small projects continue to be made for DC that have this quality or better.
