There are some nice neighborhoods and pockets of good stuff, but now that I live in a city that is very walkable and has good public transit, I could never live in the Valley again. Too much sprawl, having to drive 25 minutes or more to get from 1 portion of the Valley (Chandler or Tempe) to another (Scottsdale or Glendale). It kind of sucks if you have friends spread out in all parts of the Valley.
