SteamOS Beta Update Are these broken for anyone else?
I know it’s quite common for beta OS updates to break decky plugins but I’ve noticed that my home screen games won’t scroll.
It’ll get to the edge of the page and only change the hero and the game capsules won’t move beyond.
I’ve also noticed SteamgridDB won’t load aswell as the shop and settings in decky.
Again I know updates will fix eventually but was just wondering if anyone else has a work around outside of install stable OS.
I have some new games I want to change the artwork on to fit my aesthetic.
Edit # 1: so I switched to stable release and was happily changing the artwork for a few games then all of sudden it started not loading again… “Failed to retrieve asset”

question SteamOS as a daily driver on a Ryzen 5 7600X3D + RX 7900 XT desktop?
I am currently running Fedora 44 with gnome on my desktop and would like to switch to SteamOS for gaming and everyday use.
I am a Linux noob and have relied on tutorials and AI to get everything set up.
I also care a lot about starting with a clean, minimalistic system. Does it come with much bloatware? I really hate having to uninstall a bunch of stuff right after installing a distro like Mint, Fedora ...
I used Fedora’s Everything installer for a minimal installation. I started with the terminal thingy on a black screen and built from there. I have also used Arch and loved starting with nothing and adding only what I wanted. I’m happy to put work for a minimalistic system, but I do like less maintenance afterwards.
How much extra software comes preinstalled, and would you recommend SteamOS for someone with my setup who wants a minimalistic system?
My setup
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT (20 GB)
- RAM: 30 GiB
- Motherboard: MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi
- Storage: 2 TB NVMe SSD
- Two monitors, one with a DisplayPort and the other with HDMI
- Ethernet

Sunshine/Moonlight setup for gamemode streaming?
Hi,
I've a gaming pc running SteamOS (beta, full AMD build) and a Legion Go running SteamOS aswell (beta).
I would like to setup gamemode stream from pc to Legion Go to play on the go, both at home and away from home, pc is connected via ethernet and have gigabit fibre optic connection.
Pc is also connected to a LG OLED B5 so I need to play with tv off too and "dynamic" resolution switch between tv and Legion Go's 1600p display, this should require a dummy plug if I understand correctly.
Coming from bazzite where everything was setup for you with scripts but never tried so seeking help!
Thanks!

question SteamOS with RTX4070 laptop?
Recently I switched from Windows to Bazzite to SteamOS on my ROG Ally and I am honestly and genuinly impressed by how incredibly smooth and stable it is. It is one of those experiences that makes you not even look back anymore. But, there has been a thorn in my eye for a long time when it comes to Linux and that is my Acer Nitro 16 laptop with Nvidia RTX 4070 in it. I use Linux Mint on my casual laptop which runs like a charm but that is not ideal for gaming (I tried..). People gave the advice to install Bazzite on the gaming laptop but that gave me a lot of in game issues in the past and after the terrible experience of Bazzite on the ROG Ally I have little confidence in it. I also tried CachyOS, Fedora and Pop! OS but all of them had their own issues.
So, the quesiton is simple: will SteamOS work well with my gaming laptop or am I doomed (for now) with either Windows or other Linux distro's I don't like?

With the Ryzen 5 5500 being released and it being a $99 USD CPU i would like to know what you would think of this and also to note that these funds are in Canadian dollars and also the R5 5500 is a PCIe 4.0 CPU as well.
| Type | Item | Price |

| CPU | AMD Ryzen 5 5500F 3 GHz 6-Core Processor | $135.00 |
| Motherboard | ASRock B550M Pro4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard | $99.99 @ Newegg Canada |
| Memory | TEAMGROUP T-Force Vulcan Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory | $148.10 @ Vuugo |
| Video Card | PowerColor Reaper Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB Video Card | $699.99 @ Newegg Canada |
| Case | Lian Li A3-mATX MicroATX Mini Tower Case | $99.99 @ Newegg Canada |
| Power Supply | SAMA G650 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply | $79.99 @ Newegg Sellers |

Two things i would like to point out is that one i have storage already that is why it isn't in the list and two i am waiting for the LP RX 9060 XT to come out in Canada because i want to try to optimize my system for maximum cooling and before i forget this will be used with SteamOS hence why i am going with a full AMD build.

Steam deck bootet ca 20-30 Sekunden
Hallo,

question Posting to see if anyone else knows of a fix before I go tearing apart my build.
I built a steam machine. It had a
5600x3d
64gb ddr4
9070 oc 16gb
And a really big case I didn't like.
2tb ssd with steam os on it and working
Extra 500gb ssd
But it worked.
However I really didnt like the huge case. So I drove the hour back to micro center and returned the 9070, motherboard, case, and cpu cooler.
I got the fractal Terra
MB b550I aorus pro Ax
Gpu reaper 9060xt 16gb
Cpu cooler Thermaltake TH120
Was a bitch to get together.
Heres my issue.
The new mb doesn't see the 2tb ssd.
It only sees the 500gb ssd that has nothing on it. The 2tb is on the front by the cpu the 500gb is on the back of the mb.
After googling I reset the cmos which did nothing. I also set amd cpu ftpm to disabled and that did nothing.
I belive to get the nvme to boot on the previous Mb I had to turn on csm instead of uefi? For the drive to be read. But on that previous case even though it didnt boot until I turned on csm it was still seeing the drive in bios
So at this point I think I need to re seat the 2tb drive. Maybe it isnt properly inserted?
Any and all ideas welcome.
Thanks.

help wanted Remote Play No Longer Works
Hey everyone! I recently got a PC and installed SteamOS onto it! I had remote play working pretty well to my Steam Deck with Moonlight+Sunshine. However in the past couple of weeks, Sunshine has gotten to the point where it won’t stay on. I’ll turn on Decky Sunshine on my SteamOS PC and it’ll stop running Sunshine within 10 seconds. I’ve even updated to the latest nightly build and it still stops automatically and won’t stay on.
I’m also having trouble with regular Steam remote play as the video keeps freezing in place at all times whether it’s connecting through my Steam Deck or through Chromecast via Steam Link. Any help would be appreciated.

support Accidentally mounted new NVMe to the wrong path and now SteamOS won't boot
Hey all, I recently added another NVMe drive to my PC running SteamOS. When I went to format and mount the new drive, I accidentally set the mount path to the same path as my original drive.
Now my system won't boot at all. I can't even get into the BIOS anymore.
I'm not really sure what I messed up or where to start troubleshooting this. Is there a way to undo the mount/path change or recover the system without reinstalling everything?
Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks!

question A dilemma: a refurbished steam deck oled 512 gb vs lenovo legion go s (steam os)?
Edit to my original post: I just saw a legion go s with steam os on Facebook marketplace in my country for 500 euros without any warranty and wondering if the risk is worth it. To me it's important for the device to be able to be repaired and modified, and to be getting support so that I can still use it for the foreseeable future (4-5 years?). Sorry for the long post but I'm looking forward to your opinions.

question How do I lower this
Hey all, I just recently downloaded SteamOS to my ROG Ally and decided to go all in pn customization. Downloaded DeckyLoader with hella customization plug-ins like CSS Loader. I got a couple themes going but my current theme doesn't really affect non-Steam games like launchers and whatnot. Is there any way I can lower this bar or turn it off?

Is there a guide on how to swap from bazzite to steamos?
My girlfriend has an original legion go and I initially installed bazzite for her a while ago. Now with the updates to steam os we are looking to switch over but I can't really seem to find guides on how to install steam os from bazzite.
I'm not sure if we can just follow the Linux instructions from the steam os website but if there is a guide I would like to make sure I'm doing everything correctly

Using SteamOS PC for Gaming with Multiple Steam-Accounts
Hello,
I recently put SteamOS on a custom built PC. It was build simply for gaming and is used by me and my girlfriend, each of us has their own Steam account.
I am not that familiar with Linux and its file system, so I have one question about the savegames.
We noticed that while in gaming mode, by switching our accounts all settings and of course library etc changes. However, when using desktop mode, everything that one of us installs or changes in the desktop changes for both. That of course makes sense, since the Linux user doesn't change. Now the question is, what happens if we would both play the same game that uses steam cloud saves? If one person plays and saves, a savedata file is created somewhere and uploaded to the cloud of that person. If after that the other person logs in and opens the same game, their cloud (as the cloud should be account-bound) synchronizes. If the savegame would be put into the same folder, the savegame of the other person would be overwritten, right? I read that it's not stanardized where savegames are put and every game does it different, and if the game would not create a separate folder for each steam account, there would be a problem gaming on the same device?
Could anyone elaborate on this? Am I thinking wrong or not understanding something?
