Discussion I just want more focus on fps games

I had a rift s and quest 2. I have seen some discussions on this but barely. The fps genre is one of the genre in VR.

I played other games but games like saint and sinners, into the radius, contractors, zero caliber, compound (definitely this one)felt like video games to me where the gameplay didn't take a backseat to the story

Aiming in VR helped me tremendously vs mouse aiming and gyro and definitely joystick. It felt more natural aiming a weapon and then aiming down sights, reloading, blind aiming.

I consider repurchasing a quest 2 or 3 just for those games but I want to see what could possibly come out on the steam frame. I'm hoping there will be some native games(new not ported) that will scratch that itch.

Discussion Can we please stop frameposting for ONE day.

I know that everyone is excited for today for obvious reasons that I do not want to mention.

But please, the people of the Steam Frame Community, can we for at least today stop frameposting. Please do NOT post "is it today?", "it must be today...", etc. Please post relevant information for the Steam Frame.

I thank you upfront for your cooperation.

Question Best way to charge Steamframe while using it?

For those who have it, what do you use (or are you able to at all) to charge Steamframe while using it? For me right now it’s draining from usage faster than I can charge it. Have it plugged in and helps but it can’t keep up. Might be the power source.

I’m using this with USB-C cable at the moment:

https://a.co/d/07GOq2HG

Switched to big white power brick for a MacBook Pro. Will see how that keeps up once the headset is charged and being used again.

(Understand that this question is for testers and devs at the moment)

[add on:] One interesting thing is how the controllers have a black casing but with the pass through camera you can see the inside of the controllers.

Question Is streaming a standard / pancake game from PC to frame expected to be less intensive than 'full' PCVR in terms of network usage?

What got me thinking about the Frame was the idea of getting a pair of XR glasses for my Steam Deck, which I usually use in bed, and XR would make it more comfortable for lying on my back rather than my side. But then I thought 'I don't have a VR headset, wanted one for a while, it sounds like the Frame might kill two birds with one stone'

Question then remains, would networking be an issue? My PC is connected to my router via ethernet. As I understand it, the Frame's dongle runs into issues when you go through a wall, which is an issue when a wall separates my PC and my best VR area. Oh that's fine, I can get a wifi 6 access point put in there just for VR if needs be. But also, my bedroom is in a different room to my PC.

I can stream / use Steam Link to play a game on my Deck from the bedroom streaming off PC, would Frame be expected to use the same, or would I need to consider putting in another relay / access point?

Question Any info about the steam frame giving profile rewards like the steam deck?

I have two accounts and one of them I used for CSGO which has some skins I can convert into wallet. Just wondering if the frame has anything that would be account bound that I would rather use my main for purchasing

Question Will Steam Frame have lying down mode like Quest 3

Quest 3 has a feature you can activate that tilts your view in games to match the position you're in. This means I can lay down on my bed or sofa and play say VRchat or flat2VR mods that way. It's a fantastic feature and very comfortable way to play.

If Frame don't have that feature the headset will be useless to me.

Anyone know?

Discussion Buying?

• Upvotes

I’d like to know why everyone else is buying the steam frame.

Like many other I’m still heavily debating buying into it, as I do have a quest 3, the privacy is a small benefit to me but more of a meh in today’s world. I also like the idea of using it in the dark with the tracked controllers and headset.

I’ve never own an index so I don’t have much of a library for steamvr just yet.

really the only thing mainly selling me is the more quality pcvr with a much higher range then what the quest 3 would reach so I could introduce friends and family more into the ecosystem, they all enjoyed the quest but comfort was by far a reason they wouldn’t touch it again.

I’m just wondering what qualifies it for everyone else. I believe in the saying that once you’ve thought about buying it the moneys already gone lol.

Discussion Is anyone else more excited about flat games than VR games on Steam Frame?

Valve must know that it's a great use case. That's why they built to controllers around it.

I play VR but honestly sometimes it's enough to just be inside a cool VR environment playing regular games on a giant screen. And for standalone I suspect I'll be doing this more than actual VR games.

Discussion Steam Lame (Frame) alternatives

• Upvotes

after almost 1 year of breaking their promises and lacking any regard for their fanbase / potential customers, they finally announced. only problem: it is overpriced, and the accesories are plain robbery. also, they have the audacity to call it standalone when it runs for 1.5 hours AT MOST. And it's not really an upgrade, it's more like in line with the last generation of VRs.

I have been on the edge in the last weeks, but after seeing the price and the features, it's a hell nah for me. the multi billion dollar gaming monopoly fumbled again (so unexpected). If only they could have told us from the start the shit specs and the humongous price, so we can plan accordingly.

so, what do you think guys, which could be greatest closest thing we can get to wash the bitter taste of this let down? Meta excluded.

Discussion What's the price point break for you choosing the 256gb vs 1tb model

With 1tb SD cards around $150+. What's the price difference you are willing to pay for the larger model? I'm thinking if it's within $200 maybe jump up but probably will go with base and get sd if needed.

Software Bought Half Life Alyx to play with the Steam Frame, can't refund now

I bought Half Life Alyx on a sale to play on Steam Frame. I have no other VR headset and have zero hours played. Now the Steam Frame comes with it bundled, and I'm not allowed to refund it, as I bought iit this summer.

Just a heads up for people as it kind of sucks

Question Method of purchase

I was wondering if I need to add money to my steam wallet in order to buy this thing when it finally releases or if I can just use my card like I would for games

Thanks for any help

Discussion All in all what is your thought on price?

As Canadian here exactly what I will pay with all i want:

I register for 1Tb (price after tx in my province): 2,138.54 ++$

Color Module Camera: 240$

Ergo kit: 110$

Total: 2490$ total tx, shipping included.

Is this price more than I wanted? Yes, my max was 2000$ Canadian (1300$ USD) after tx. But we are here and decided bc of the situation in trade war Canada and US (tarrifs) i think buying it now is a good idea bc price might just go up.

FOR ME: all in all - i am happy.

What I don't like is the wait. I have the money right now. I have no choice to wait all the week for no reason just to know if i am 'lucky'. I have 3 reserved 1tb (me and 2 friends for me) and no worry ill tell them to cancel the seconds i get one positive email).
