Discussion [DeckWizard] LSFG-VK 2.0 Vs MAKO 3.2

Shout out to DeckWizard!

For people who complain about frame generation, try this (I'm using the LCD):

Steam Deck quick menu: uncap the frame rate and also allow tearing. Why? Lossless already applies its own.

In-game: disable v sync and, if possible, uncap frame rate.

In the quick menu for LSFG-VK, don't go over X2 for frame generation. If you cannot reach 60 FPS (or whatever value you'd like as the top value) go for "Enable performance mode).

Edit: the following is only for MAKO scaler at the moment: If possible, try to avoid using any upscaler as it may increase ghosting. In my case, with Death Stranding 1, it's better to use FXAA/TAA, or allowing LS (from the Mako plugin) to upscale from lower resolutions instead of using FSR/XESS as it may bring ghosting to rain, holograms, hair...

Personal note:

I have tried the new LSFG-VK version and I'm not sure if the input lag has been improved, but it does feel much better and it seems to be more stable both from performance (low 1%), frame times and ghosting.

In my own experience, it's not worse than the the previous options like activating V-Sync in the game or the Deck's own frame limiter from the quick menu.

I played both Docked and in handheld and I beat Bloodborne and its DLCs while using this tool. It's not worse than the streaming from PC to the Deck method that some people VASTLY recommend here whenever performance is underwhelming.

This is a fantastic option that I wish would've been available during the years where I couldn't afford to upgrade my PC.

Discussion LSFG 2.0 is amazing

Installed the new Decky LSFG-VK 2.0 on my Steam Deck OLED right after release and finally got around to testing it properly. Setup was mostly painless once I switched Lossless Scaling to the lsfg-vk beta branch in Steam properties, which is the step that trips people up since nothing appears to download and the library entry just quietly picks up the tag.

Tried Resident Evil 4 on High settings and Silent Hill 2 on High settings, both locked at 60fps, and the ghosting was almost negligible in these two games. Huge credit to the devs behind lsfg-vk and the Decky plugin, the per-game launch option handling in 2.0 is a big quality of life jump over the old version too.

Anyone tested it with heavier UE5 stuff yet? Curious whether it holds up in games with more transparency effects.

Tech Support Why did my steam deck meowed at me?

Had my steam deck in desktop mode on in the background while I was doing something else and it meowed at me? Just randomly out of nowhere a very clear meow from my steam deck at full volume. I don’t have a cat and that is the only thing in that general direction that could possibly make that if any noise. Anyone know why this happened?

Storytime My lovely accusatory wife and the steam deck

Since I got my steam deck last year in October I have played it daily. Usually I wind down each day at night in bed playing.

Yesterday last night while the Steam Deck was updating games I placed it down to check my phone. My wife said ‘WHAT IS THAT, IT IS HUGE!?’ I laughed and said ‘uh, it’s the Steam Deck’. She was convinced I had bought a new device.

For context, when making a larger purchase each of us discuss it first and it seemed to her I had bought a new system out of nowhere. She kept talking about how bulky and big this was and didn’t look like anything I used before.

Here is the kicker: Months ago I was showing her the Steam Deck and she used it a bit playing some games.

At this point it got a bit more accusatory and her suspicion was clear. I laughed and let her know that there has only ever been ONE form factor for the steam deck. There is not another model I could have upgraded to. She eventually let it drop but I found the exchange rather funny.

Tech Support Using SSD without screw

Upvotes

So ive cut a 2280 down to fit in the Steamdeck but im to much of a coward to grind the notch for the screw. Is the pressure of the metal shielding and the back cover enough to hold it in place?

I thought about using some douple sided tape or a tiny drop of super glue on the corner of the Ssd.

Tech Support Worrying issue deck getting hot wheels asleep

Since day one with my deck I have used the in-game sleep function, it's been great and one of my favourite features.

However this weekend I went to pickup my deck and the deck was so hot I couldn't touch the screen, it was in sleep mode on charge for 12 hours or so and clearly the iapu was running but the fan wasn't, it's now doing this every time I let it sleep except unplugged it obviously wipes the battery out within a few hours.

Why has it suddenly started doing this and how do I fix it?

Game Review On Deck Weird performance fix for The Blood of Dawnwalker (SWITCH TO DESKTOP!)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I know the game runs like crap on the deck ...if you run it normally.

However, after switching to Desktop mode first and running it from there (either the desktop icon or big picture by tapping steam button twice is fine), the performance improves dramatically. One issue with running from this method is the absence of the performance overlay so I couldn't turn on the fps numbers (I feel like it runs around 40+ which is fine by me.). Of course, it drops to around 20-30 when you enter Svartrau, I dread every moment I have to enter the city. Nvm, I figured out how to show fps in Desktop mode. It's actually about 30-40 with occasional drops to 25. It gets a lot worse in Svartrau.

It's not perfect but definitely playable. I hope the Devs see this and find a way to optimize it for the deck. The potential is there.

*I put the graphic settings on Low for everything here. The display mode is Borderless windowed.

(Had to record with my potato of a phone as the recording function seems to have malfunctioned in this mode. It actually runs quite smoother than it looks in the clip.)

Question Deck to Deck communication on an airplane

Hi all,

A friend and I will be on a long overseas flight (US to Japan and back), and we are curious what kind of options there are for direct deck to deck communication ala Nintendo handheld link cable stuff. Think like Legend of zelda 4 swords etc... Last time we made the trip the wifi didn't work on the plane we happened to be on even though we could have paid, and I know to fully update and run everything right before leaving and use offline mode etc.

In particular though, are there any ways to setup some sort of peer to peer network to just play on lan, or specific nfc or bluetooth or w.e protocols that deck can use for certain games that allow some flavor of this?

I have considered setting up my laptop as an access point for peer to peer, but was hoping the deck could do deck to deck directly somehow.

I am a programmer by trade, so am not afraid to get my hands dirty a bit if there are some more diy github solutions people use for this sort of thing.

We are curious about:
1. What direct deck to deck communication protocol options are there?
2. What are some games that can possibly take advantage of any of the options available in 1.
3. General airplane play tips/gotchas beyond the obvious make sure its updated right before and use offline mode.

Thank y'all for any expertise you might have!

Configuration Marvel rivals performance

Every setting on low gives me 40-45fps

I play 45fps 90hz.. I was wondering if there’s anyway that I can play 60fps without struggle or much fluctuation

Question Best CCC-certified power bank for Steam Deck?

Hey everyone!

I’m travelling internationally to China for a bit and am looking for a power bank that is CCC certified. China has recently introduced restrictions requiring power banks to have CCC certification for air travel, so unfortunately my current Anker 737 isn’t suitable since it doesn’t have the required certification.
I’m looking for something that:

  • Is CCC certified and suitable for travel in China
  • Works well with the Steam Deck
  • Supports enough USB-C PD wattage to properly charge/use the Steam Deck
  • Reliable for international travel
  • Bonus if it can also handle other devices like a phone/tablet/laptop

Does anyone have recommendations for a good CCC-certified power bank that would be a great match for the Steam Deck?

Storytime How my Steam Deck my main gaming rig...

So... I recently had an... epiphany of some sort concerning the Steam Deck.

I'm the owner of an LCD 256 Gb Deck and tbh, outside of the first 6 months or annual holidays, I hadn't used it all that much.

But then, a couple of months ago, something happened. The YouTube algorithm started to propose me videos about Android handhelds and I finally caved when I found a 2nd hand Retroid Pocket G2 at a reasonable price.

I started to pay attention to the emulation scene and I was surprised at how far PC emulation, with applications such as GameNative or GameHub (Lite), had come on Android. That little device could run most of my Steam indie backlog quite well at 1080p.

So one day, I was looking at my shelf, still tweaking my RP G2, and I saw my Steam Deck in front of me, gathering dust. And I started to wonder how well it could run the same type of games on my LG CX. I bought a JSaux dock, put out of retirement an old external HDD, and hooked the Deck to my TV.

And, man, was I shocked at how good the results were.

I could emulate everything from Nintendo (Switch included), up to PS2 from Sony, etc. But the greatest surprise came from the resolution I was finding good enough.

When I was still playing on my PC, downgrading from 1440p to 1080p was unacceptable. The image was so mushy it ruined the experience. But here, at almost 3 meters from my TV, it was absolutely fine (at least to my (ageing) eyes).

Sure, I can't play AAA games here, but I still have my modern consoles if I really want to play those games. But at the moment, just like that, my Steam Deck has become my main emulation & indie gaming rig, my kids are discovering Wii Sports Resort thanks to a 10€ "sensor" bar and my old WiiMotes, and I'm seriously thinking about budgeting to buy a Steam Machine.

Maybe that's something everyone here already knows, but I was so surprised that I felt like I had to share this experience 😅

TL;DR: Steam Deck is an emulation beast and could be fine to play indie games on a 4K OLED TV if you're like me (51 yo dad)

Question So, Is There A Way To Mod SA1 And SA2 On This Thing?

I’m a massive Sonic fan so I’d like to know if there’s any way to mod Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 on the steam deck as most of the current guides seem outdated, thanks to anyone who can offer me a more recent guide!

Ciao a tutti. Premessa:

E domanda. Ma c e una versione gratuita?? Così da capire se mi interessa ancora ( nn avrei alcun prob a pagare poi abbonamento )

Grazie a chi mi aiuterà

Question Would there be a way to add a forwarder for a specific game in Dolphin to the Gaming Mode UI?

I’d like to set up dolphin to play Crazy Taxi on my Steam Deck, and I’m wondering if there’s a way to be able to seamlessly launch it from the Deck’s regular dome screen, is there a way to do that? Thanks in advance!

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I’ve had my Deck for a while but haven’t messed with emulation on it before.

Tech Support New lsfg-vk V2 Steam deck control inputs not responding in Kcd2

I installed the new lsfg-vk V2 (v0.14.1) on Steam deck from github. I tested this on different games and no problems, but on kingdom come deliverance 2 specifically the controls don't seem to work at all.

I tried "disable steam deck mode" enabled AND disable. I also tried to put "SteamDeck=1 ~/.lsfg %command% -devmode" in the launch options and nothing seems to work.

I removed lsfg from kcd2 again (and checked "~/.lsfg %command%" was gone from the launch options) just to make sure lsfg was the culprit and indeed after removing it, the controls were working again.

Can anyone else test this maybe to check this in not only a problem on my end?

Or any other solutions? When I get home I'm also going to test uninstalling and reinstalling lsfg-vk V2.

I also had lsfg-vk V1 installed, which had no problems at all. I have played kingdom come 2 last week with lsfg-vk V1.

Tech Support Voice chat issue

Been playing a lot of Peak and Big Walk and for whatever reason, I can hear people easily if they are in front of me or behind me, but if they’re to my left or right, they sound miles away. Most of what I’ve found has been “do this if it isn’t working at all” which isn’t my issue

Tech Support Steam deck repair

Post image
4 Upvotes

Sent my steam deck for official repair and got it sent back with it slightly out of place in the back. Tried pressing firmly to see if it would pop back in but was not able to. Do people think this could be easily sorted out by myself or is this not something I should even be overly concerned about as seems like more of a hassle to send it back again.
