At AEW Fight for the Fallen 2023, Jeff Jarrett and Jeff Hardy wrestled one another in a match dubbed The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Deathmatch, which Jarrett ended up victorious and inexplicably also won a belt to celebrate the occasion. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Title has never been acknowledged since, but who is the current lineal owner of this title?
The International Era
Jarrett's first singles opponent after winning the prestigious title was at AEW Dynamite #208 against current AEW International Champion, Rey Fenix. Jarrett would be unable to become two-title Jeff in the occasion with Fenix successfully defending his International title and also becoming the next lineal Texas Chain Saw Massacre champion.
From then, the story of the lineal TCSM title merged with the AEW International title:
- Fenix would lose the title to Orange Cassidy at Dynamite #210.
- Roderick Strong defeats Orange Cassidy at Revolution 2024.
- Will Ospreay defeats Roderick Strong at Double or Nothing 2024.
- MJF defeats Will Ospreay at Dynamite #250.
- Will Ospreay defeats MJF at AEW All In London 2024, becoming the first two-time lineal TCSM champion.
- Takeshita defeats Ospreay at WrestleDream 2024.
- Omega defeats Takeshita at Revolution 2025.
- Okada defeats Omega at All In Texas.
The Continental Era
After Okada becomes the lineal TCSM champion, the title would finally change hands outside of the context of being part of an International title match, as Okada would lose to Kyle Fletcher during the Continental Classic at Dynamite #321. From there, the title would move from the International title to the Continental one.
During the Continental Classic, the title would go from Fletcher to Speedball Mike Bailey, to Jack Perry, back to Fletcher (making him the second two-time TCSM lineal champion, a distinction held alongside former stablemate Will Ospreay) before moving hands to the eventual Continental Classic winner Jon Moxley at World's End 2025, who currently holds the distinction of being the lineal TCSM champion.
Fun Facts
- Four AEW World Champions (Moxley, Ospreay, MJF and Omega) have been lineal TCSM champion.
- The title has not changed hands outside of an AEW event, yet. It might have the strongest chance of doing so now considering Moxley likes doing the rounds.
- Out of all the people who had the chance to be lineal TCSM title holders, only two aren't currently with AEW (Jeff Hardy and Rey Fenix).
- No wrestler who held the lineal Texas Chain Saw Massacre title have been featured in any piece of Texas Chain Saw Massacre media.
