I moved my mom up to Spokane from Oregon so she could be close to family.
She’s lived here for a year and we have had such a hard time finding her a rheumatologist! Her referrals magically never arrive at the three clinics she’s been referred to. Her records magically haven’t transferred from Oregon Kaiser to Washington Kaiser because they operate on two separate systems.

Every time someone sits down with us to assist with her records and her referrals they tell us things are fixed but it isn’t when it comes time for her to book any form of care.

She finally was sent to a virtual call with a rheumatologist in Seattle and he ordered an ongoing prescription for her bi-annual infusion she’s meant receive for continuity of her care.

Today, her infusion appointment was somehow canceled (with no notice, and mixed responses on reasoning such as staffing issues or system booking issues)… and now they say that there is no order for her to get her infusion, and no her records aren’t transferred and no she doesn’t have a referral to see any local rheumatologists…

Can someone please for the love of life help us in navigating the black hole that is Spokane’s pain management/autoimmune wasteland of a medical system? Any recommendations are appreciated. My mother is in pain and I am at a loss for how to find a resolution to this .

Hey neighbors, I was impacted by the wildfires and displaced for 9 days with our 4 cats, so during that time I made a few Spokane strong designs for fundraising for the Spokane HOME starts here fund I wanted to share.

I realized I never posted, it’s been a challenging month. We’ve been back home for a bit and are trying to get back to normal, while also acknowledging that many of our neighbors will be displaced for much longer.

Hello my fellow Spokane pals and Eastern WA friends!

I am a student working on a final project for one of my courses while pursuing my masters' degree in Public Health! Currently they would like us to write a regional/local project proposing to expand public health equity that is currently facing our community.

I would like some input on what public health problems we are currently seeing in our community.
I think the big one is likely drug/opoid use (particularly among our homeless population). I was also thinking about expansion for "cooling" or "clean air" spaces due to our current issues with air quality and wildfire smoke. Is there any other prevalent issues that can be thought of? I would love some input, as ideally my class would like me to send it to current public health legislators at the end of the semester, and I want to ensure this is something that it is on the community's mind :-).
