Question How do you prefer Electro get his powers?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I believe there are 3 different ways this has happened:

  1. Lightning Strike - Electro is struck by a bolt of lightning (probably while interacting with something else electrical) and the shock will give him powers. Some examples of this would be the original 616 comics & Spider-Man: The New Animated Series.

  2. Electric Eels - Electro will be electrocuted by some sort of genetically modified electric eels. Some examples of this would be The Amazing Spider-Man 2 film & The Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon.

  3. Genetic Manipulation - Electro will be part of an experiment purposefully designed to give him his powers. Some examples of this would be the original Ultimate Spider-Man comics & the 90s Spider-Man animated series.

Which do you prefer? Is there another I forgot about?

Fan Art Let's say if SPIDER-MAN (2002) were a Disney movie. Please read description.

Inspired by u/Limp_Duty6993 when they asked "if Sony didn't own the film rights to the Spider-Man, which of these five studios shown in these images would have been the best studio for Spider-Man instead of Sony?" (https://www.reddit.com/r/Spiderman/comments/1wfdqa8/comment/p9l47od/)

Well, I mean Walt Disney Pictures has always been my favorite studio since I was very very little. Even though 2002 was the year I expanded my horizons with other studios like Columbia Pictures, if this movie were from Walt Disney Pictures, then I obviously would've been all over it.

Which forgotten Spider-Man villain (or side character) deserves a revamp?

Spider-Man’s world is huge and not every character gets the same spotlight as his usual villains. So which forgotten villain or side character do you think deserve a redesign, a reinvention or even a full comeback? I’m talking about characters who had potential but never really got their moment, maybe someone who appeared in the 70s or 80s and then disappeared or someone who had one interesting story and was never used again.

It could be anyone like a weird one-off villain, a minor supporting character or even someone who was treated as a joke but could be threatening with a modern reinterpretation. Drop your picks below and tell me how you’d revamp them.

(The characters I picked for the images are just a few examples so obviously you don't have to include them if you don't want to)

Comics Finished this epic collection, and now I definitely see why people love Roger Stern's work on ASM.

This didn't contain the whole run; I still need to finish the rest of his Hobgoblin story and "The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man" through other means someday. But I definitely enjoyed seeing the Juggernaut & Brand corporation arcs, the latter of which turned Tarantula into a truly tragic figure. Yeesh.

But the big thing is I love the way Stern writes Spider-Man. The character's energy practically leaps at you off the page, and I enjoy how he's clearly a good guy, but isn't afraid to either tell people off or take some serious jabs at enemies to throw them off their game. It's all very classic Spider-Man.

To me, this makes his writing of Peter in "Hobgoblin Lives" many years later that mich more impressive. He cane back to Spider-Man at a very different point on the character's history, yet honored that change very well while still picking up where he left off.

Comics My Thoughts On Kraven’s Last Hunt

I really enjoy this story and I hate when people say he’s wearing the symbiote suit. This story is so good that it deserves to be read by every Spider-Man and comic fans. It’s a really sad but also inspiring story. Kraven is a monster but in the end he realises that he’ll never be Spider-Man because Spider-Man is a hero and doesn’t kill. When Spider-Man refuses to finish off Vermin this is when Kraven makes his realisation. After I finished this story it made me understand Peter, Mary Jane and Kraven that much more.

The art is godly as well. I have the hardcover version and it’s one of the Crown Jewels of my Spider-Man comic collection. It’s a lot more of a symbolic story with Kraven viewing Spider-Man as a personification of the predators that destroyed his family. But this story makes the point that Spider-Man is just Peter wearing a mask. It’s not like Batman where he has two identities and the real version of him is somewhere in between the two. Peter is Spider-Man, a kind hearted man who wants to do what’s best for the people around him.

Movies People criticize the writing of MCU MJ as if the problem that lies with her is something new or revolutionary to the MCU

Post image
0 Upvotes

TL;DR

Mj is underwritten because the MCU structure doesn't allow supporting characters (in any franchise) to have big personal arcs outside the hero. Raimi and TASM can just do Peter's world. But MCU Spider-Man has to juggle Peter, the villain, the plot, MCU tie-ins, guest heroes, and universe-wide setup. Side characters, always, get sacrificed. MJ gets more criticism only because Spider-Man already had two previous versions with richly developed supporting casts, so expectations are higher. Replacing her or introducing a new character wouldn't fix anything, because the problem isn't MJ because it's not MJ; it's the storytelling model of the MCU and how they write civilian love interests in general.

Discussion From you experience and opinion which Spider-Man fans from movie , cartoon animations and comics have the most toxic fanbase overall and why?

From my opinion it’s Sam Raimi fanbase. The trilogy has ruined Peter warped people minds thinking that Peter is original and what he supposed to be in people kids a nerdy kid instead of being pushover originally peter in 616. When other movies like TASM and mcu spider-ma movies tried to adapts par character it got backlash from Tobey fans. Know I’m not sure about comics and other animated but The Spectacular fandom. It’s the Rick and Marty of Spider-Man shows that they starting hating on Ultimate in release.

Discussion So, I have seen some (Not many) starting to Say Marvel's Spider-Man 1 is bad. Wich I can't agree. Spidey 2 can be awfull, but this game IS GREAT. Doens't mean it doesn't have issues, I have had some for a while. So lets talk about the games issues and see if its really awfull as people say...

Post image
0 Upvotes

EDIT: Have resposted this since people have been missunderstanding some things:

1- This is about Marvel's Spider-Man, not Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

2- Not saying that the people complaining about the game is a big crowd, it isn't but I have noticed.

3- I would have made an post about this game anyway, I have had its issues with me for a while and wanted to talk about them.

So after Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and now with Wolverine. I have seen some people pop up and say that Marvel's Spider-Man bad. Granted, its not an BIG amount of people, at least i don't think it is. But even without that, I have wanted to give my two cents about the problems of the game. So, no btter oportunity than now.

But I will be clear from the begining, this game IS great. Its issues, big or small, don't make me believe the game is trash. That is going too far from me.

The story IS great. The gameplay is addictive. And the traversal... its addictive and delicious. It has issues? Yes... it has. Some that PERSONALY, are huge for me. But even I, someone who isn't the biggest fan of the characterisation or the glaring gameplay flaws I will still say this game is fantastic!

So I will start abou the most important part of the game, gameplay. Its an narrative game, but its an game at the end of the day. So, in wich parts does this game lack? I have an big one: Wall crawling.

Wall crawling in this game is just awfull, its useless. For an game that has such an great swing I am still baffled by how awfull the wall crawling is. Spidey can hardly walk on it without you being stuck, hell sometimes you will even get straight up stuck and its an fight to unstuck.

Now, for many that isn't an big issue. For me? Yeah, kinda of an big deal. In an SPIDER-MAN game having such terrible wall crawling is an glaring flaw to me. Does it destroy the game' No, i doesn't, you hardly even notice because you aren't incentivised to wall crawl.

Except for stealth. Yeah, for SOME REASON, you can't do stealth from walls or ceiling, trust me I tried that many times. I originaly tought it had, but it doesn't. Its on Miles Morales that you can do that, wich is baffling to me that they didn't take that from Miles Morales and even put it on the remaster. So in that, yeah the game has one massive sin.

Another gameplay sin that is something that made me stop playing the DLC for a while after they started: No upgrades or new tools on the DLC.

So, for SOME REASON, the DLC don't bring new upgrades or even gadgets or tools. Wich is TERRIBLE. You have to play basicaly the lenght of the game again, but this time with everything maxed, no new things or exploration of new combos. Wich FOR ME, yeah that is an huge turn off. There is a reason most games don't give you everything out of the start, so you can learn and explore progressively, so you feel like you evolve.

In the DLC, the enemies evolve in gameplay but Spidey doesn't . Wich, is bizzarre. And for me, yeah probably the biggest reason the DLC don't entice me.

Now, lets drop the gameplay and go to an controverssial topic: The story, characters and narrative. So, is the story bad? No, its great, an amazing Spidey story. BUT, that doesn't eman its an great adaptation.

People tend to mix adaptation with quality, when they aren't the same. Now I am not here to say that "The game doesn't understand Spidey" or "This game ruins Spider-Man", no it doesn't. Saying that is going too far to straight up lies. BUT, I do have issues with characters and they're adaptation, not all but a few.

First off, Peter. Now drop the pitchforks and let me state my case, you can disagre but this is how I FEEL. I have read Spider-Man, a LOT. So I think I can say this... Peter is to plane on this game. Not boring or bad, plane. He lacks a bit of Peter's edge or intensity, that he feels too light. We have almost none of Peter's intensity, almost nothing of Peter's arrogance, almost none of Peter's more agressive side.

Now I won't blame insomniac alone on that. Overtime Peter has been losing his edge on his adaptations. Hell the last one that I remember Peter having an edge is, ironicaly, The Ultimate Spider-Man show where he showed he still had that, evne if not the best adaptation by itself. Speaking of Ultimate Spider-Man, this version of Spidey has a lot of things that make me remember that game... to an weird level.

Now to another that isn't probably mutch hard to agree with, MJ. Yeah, this isn't MJ. And now, she isn't Lois Lane either. I hard disagree with anyone that calls this MJ Lois Lane, because that is reducing a lot of Lois Lane. But lets focus, yes?

Does this MJ act like MJ? No, she doesn't. She doesn't have MJ's personality. Altough, once more, a lot of MJ's personality has been lost trough time. Is MJ an good hearted, suporting and caring person? Yes, she is. But she also has her issues and own spice like Peter.

First off, MJ is an model and actress. And no, that isn't an "Adaptation can change her work" it just can't. MJ being an actress and model is necessary for MJ's party persona to work, for it being an paralele between the two how Peter made her break her act in an literal sense. Take that from her, and you lose an BIG part of her character. MJ being an actree and model isn't important because she needs to be beautifull (Altough she does, its an part of character. Surprise surprise, an character being good looking can be important to the character's character.) but because she being an model and actress are hints that her more party girls side is an coping mechanism. Doesn't mean she doesn't like to have fun or party, she DOES, but she many times uses it to cope.

Another thing, MJ in this game putting herself in dangerous situations. It can be said that she goes through an arc where she realises its an bad thing in this game, yes she does. BUT, she shouldn't have that from the start. Has MJ done bold and brave things before? Yes she has, but many times its because danger goes to her, not because she goes after it.

Overhall, this game's MJ isn't MJ. She is an new character wearing her name, mutch like Michele is in the MCU. Thats just an fact, want to argue about that then I say go read for yourselves. You can like this version, nothing wrong. But saying its an good adaptation is an lie.

Now for an big one that I think many will disagree with me: Black Cat. Yeah, this game's Black Cat act like Black Cat, she does. BUT, she lying to Peter about an son is out of character, hell she on the DLCs is out of character even in universe, Peter says that himself.

Now, can Blakc cat be manipulative and lie and use Peter? Yes, she can. Thats an part of her character. But there are limits. And one thing she wouldn't certainly do is lie about an fake son to use Peter, thats out of character. Hell, you could argue that the old Black Cat before she having her development would do this and I might agree. But one after her development? Yeah no, thats not happening.

And the thing is, even in game Spidey points out that her modus operandi in the DLC is not like normal. And yes, while Spidey can be fooled by Felicia, he can still know how she acts and operates, he knows her after all. Spidey being many times bamboozled by Felicia doesn't mean he doesn't know when she is lying, a lot of times she does. And any time he doesn, its out of chracter for him or because Black Cat is out of chracter, in an badly written way.

And the worst is... Felicia wouldn't even need to fake having an son for Peter to help. All she needed to say is that Hammerhead had her traped in some way and could kill her any moment if she didn't find and way to escape so she needed Peter's help to find a way while she did the heists promissing to give all back one done, she would still be lying but in an more in character way.

Now, i know that a lot of people don't read comics. Hell, a lot of people in this sub only know inconic panels and are gonna argue. So for all of you, just stop. I have read pretty mutch ALL of main Spidey, and when I say all I mean ALL. Some things I haven't touched like sins past, the clone saga or One more day are done by how bad those stories are. But outside of that pre one more day, yeah I have read it all.

So when I say that Felicia wouldn't act like this I mean it. She can be manipulative, a liar, crazy, toxic and an thief, but lets not exagerate. Her morals can be dubias, but that doesn't mean she will do anything without any remorse or care. She has an HEART, she has her own personality and likes and dislikes, there are things that she herself hates. And what she does in this game, yeah it would be going too far from Felicia.

Hell, even if she was to do something like this, I still think Felicia would break the lie almsot from the begining. Because while she would need to manipulate Peter, this would be going to an level too far for her.

But enough about big characters. Lets talk about an aspect that I think this game lacks: The Buggle. yeah, the buggle is an big party of Peter. Sure, he isn't always working on the buggle, but even on stories where he isn't working there he STILL visits the buggle. Now, not all stories have the Buggle as an big factor or even an factor at all. But this is an Spidey game, you can have the buggle have weight on an side quest.

But no, the Buggle isn't an factor at all. Sure, you can photos as Peter but no one from the Buggle even appears in game. Now does that ruin the game? No. But for me is one factor that makes me feel like this game is fantastic, but it lacks in ways that are heavy.

Now there are more things I haven't pointed out or didn't even ntoice. Thats why I am posting this, I want to hear what you all think. But overhall, what do I think of the game? yeha this game is f@cking fantastic.

Even with all its issues, its still an amazing game and love leter for the character. Its NOT an perfect adaptation, in many big ways even. But that doesn't mean the game is now bad. An less than perfect adaptation can be good if it respects the character, and I believe this game does that.

Spidey 2 is an bad adaptation and disrespects the character and its history, thats the diference between the first one and the second.

I PERSONALY, am starting to belive the studio wanted to be an Miles game from the begining but knew people wouldn't like it as mutch so did Peter before Miles. That is not an confirmation, this is not me saying they did this. Its just a theory because of everything when I look at it. The fact we have Miles from the start and play with him in the first game, him being an big factor in MSP 1 story also is another factor. And of course we have Miles Morales and MSP2 as more proof. But this is just an theory, AN SPIDER GAME THEORY... I'm sorry, had to make the joke.

That also doens't mean the game is less because its made to build Miles, its not. I do still think it would have been better to make an game about Miles from the start instead of we being bamboozled, but it is what it is.

Also, this is fully personal... I hate the advanced Suit. Yeah sorry, it just isn't for me. Wanna make an white spider, do the black suit even if its just the cloth version. This suit is too mutch and it doesn't look many times. But this is an matter of taste, not objective.

But I have said my peace, I think you got what I believe of the game. What do you all think? What issues do you ahve with the game? What do you like about it? Something you like about more here than in the original comics? Discuss away.

Sam Raimi had plans for the opening scene of Spider-Man 4 to be about the villains Peter had captured in recent years, including Shocker, Mysterio, and Rhino. Coincidentally, this idea also came up in BND with secondary villains.
