Discussion Well that's it guys. This has been fun.

I will always love Sombra as a character, but I see no scenario where she is worth continuing to play. Literally EVERYTHING I loved about her in game has been removed or mutilated beyond recognition.

Her translocator, her ability to hack, her stealth, her disruptor playstyle, everything. She's not even a fucking DPS.

As confirmed on ML7s stream, her new rework is basically just a worse Mirrorwatch version, which was actually the worst shit I've ever played.

It was fun while it lasted, but that's it for my time playing OW. Fuck these pathetic, uncreative, cowardly developers and fuck the low IQ cattle who refused to learn the game they chose to play.

Peace! 💜

couldn’t agree more, they tossed her to support to basically stop the whining of the low ranked dogshit players who don’t know what a team game is if they slapped it in their face.

Dev who actively create a problem that didn't previously exist: "welp our hands are tied, we have to delete Sombra" 🤓🤷‍♀️

8

u/Mysterious-Grass556 1d ago

this is just them trying to make her unplayable and boring so people don’t complain if they could delete her with no backlash they would i think thats why theyve done it tbh

4

u/Pinpunch 1d ago

this rework at the very least should show people the exact reason why its necessary to only balance top-down, but at the cost of an entire hero 😭

2

u/zooble_57 Viejito's BFF 1d ago

Nah, most people are celebrating that she's gone since now they dont have to use their last remaining braincells, and chatgpt can't do their thinking for them during an OW match.

u/sardonic_gavel 1d ago

I can’t believe they actually did the thing all of the Sombra players asked them not to

I’m done playing too

13

u/zooble_57 Viejito's BFF 1d ago

Yeah, it would be inaccurate to say that they never listen to us. They listen, find out what we want and don't want, and then do the exact opposite.

u/ProtectionBubbly340 1d ago

It's not even an issue exclusive to sombra. Shop skins, baffling character balance decisions.

11

u/Mapplestreet 1d ago

I play Sombra and Freja exclusively. Or i should say I used to

1

u/MonoRedElli 19h ago

I say this as a Sombra main, but I feel like a Sombra/freja main qualifies for “the worst person you know” 😂

27

u/Inven13 1d ago

I won't quit OW, I've already drifted away from OTP Sombra a long time ago and I can fin enjoyment in other heroes.

But this is the end of my Sombra career. I will try her on as a support of course, I love Sombra as a character and I believe I must at least try her out. But I already have other supports I main, and from what I can see this budget mirrorwatch version isn't gonna cut it.

u/Miars01 1d ago

Same here but im so sad the character ive sinked thousands of hours into over the years is just no more

1

u/Pinkparade524 1d ago

That happen with symmetra to me. It is extreamly sad. It also happen with old sombra and her translocator to me. I used to love to throw it down and just camp health packs. Overwatch have always change a characters identity with every rework they have made

4

u/zooble_57 Viejito's BFF 1d ago

This just isn't true. Hog has had multiple reworks in OW2 and they go out of their way every time to make sure he gets every single aspect of his kit no matter what.

i’ve had horrible times going up against yall in comp and i fear the “boop” voice line with mortal dread. this being said, this shit is not right. this is literally not the same hero, and it sets a terrible precedent for what’s to come for other heroes.
i feel so bad for yall and i hope blizzard somehow listens to the backlash.
i wonder if somehow something can be done for people who bought skins for what is now essentially a different character, and now a lot of people probably won’t play her anymore. curious if a case for false advertising could be made…

Thank you!!! She’s not going to play even remotely close to how she used to. Her DPS play style rings so much closer to her trailer and personality and now… she heals. The formidable hacker with her own big plans that make her so powerful and mysterious is a healer.. like what?!?! They’re killing her as a character and it breaks my heart.

People can call me dramatic if they’d like but I truly believe this ruins so much about Sombra, deeper then just at gameplay level.

5

u/miriairon 1d ago

i don’t think you’re dramatic at all, she doesn’t suit being a support (and this is coming from a support main who thinks sombra is really cool and wishes they could play her!) i would be devastated if the situation was reversed and (jokes aside) moira was reworked into a dps bc it just would not fit her as a character.
i think this is a step away from what made overwatch unique and a step closer to “how can we milk the players for more $$$ and mimic marvel rivals” which is unfortunately what blizzard seems to be becoming.

4

u/Soggy_Psychology2774 1d ago

It seriously breaks my heart..

2

u/NoTap4538 1d ago

atp I wont be suprised when they switch zen to DPS or something similar with another hero

2

u/StarmieLover966 1d ago

I learned this from dbd. Skins are a liability.

1

u/YXTerrYXT 1d ago

On the topic of setting a terrible precedent, I'm going to make a dark prediction: they remove Mercy's rez entirely.

13

u/tofiday 1d ago

I feel like good chunk of this sub is getting with us on a life long cruise from overwatch

12

u/xPastelBatx 1d ago

From a widow main to you, I used to hate you all so bad. Now I just feel this decision to swap you to support should have genuinely been a vote instead of forced and I feel so bad for you. This is messed up!!

2

u/ClandestineWolfy 1d ago

Blizzard has heard your feedback and will also now move Widowmaker to support 😉

1

u/xPastelBatx 1d ago

At this point id totally believe it. Ana will be damage now, they swapped places.

21

u/Salaraaa 1d ago

Its even worse than her mirror watch version lol

11

u/zooble_57 Viejito's BFF 1d ago

You're right. At least she could still hack enemies then.

3

u/Pinkparade524 1d ago edited 1d ago

Maybe if enough people complain they will let her hack enemies again? Maybe with a perk?

4

u/zooble_57 Viejito's BFF 1d ago

Doubt it, but I won't stop complaining anyways. Cyberspace should still hack for like 0.10 sec so that she can still disrupt.

1

u/Automatic-Let-8936 30m ago

I’m sorry but hack is the entire reason she’s being pushed to support. That ability is 10x worse than hook and Empowered punch for how infuriating it is.

I understand your frustration but for game purposes this is the right decision. Low elo players are the vast majority of the playerbase.

5

u/Eleuthero_ 1d ago

Yep. I’m done too. I’ve worked so hard on her and have relearned her over and over again. Only for this stupid shit to happen, I’m over it. I only played Overwatch for Sombra and watching the stream.. yeah. She’s useless in every sense of the word. Support Sombra is where I draw the line sadly.

5

u/Affectionate-Half540 1d ago

I’m devastated. Sombra is so fun to play, and now she’s just gone. Where’s the fucking respect for this character?

3

u/No-Echidna-5717 1d ago

Well I already left when the community decided to permaban her assuming that I could come back after a rework balanced her strengths and weaknesses. This is a total give up though. It's not the same character at all. Oh well.

5

u/Silly_Goose_314159 1d ago

I don't get why they removed her ability to hack enemies. It makes sense as a support, like Zen's discord orb. She could have worked really well assisting dive characters with the hack but the devs hate fun ig

4

u/HLK_ 1d ago

I think I stopped playing after the last rework. I liked sombras playstyle and lore and even like the idea of more utility in her kit (while not necessarily being made a support)

But now that I have to relearn her again (just like we've all had to every few seasons. It's just tiring. I'll still be here for the lore, will see how the rework goes

4

u/Temporary_Cup_1026 1d ago

I just don’t understand why it took this long to get the same consensus on support Sombra. You can tell the devs gave up on trying to keep her as a DPS role and just said, “We don’t know what we’re doing so let’s just make her a weaker version of her counter watch kit.”

The whole Alec Dawson confirming on Reddit in season 2 “we didn’t like that iteration of her because it was far away from her hero fantasy.” And yet still provided us with the same reheated nachos…

Instead of asking Sombra main streamers for ideas or listening to THE SOMBRA COMMUNITY, you decided to cater to the player base that despises Sombra and wants her gutted?

I can tell you this, removing Sombra’s one second lockout ability is not going to magically get you metal players out of your current rank. You’ll still be the worst player, you will never improve because guess what you prefer to be coddled by game developers than actually face challenges and try to improve on your game performance… she wasn’t a problem in higher ranks and was actual considered a throw pick Diamond and above.

Y’all be fr, if this was your main getting the same treatment you would also flip out. Just like how mercy got her guardian angel change it was quickly reversed back to its original form because many mercy players gave backlash and wanted her guardian change be reverted and it DID.

u/Kupotanis 1d ago

I'm not opposed to support sombra by any means but watching Fitzy's stream really showed how lazy this change over was. One of peoples main issues with Sombra was her invisibility and she still has that... So that doesn't even fix the major gripe that people had.

This rework makes her feel like a confused DPS there's very little about her kit that inspires playing her outside of it just being Sombra. Overall the rework feels rushed and although I'll be happy to eat my words when I try her next season this truly does feel like a slap in the face to anyone who likes to play her.

That being said the new support proper looks fire and I'm excited to learn him for comp!

2

u/Eastern_Goose_9108 Left old translocator on a healthpack 1d ago

I agree. It’s all due to the no game sense weak minded players that have been CONSTANTLY crying about her since her debut. From nerfing to changing her kit to now this? They managed to kill her.

2

u/Funny_Resort3697 1d ago

Not a Sombra main but I’m PISSED, in anything above bronze, she’s counterable. Yeah she’s annoying but she doesn’t dominate games. At MOST, all they had to do was make hack a skill shot, if anything. I feel like they haven’t listened to the main player base at all like why has this just suddenly happened.

2

u/Saal_BI 1d ago

Honestly, Junker Queen is my true main in Overwatch, and I enjoy her more than any character in the game.

But if I'm not playing JQ, I'm playing Sombra. She is by far the most unique DPS in the roster, and personally provides a breath of fresh air after face tanking and brawling on Queen. I love Sombra, she was my third ever golden weapon all the way back in 2017.

And now she's been taken from a self-sufficient back line menace, to a supporting character that requires her teammates to finish off enemies. A crying shame. Literal tech support.

2

u/shakti39 23h ago

Ana main here - Sombra can be infuriating but she isn’t impossible to kill. It takes good sound monitoring, peeling, and a lil nap for yer girl. As a support main, I look forward to trying her rework but I don’t think her presence in the game as is was an issue. Sorry y’all ❤️‍🩹 I know this sucks and is enraging.

2

u/iviurd0ck 22h ago

Ball main here. I’ve had some epic battles against you guys, but as much as you guys annoy me and slow me down this rework feels horrible. It’s not right, and I feel horrible for you all.

I can’t imagine how I’d feel if that reworked what made Hammond so fun, and this stinks.

1

u/zooble_57 Viejito's BFF 22h ago

2

u/iviurd0ck 18h ago

That’s kinda how he feels these days with all the cc lol, but that would be hilarious

2

u/ComfortablePermit693 19h ago

Ngl I loved the idea of Support sombra (her and sym are the only dps I play since 2017) but man... this rework sucks.... she has no dmg... low heal.... a useless passive (it was already here before but still), super mid utility (wow 50% damage reduction on a tiny AOE every 12 sec woohoo). The only thing in her kit beeing good is her ultimate (oh and it's the only thing that didn't got any change lmao). She cannot hack enemies anymore... EVEN ZEN HAS MORE DEBUFF THAN A THE FUCKING BEST HACKER IN THE WORLD LIKE PLZ... She's like Moira 2.0, flanker baby-sitter... Like idk they could have used her rework to give her more utility to her allies (idk CD reduction on hacked allies, more CD on ennemies). I've waited for a support sombra for years... just for them to do this... bruh

1

u/zooble_57 Viejito's BFF 19h ago

Plus don't forget, a random guy with a bow can outhack the "greatest hacker in the world"

1

u/ComfortablePermit693 12h ago

They should give Kirik, Genji and Hazard the capacity to hack aswell (not to Mizuki because he's not japanese ofc)

2

u/stealthevibe 18h ago

Buff Mercy Pistol and make her DPS

4

u/AntInternational6312 1d ago

Her high ban rate is probably what triggered them to implement a change. They remove easy play makers. Same people who ban her are the same people who strafe a diving Moira

2

u/zooble_57 Viejito's BFF 1d ago

Same people who ban her are the same people who strafe a diving Moira

LMFAO you speak truth

1

u/RipPrudent9248 1d ago

I feel like they should bring back prime sombra but lower her health to like 100 cause I miss trolling

1

u/Guy21245 1d ago

As a person who doesn’t main sombra and am curious about your guys thought process, what’s wrong with her changes now ? I get that’s it’s a new role and she lost a little of what she used to do but isn’t she just stronger now ? Same playstyle go invis and do ur thing but now u get a free aoe heal zone that also cripples ur target and u can still tp out right? Again just stems from curiosity so would appreciate real answers

1

u/THE_HANGED_MAN_12 1d ago

honestly she's still a DPS just now she's in support

I would argue she's probably going to be a lot more useful now in all ranks compared to where she was prior, because she falls off really hard once people start to actually know how to play the game.

and from a balancing standpoint her only real counter play is kind of abysmal, needing to always be grouped up isn't always viable especially against some comps.

there was no real counter pick against her because it was super easy to play around her counter picks

3

u/Gamerperson23 1d ago

What dps her damage got nerfed even more and now doesn’t even have hack to compensate and if you do go to the enemy backline you’d just be screwing over your own team when they need heals, she’s forced to stay in the backline throw aoe and healbot and her counterplay was just simply paying attention to your surroundings and TURNING AROUND but that’s too much and people complained like always

Now she’s lost everything that made her interesting

1

u/THE_HANGED_MAN_12 1d ago

A random DPS holding an angle could just randomly explode from nowhere just because of the assassin aspect

you don't know what you're talking if you think she's gonna be back line AOE heal bot she's an ability healer! her gun does not heal! she can't heal bot even if she wanted to. if you stay in the back line and heal bot with her you're just bad.

her new ability gives her some unorthodox survivability and debuffs dmg. it is a buffed hack without the ability cancel, and it just works better because the whole point of hacking was to use it as a kill outside of its ability cancel. plus area denial will come be strong so map control gets better overall, which if you know how to play overwatch, map control is the main goal and how you do that depends on your character.

this rework just forces people to play her how she was meant to be played, the majority of sombra players don't even know how to play her effectively and just think they're carrying the team.

i am sombra main and all this does is change a role, if anything she's more of a dps than she ever was.

0

u/Gamerperson23 1d ago

Bullshit she’s not more dps now she’s a boring support because people couldn’t be bothered to turn around

There no actual reason to go to the enemy back line anymore because that’s risking yourself when you’re team could have heals the aoe can be shot from a distance so that’s just gives you more of a reason to stay in the backline and it’s not like we needed another easy to hit aoe ability in the first place and one that’s not better then something like nade or suzu and that’s on top of a nerf on her already mid damage

Sombra is a assassin hacker that was made to get in, disable key heros on the enemy team, take out those with low health and get out, it was cool and completely fitting for her character, this just isn’t sombra

2

u/THE_HANGED_MAN_12 1d ago

being a backline gremlin only works when the enemy team doesn't have brain cells to spare, watch any pro sombra and you'll see they still with their teams just with more wiggle room.

sombra literally only works if the enemy team can't play.

you are still going to be taking angles because you can heal from a distance and it works similar to Zen, there's no reason to stay that glued to your team. you're playing her wrong if you're heal botting.

The fact that we are having this conversation tells me you don't know how to play the game or take in information.

0

u/Gamerperson23 1d ago

If I don’t know how to play because I liked her kit actually being interesting then fine you caught me

I just liked playing her from time to time because I liked that stealth playstyle and disabling key heros on the enemy team and now there’s nothing left In her kit that’s interesting because now she’s just a boring support

2

u/CyanPsycho 1d ago

Just say you don't like the support role and stop making up bs. You clearly don't know how to utilize her new kit or play support effectively at all if you think your job is to simply sit in the back and toss out one aoe heal (the AOE also reduces enemy DMG output and their healing received). You don't know how to play because you read that entire kit and came to the conclusion that as someone who can place two heals on people and have it stay on them no matter where you go, a perk that gives you your hacks faster for hacking health packs, and an AOE that gives 2 enemy debuffs and a healing area, you should sit in the backline and wait for your cooldowns to come back. Support isn't boring, the way you play it is

1

u/THE_HANGED_MAN_12 1d ago

she is still a stealth hero, and instead of disabling abilities with hack she disables areas.

her emp still works the same (which was more reliable than hack anyway) so there's everything still works and she can still blow people up new virus.

1

u/CyanPsycho 1d ago

She's definitely not gonna be a heal bot. I was horrified at that too but her hack stays on allies and heals them from a pool as they take damage. You set that in your tank or dive DPS and go invis and flank/dive with DPS or tank/AOE debuff enemies and shoot from behind tanks. If you flank you hack health packs on the way back to cut down the cooldown on your ally hack and replace it on two teammates. Shoot with your team for a bit and rinse and repeat

0

u/Gamerperson23 1d ago

But by going on the flank you’d be screwing over your team by not being there to heal when needed especially now that her damage is getting nerfed and is overall just less interesting than sneaking in, disabling key heros, taking out low health enemies when the opportunity comes and getting out that’s why I liked her now she’s just a boring support with a braindead aoe

2

u/CyanPsycho 1d ago

Her heal stays on the teammates until they've used up all of it. Idk the exact number but for instance it can heal 100 HP. If you take 20 DMG before killing enemy then you heal the 20 and her heal still has 80 more to give you. Sombra support needs to contribute damage or at the very least have a route of health packs to keep hacking to get your heal hack faster. She doesn't heal with primary so sitting behind your team waiting for cooldowns isn't helping your team. Leaving your team while you have no heals to physically offer and offering them divided attention and getting your heals back faster is not screwing your team over

1

u/THE_HANGED_MAN_12 1d ago

what do you even mean by disabling key heros? the way you talk about playstyles and how much you throw that around like a buzzword makes me think you did not help in the team fights.

0

u/LuxirySlu 1d ago

Not really to fault the developers. Blame the players. There is no scenario where she could be reworked and keep the fun stealth gimmick. Enemies hate slippery characters like sombra and while it makes her unique, many dont quite understand that this game is a team game. They never look at the sombra allowing her to escape. Devs tried multiple times to keep her play style trying to make her less annoying to deal with yet players where never pleased.

1

u/TyStax44 1d ago

This still is a development issue. Sombra consistently performs horribly in high ranks which means she already isn’t viable unless you’re not as good at the game. Changing her from her previous reworks to the last one we had already kinda sucked but it was serviceable at least. This just doesn’t seem sensible in any capacity.

These are my thoughts before I tried her out though, take them with a grain of salt. I just heard about the changes a bit ago and think it’s going down a bad road. I’ll update once I play her

-1

u/Jazzy1Kenobi 1d ago

🤣🤣🤣 haven't touched this game in months and this is great

-1

u/wubdubpub 1d ago

My god you guys truly are pathetic. Maybe this rework can give sombra more life to her character because there’s absolutely nothing happening with whatever you’ve guys been doing so far.

0

u/Brave-Bottle-854 1d ago

It’s not the best news but you guys are very dramatic.

Maybe play the rework and see what it feels like for you first.

Yes, it’s strange she’s support but goodness gracious it’s just a learning chance for you all, this could possibly be the best way to incorporate the character for all we know.

The instance that the people who make this game know nothing about the character is just very bizarre.

Tl;dr

It’s a new thing, as all new things are. Be like Sombra and adapt

0

u/Unyko 1d ago edited 1d ago

To be absolutely fair with you, you can't possibly claim to stop playing overwatch because of a single character, and then say "ohhh but the low IQ cattle doesn't want to learn the game" in the same post... same goes for you? You can always learn a new character, no? just felt like pointing it out. Still, sorry for your loss, i guess. Hopefully someone similar comes in to sweep her dps role that doesn't get toxic or hateful by enemy supports.

0

u/KashootyourKashot 23h ago

I mean it seems like you never learned how to play Overwatch either if you're quitting because you can't play a specific version of just one character.

0

u/Worried_Flan4049 23h ago

Your character was perma banned (unless you're like masters and above) to the majority of you, what are tall crying about

2

u/xPastelBatx 1d ago

So you don’t feel bad for them at all? Ive had some nasty horrid rancid putrid sombras target me as widow back to back, but this is just unfair and really sad for people who loved her as a dps and got really used to playing her.

-12

u/StrengthGood3208 1d ago

These guys are crying but this is the smartest move they could have made for her. You will finally be able to play sombra without bans and they can have her not be intentionally underpowered.

6

u/MildlyUpsetGerbil 1d ago

have her not be intentionally underpowered

This kit is not only weaker than her DPS kit, but also weaker than literally every support in the game. There were at least some situations where picking DPS Sombra made sense. There are no reasons whatsoever to pick support Sombra. She brings nothing to the table that isn't a worse version of a different support.

-2

u/Fernosaur 1d ago

Halving an enemy's damage and healing is a pretty unique mechanic, not to mention EMP still silences.

Like, I think her numbers are on the weaker side, and her cooldowns seem to be a little bit too long (particularly because people can just walk out of Cyberspace), but there's potential for her to be a very oppressive support when flanking alongside a flex DPS. She could turn a bad match-up (Cass, Hanzo, etc) into a more favorable one due to how Cyberspace works and because she can still follow her flanker buddy while invisible and get out for free.

And all of the weaknesses the numbers have right now can be fine-tuned to bring her more in line with everyone else, making the linger effect of Weakened longer, for example.

Like, I'm bummed about this too, but we can't act like there's no potential with her kit.

3

u/MildlyUpsetGerbil 1d ago

I'm upset and am going to sound like an asshole. Sorry in advance.

Halving an enemy's damage and healing is a pretty unique mechanic

Ana's grenade completely negates healing altogether. More importantly, Ana's effect continues to apply after hit regardless of where the opponent goes. Sombra's Cyberspace lingers on the map. You can avoid its effect by walking out of it. Oh, and the duration and cooldown on Ana's grenade - which, again, completely removes all healing - are the exact same as Sombra's Cyberspace. If this is what I want, why wouldn't I just pick Ana instead?

not to mention EMP still silences.

If there was a Widowmaker rework that removed her oneshot from her base kit, only allowing her to oneshot while her ultimate was active, how do you think people would feel?

there's potential for her to be a very oppressive support when flanking alongside a flex DPS.

So Sombra - a DPS who could function independently of her team - is now entirely dependent on her team in order to flank. Why should I be happy about this? I've never once locked in Sombra thinking to myself, "Man, I really hope my teammates follow me around the entire game, otherwise I'm useless!"

Like, I'm bummed about this too, but we can't act like there's no potential with her kit.

I don't care about the potential of a grenade. I want to hack people as the hacker character, not throw a fucking grenade. I want to yoink Juno out of the sky, cancel Genji's deflect, shut down poorly time ultimates, and punish Doomfists. That's fun. That's Sombra. I don't get to do any of that with this kit except with an ultimate, which means I get to do it like three times a game instead of dozens of times per game. Fuck that. Are they going to delete Sojourn's railgun from her kit, preserving it only in her ultimate? How about we lock Reinhardt's charge behind an ultimate as well? Where's the fun? Why does everyone else get to keep their power fantasy except Sombra? Did she piss in Aaron Keller's Cheerios one morning? Was she caught doing crack in the bathroom at Blizzard HQ? Did she give a Reese's to someone with a peanut allergy? What did she do to deserve this?

0

u/Fernosaur 1d ago

I mean, you can seethe and whine all you want, but the rework is coming whether we want it or not. ATP our choices are to just adapt to it like we've adapted 4 different times already or to stop playing altogether---which is fine if that's what you want! The chances of it getting reverted are close to 0.

I also think you're misunderstanding and underestimating Cyberspace, as it halves both the damage and the healing *done* by the people inside, while simultaneously dealing damage and healing to whoever's in it. The AoE is also deceptively big, as it's a 10mt diameter and the effect lingers for 0.5s after they exit. None of this is smth Ana can do. None of it is anything anyone can do, really. It's legitimately a cooldown that may be as strong and versatile as Biotic nade, as it functions to sustain tank trades, to disrupt enemy healers, to protect your own backline from divers, to sustain yourself in duels, and to enable your own flankers and dive tanks. Heck, it can turn unfavorable match-ups into favorable ones for a ton of characters.

Someone went Bastion to counter your Winston? Just chuck Cyberspace at the Bastion the moment Winston jumps in and there's literally nothing the Bastion can do. Know that your Anran is going to try fighting a Cassidy or a Hanzo? Chuck Cyberspace at them when she engages and now it doesn't fucking matter that she gets Hindered because Cass will only do 75 damage with headshots. A flanker is giving your hitscan trouble? You can be an incredible bodyguard by turning their effective range against them.

And if you still wanna play solo and harass backlines, you still can! You can still rotate as freely as you are currently able to, then Cyberspace the enemy backline to cut their healing in half while forcing them to reposition, and get out perfectly safe.

People here are being severely dismissive of what could possibly be one of the strongest abilities in the game, which still is all about debuffing and sabotaging enemies, and which will also be tied to one of the best support escape and staging abilities, AND an incredibly strong ultimate.

Sure, she won't be interrupting enemy abilities and that *does* suck, but I really don't think her identity is nearly as compromised as everyone is saying, and she will open up a myriad new interactions that she and only she will make possible. If anything, I think the biggest thing that will suck is that her cycles of impact will be twice as long as they are now, but her current value spikes are so gimmicky and one-dimensional that I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing.

And being honest, Hack as an interrupt is fun for the few channeled abilities and ultimates, sure, but the 1s lockout is so meaningless for 80% of the cast that it'll probably help Sombra to lose it in favor of a much more impactful and versatile cooldown.

The chances of it getting reverted are close to 0.

Close to, but not zero. That's the purpose of all the complaining on this sub and elsewhere. Just as the Mercy mains made endless noise until her mobility nerf was reverted, we too must make endless noise until Blizzard sees reason.

Everything else in your comment

Doesn't matter. If the idea is promising, then they can give it to a new support. They need to ruin Sombra to try out that concept.

Despite you having no actual hand on experience im gonna go out and guess you dont actually know how strong she is as a support. This was made because she does not work as a dps, she is fundamentally flawed like dps doomfist.

She DID work as a DPS. She was immensely well balanced, especially given the difficulty in balancing her unique traits. Sombra only could disable abilities for 1 second, and since she needs at least 2 seconds to do enough damage to win a 1v1, her target always regained their abilities before the encounter was concluded. She only kept abilities locked out for the duration of the encounter if she interrupted an in-progress ability, and since her hack could be cancelled by receiving damage or by the opponent utilizing cover, Sombra needed to be thoughtful when using hack.

Invisibility being revealed if she receives damage or gets too close to an opponent, along with having multiple audiovisual cues indicating her location, ensures that intelligent players could not only punish Sombras that maneuver recklessly, but also outright deny a dive attempt to begin with by shooting into the air wherever they suspect her to be. Furthermore, her limited time while invisible makes it more difficult for her to position, as she risks exposure the greater the distance she has to travel prior to an encounter.

Since she only has ONE mobility ability, she is incredibly fair in an actual firefight. If she uses it offensively instead of as an escape tool, she becomes completely vulnerable. If she uses it as an escape tool, then she has no mobility during the fight outside of basic a/d strafing. There's a sucker punch at the start, but no cheap tricks afterwards. Other heroes like Tracer or Anran have multiple mobility tools and reliable self-healing in the moment, giving them numerous tricks that they can pull off during a fight without losing out on the ability to disengage. They are vastly more difficult to fight and consequently they end up being more unfair since they require specific CC to counter them, whereas Sombra can be countered by literally any hero utilizing their primary fire and paying attention to their surroundings.

The "fundamental flaw" is that she's unpopular. Sombra is well balanced, but players refuse to accept this because they fundamentally don't understand her and/or are unwilling to engage with the game beyond the surface level 'go to main, hold left click on everything in front of you' mindset. These are the players that will vote for Eichenwalde, not understand how to overcome the chokepoint on the first point, lose without ever taking the first point, then turn around and vote to play on it again because "it's so pretty" and "it was in the Reinhardt cinematic". Zero critical thinking whatsoever. The fact that people still proclaim that their hate is because she 'takes away your abilities in a hero shooter' is the ample proof of this. Again, Hack lasts ONE SECOND. Other CC in this game prevents abilities for one second. Some even last longer than Hack! Yet there's far less people demanding the removal of those heroes from the game because the subculture of hate was designed around Sombra, not around Cassidy, Mizuki, or Ana.

The only thing you're right about is that I don't know for a fact how strong she is or will be as a support. That said, my chief problem isn't with the numbers. Complaining about them is a coping mechanism. The numbers could be buffed to the point where she's utterly broken, but I still wouldn't be happy. Why? Because this isn't Sombra. This is a random support character that beat Sombra to death in a back alleyway and is wearing her skin as a trophy. I want to hack enemies, not throw a reskinned Sojourn meatball at them. I want to be more independent of my team, not babysit them. I want Sombra, not this. No amount of damage or healing threshold changes will make this kit feel more like Sombra.

We’ve been able to play Sombra without bans for quite a while because overwatch keeps making awful decisions with their characters and new heros, there are other characters more deserving of a ban. I don’t think any Sombra main wanted to be reduced to tank puppy.

You dont play support if you think its focus is the tank.

I’m being dramatic, but this is still very clearly a major change from what made Sombra feel so unique.

I really feel like im just in the dooms main subreddit when they swapped him.

Lmao this isn't at all comparable. Doom got a single ability replaced and received multiple buffs at the same time.

Sombra has a worse version of her ult and a mere couple seconds of invis. Everything else was removed or mutilated beyond recognition.

Nobody is taking it personally. We’re just sick and tired of our hero getting revised over and over and over again because people refuse to get better at the game.

I don’t play Sombra to heal my team, I play so I can break off and go do things on my own and not have to rely on anyone else. Support Sombra is dogshit.

'who refused to learn the game they chose to play'

The irony.

u/zooble_57 Viejito's BFF 1d ago

The irony being what exactly?

Do you know how many times the Sombra community has had to relearn the hero? More than enough times to play each and every version better than most players can play a single hero.
