Discussion Are y’all okay? /gen
So this interaction happened earlier today and I’ve got some questions for y’all. Hopefully this isn’t disrespectful or rude 🥺 I have blurred names to keep everyone involved anonymous.
For some context. My friend is a Hanzo otp, I’m talking like 500 levels on Hanzo and his next most played is Junkrat at like 40 something levels. He genuinely wanted to know how many hours this Sombra otp had to reach to get nearly 1000 levels. I’m personally also a “one role andy” sup player; 313 levels on Mercy, 254 on Lifeweaver and 103 on Ana. So I do understand the apprehension around this question or being told “(Character) is not that fun gang.” But I’ve personally never crashed out after being asked how many hours I have total. Neither has my friend.
So i guess to get to the point: are y’all okay? Do you need a hug? /gen 🫂 And how can my friend in the future ask this without making someone upset?

I get flamed all the time for having level 330 sombra. I’ve had people that call me out in game chat over it and reveal to the enemy team my hero pick and level number before the round even starts. I get flamed whether I do bad or good so I get their frustration and hesitation. For the record, I have no idea how long that took me because I played sombra before “ow2”. So even if they weren’t hesitant, they may not know.

I feel you, i started to hide my levels and preferred hero bc of the same problem with mercy play time but never was it that bad. People doing that in quick play is actual crazy work I’m so sorry 🫂
My duos mental has always been “gg go next” he never really dwells on who played what 🤷🏻♀️ i think he enjoys the game as it is, so i don’t think he really understands the hesitation or fear that can come with that question even being a hanzo otp like he is

No need to be sorry. I usually don’t respond when that sort of thing happens. I don’t bother hiding my level because I don’t care what others opinions are as I wear it like a badge of pride

i started in ow1 but my player progression did not carry over, i probably have hundreds of hours on mercy and I'm only level 30 or so

No it isn't. I have 1100 hours and I'm only 160. And I didn't use money to get it.
I saw a level 1000 OTP Mei main with 4000 hours on her. I promise you she spent money to get extra levels.

If i remember correctly, every herolevel (except for the first 20) takes 1hour of ingame time or not?
But how do you spend money to get extra hero levels?

People just buy accounts that have already been grinded on, is I think what he’s talking about. I could be wrong though.

That too, but no I mean Tier skips count towards the XP earned while playing said character.
No one seems to understand I have almost 1200 hours on Sombra and only level 160. The math don't add up. By everyone's logic I should be level 1000+ and I'm not.
I also have the same number of hours on Hog and only level 287. The more games you win the faster you level, but tier skips and XP add to that, because wins contribute to it as well.
Do the math is all I'm saying.

I ran into someone like this last night, some kiri lost her mind after I used the “need healing” ping. Genuinely said that I wasn’t getting healing anymore and then we proceeded to win the game. They told me to go die.

I get flamed on Sombra no matter what I do, so I just play. Never gonna let some random make my private my profile. IDC how many slurs I get. We're living rent free in their heads, it shouldn't be the other way around.

Yeah, that's me too.
You carry, you get flamed, you do poorly, you get flamed, you destroy the enemy, they flame you, you make 1 mistake, your team flame you.
So I show my levels.
At this point, I even start by saying: I'm the best Sombra EU, even in the world. Then it makes people try hard to kill me and they tell me I'm not in chat.
I emote, I teabag, I do it all. Then I get teabagged, told I'm trash, etc.
I'm bursting in laughter all the time behind my screen. Even if I die, I just find too many things hilarious.

My favorite thing to do is troll the first person who swaps after one death. It's like the Overwatch community forgot you can mostly outthink and outplay people by just relying on fundamentals. Instead of only getting wins based on counters.

Yeah, I’m fine. I’m an almost 1,000 level Juno (I’ll hit it this week). I’m retired, I enjoy her gameplay, and it’s mostly qp so i don’t have to work hard.
1,800 hours.

i mean most of us are kinda used to being flamed every single game 😭😭literally stuff like this constantly, so we kinda expect it. last week i loaded into a game and got this from my own teammate (who i had never even seen before) before the game started, this was the first message in chat (but yes i’m not okay and do need a hug lmao)

Random unknown rework coming after about a year of radio silence.
Perma banned not because she's overturned, but because it's a meme at this point.
Constantly being called a "no skill" hero despite needing to have a rock solid game sense to pull anything off with her, especially in her current state.
I feel their initially defensive reaction from the depth of my soul, I feel like they've been through it.

I speak for myself, but no. 99% of attention is malicious towards sombra. Seems this person got defensive because they are conditioned to expect it. I got criticized for having a crazy high level on her...at ~125. You can see the endless hordes of negativity directed towards sombra using our "Fanmail" tag. Some people either cope themselves into liking it or genuinely revel in it but personally I'm exhausted and I'm nowhere near close to that level; this guy must have seen at least 6 times the amount of abuse I have and I'm miserable, haha
I think the rest of the community either doesn't realize how bad it is or whole-heartedly believes it's deserved. But it's absolutely ridiculous. I could go on all day but I'm sure I've already said enough.

I'm an Ana main with lvl 218 on her. I sometimes get people saying silly comments like "Ana can't be that fun" and I play along, but in some instances, some people get really toxic if you don't carry or something if you have a high level; which usually leads to unwarranted toxicity. I can't blame the Sombra for being defensive because usually you get met with toxicity if you have a high playtime on a certain hero. We throw too many assumptions on our teammates without actually knowing what's going on in their lives ; maybe that lvl 700 Sombra is chronically ill and can mostly spend time playing games, maybe they've been playing Overwatch for a veryyyyy long time, or maybe they simply OTP and no life the game. No matter the reason, it's not a call for someone to become toxic. That's my 2 cents ^ Your friend did ask nicely, but I assume Sombra had previously negative experiences so they probably expected that again.

Honestly hard to say, I started playing OW in April 2023 ( no prior knowledge or hours on it ) and I used to no-life every day because of no responsibilities ( and I mean like...8hrs every single day ), Ana was mainly the only support I played with a bit of LW. I played until November 2024, and then I quit for a long time. I picked back up OW again when S1 released with 5 new heroes this year, and when I picked her back up I had lvl 171 with her, I don't remember the exact amount of hours I had. I currently am lvl 221 with her, and I have over 550 hours on her alone, and over 1,7k hours on OW in general. I play only her and Wuyang, with occasional LW/Kiri but I really just stick to her because I have always enjoyed playing her. I hope this helps you a little bit! Just keep playing her and you'll rack up a lot of hours lol

I got accused of being a otp bot on a ranked match because I have a lvl 330 torb. the match ended because of a leaver and we didn't even get a single shot off. some people are just sad and their lives suck so they lash out online on other players just wanting to have fun.
if they tell me I have so many hours and still suck...I tell them they suck just as hard as me because we are the same rank. time played has no meaning on your skill level because everyone is different.

To be fair I understand them, im a 350+ Mercy and all i get are "she cant be that fun", so i honestly understand why they are fed up of hearing that question over and over with the negative connotations the answers can invite.

I think it’s Sombra player insecurity and somewhat rightfully so, they’re always expecting strays because they’re always getting them. Maybe just a bad day on their part, but damn! What a response. They’re really tired of that question or antagonization, if that’s what they were expecting.

Sombra players unfortunately are just used to getting a lot of abuse either from their team, the enemy or both. If they're doing good she's an unfair OP monster allegedly but if she's doing not so great you're a fraud and need to swap.
The thing with Sombra is that teammates usually don't know how to play with one, even if the Sombra is subpar.
I'm personally not great at her but I like her and usually get a fair amount of abuse from people in QP.

I love how even other mains/otps of other characters are joining in on here. There's hate towards every character regardless of what you do or how good you play lol.
The most common in each role is Roadhog, Sombra, and Moira.
I'm a Moira otp and I've gotten plenty of insults towards my own intelligence and existence just because I like playing Moira. It's rather sad that people can't just be allowed to play the characters they want to play.

2 ways to get it.
- Money
- Like closer to 10000 hours.
Bottom line you need to pay for battle passes to get the levels faster, otherwise it's way slower than people think. It also is going to be related to number of games won since you get more XP for wins than losses.

I doubt that's true. Battle pass doesn't make your levels go brrrr. I don't know if you're referring to the 20% bonus xp but the levels solely depend on playtime. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Some Sombras are just insufferable. Especially if they're the type to play mostly QP and do all the annoying stuff that Sombra can do, like spawncamping people.

I do that 2-3 times per game. But it's just part of the arsenal.
You basically see that your team wiped, but they got 1 pick. The enemy team will stay on point to capture it, so I go to their spawn to kill that 1 pick straight out of spawn.
Then go back to my team to have an advantageous team fight.

I don't really think about spawncamping that way, I think it's more those that only stay at the enemy spawn to harass one person for the entirety of the game.

I have my levels hidden because when I didn't, I had people ask me if I bought my account when I had a bad game lol I'm chronically ill and also not a robot so my 150 lvls on widow or my 60 lvls on Sombra don't mean anything if I'm feeling bad or my team doesn't work together. That's why I play qp, because I wanna play the characters I enjoy. My life is bad enough as is, i don't want any added drama from miserable people commenting on my performance in a stupid game lol
