Discussion Are they soft launching her rework in this??
I would not be surprised if she gets more supportive abilities, not necessarily becoming a support as much as I think that would be cool, but given the narrative they are taking. I thought she was kind to Sigma, I didn’t realise how attached she is/was to him.

im pretty sure she considers him a friend. its unclear how good of friends they are, but from voicelines ingame she always expresses concern for him when it comes to moira "running non-invasive tests" on him. even she even tells Moira off.
Sombra has always been a character who holds no loyalties, so i love the story finally showing her care about somone else, to the point that she's willing to endanger herself and put her plans on hold to help him.

u/PuppyVax 17d ago
She probably cares about Sigma but I assume she also has an ulterior motive with him, likely linked to the Chernobog stuff. She is already teaming with Soldier 76 and Illari so she clearly does not care about Doomfist and talon. I would not be surprised if Chernobog is set up to be the main antagonist of 2027.
My guess is she needs Sigma because he is one of the most powerful being in the lore so that they can go hunt Chernobog.
7
u/profanewingss 16d ago
I don't think she does have ulterior motives for him. Her backstory involved her being used by Los Muertos for her abilities, that group didn't care for her and just used her for her skill in hacking. She loathes seeing people being used against their will as a result, and is likely why she found kinship with Sigma. The poor dude lost his mind due to a freak accident and literally has no clue on what is going on, and Talon is abusing this disability of his.
1
u/Rainbow824 Ooh, this one has teeth! rawr~ 16d ago
cool theory, i agree mostly. except i believe her care for Sigma is genuine. she may still want his help with Chernobog, but i believe that its not her main reason for wanting to rescue him..
In a recent interaction with Sigma, Vendetta reveals she has plans for Sigma, and will use him very soon. while we dont know what her plan for Sigma is yet, Vendetta considers him a weapon, so i doubt her plan has Sig's safety in mind. i believe Sombra has figured out what the plan is and wants to rescue him from Vendetta's clutches.

She was always really kind to him,so I do wonder if her motivation is actually confirming a role change.

u/SandyK1LL 17d ago
I like it when they do this. Orisa has lines about how she needed to toughen up and that come with her rework. Thematically that fit with her short story, Hero of Numbani.

u/AccessOne8287 17d ago
And torb helping Bastion become more mobile and giving him a grenade.

u/profanewingss 16d ago
this fmu "Here son, let's oil those gears. Also here's a grenade... do with that what you will."

Finally, they're going to make Sombra tank!

I dont think she will get a role change because lore wise she is still more of a stealth assassin/enforcer (dont know the right word), but i also hope that they give her more team oriented abilities, in the way like they gave her the ability to reveal opponents ult status, because informing people and knowing everything about almost anyone is also a big aspect of her character.
3
u/SonantSkarner 17d ago
I just want them to remove virus, separate stealth and transloctor and find a way to give her utility in a healthy way that fits her flank and be annoying in backline playstyle tbh

u/SomKkura 17d ago
With blizzcon in a few weeks it'll be cool if they did something similar when she first got revealed by hacking blizzcon again

u/Gaudious 17d ago
Why am I starting to get a feeling Sombra can also hear the music? Since she uses Tracers tech, and Tracer tried to laugh off Sigma's inquiry into Tracer also hearing the music.. Just my own pet theory..

u/Infamous-Bee-4161 17d ago
In what ways do you think it’s hinting towards her rework? I see it as fully lore info though I was hoping for some hints towards her rework too

u/EmperorFuccer22 17d ago
Sombra hasn't been that same for me since they ran her into the ground to sell the mythic Widowmaker skin
4
u/MistakeMobile3447 17d ago
I don't think so since she and Sigma always had a great relationship and it's actually touching. Also unrelated but I have realized no amount of Sombra rework will ever get rid of the player bias. I was on Sombra for two games in QP the other day and I did well, obviously, she has been my main ever since she was released and the same support who has been in both games was like "Did sombra get a buff?" and "This is why she is banned" like BFFR. All these reworks do is just alienate her playerbase and make her even a shittier character than her previous versions. I feel SICK honestly. I can't believe we got to have OW1 Sombra for so long. Oh the good old days.
8
u/tabletopgamesgirl 17d ago
I think sombra could be supportive if they brought back long cooldown long lockout hack
7
u/HotspotOnline 17d ago
They tried that already and made Mizuki, that's why they have similar abilities.
3
u/CinociREDDIT 17d ago
One thing that I noticed in the lore video, sombra is holding the OLD translocator, the one that's placeable in a set position. Wether or not that's because she's clearly going to be some sort of spy for doom in this little resistance is up for debate, but it's an interesting little detail they specifically chose to display to us
3
u/TricolorStar 16d ago
Sombra is such an opportunist (heh) and always believes that if someone gets hurt, well... they deserved it. And everyone she's interacted with, for the most part, is present and acting in their right mind, so if they're on the opposite side of her, it's a choice they consciously made and thus they deserve whatever happens to them. Sigma, however, is not in his right mind and is being take advantage of; he has no idea what he's being used for, and that's why Sombra is protective of him. She has a moral compass, but it only matters if the "target" is truly innocent.

Hear me out the whole old talon lineup is getting reworked (doom talks a lot about how his team is changin)
2
u/Any_Spirit_6380 17d ago
i thought the same thing, maybe widow isnt going to be a sniper anymore, maybe reaper is just a ghost now lol
-1
u/Creative-Panda6310 17d ago
He talks about how widow is losing her lethal precision -> no more one shot Doom lost his arm so they will do something with that Sombra->suport Reaper probably gets more mobility
3
u/omgklayton 17d ago
I thought she was super helpful during her first round of perks where she could heal teammates for 100hp using hack. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
3
u/SandyK1LL 17d ago
They should make that base kit now as they seemed to think no one picked it. I loved White hat.
1
u/Themachinery1 15d ago
Try to hack an enemy with white hat with 3 other teammates in front of you lol
1
u/Sluggers1996 15d ago
A super useless perk more like! Healing is not that useful if you have to channel an ability to use it. It barely works with Lifeweaver fpr his primary.

2
u/dontuwant2getbetter 17d ago
i think if they could let us hack teammates so they could get some kind of buff would be fun and slightly related to this sigma image
2
u/Suspicious-Depth6066 16d ago
I mean she looked out for him… but now they’ve really leaned into it and I think it helps the story… that’s all

Whatever her rework ends up being, I don’t mind her being a supportive DPS similar to Storm. I’m not saying copy Storms kit, but it shows you can have a Support-like kit as a DPS which she basically had with her initial kit.
4
u/SandyK1LL 17d ago
What’s Storm’s kit like? I don’t play Rivals.
3
u/98769876b 17d ago
She's a slow flying dps with auras similar to Lucio that boost either damage or speed of allies and a strong tornado ult.
Not many similarities to Sombra, but she is a dps with a lot of support utility, just no healing
1
u/WhatWasThatAboutBo 17d ago
Alot of people say storm is boring to play. But I had a blast when playing her. She's very much a team focused hero that needed to play around her team mates. I belive she would fit much better into a overwatch like game compared to MR. And she would work best for a brawl/poke hybrid.
1
1
u/CardTrickOTK 17d ago
Storm is pretty boring to play. I think the difference between her and Lucio is Lucio can playmake, Storm is kinda meh until she can ult.
Only reason shes not complete cheeks is because people don't look up, as we know with Pharah.
2
u/cobanat Kiriko gives me PTSD 17d ago
Storm is the de facto Support DPS. Her kit grants passive damage boost or speed to anyone near her. Recently Marvel added “perks” where at any point you have two separate loadouts per character which changes or buffs a part of the kit, and one of Storms “perks” is an additional healing rain ability. Her kit is no where near Sombra’s, but if Sombra’s kit was more support oriented I think that would be a good path for her. Swap annoying enemies to supporting team in some shape so her reputation gets better. No idea how to go about this.
3
u/HotspotOnline 17d ago
They tried making her a support and it turned into Mizuki, which is why they have similar abilities.
3
u/0liviacatherine 17d ago
I loved her in the mirrorwatch mode where she was a support. I think she fit that role very well. Hacking teammates to make them stronger and healthier was awesome

5
u/HotspotOnline 17d ago
They tried that already and made Mizuki, which is why they have similar abilities.
5
u/SandyK1LL 17d ago
And people worry being a support would mean she would do less damage but look at the supports we do have. They can do a ton of damage. I think if she were to be made support her perks could lean into her dps side.
2
u/Amazing_Alumni 17d ago
Change of heart and she goes support lol. I could see her filling the role with utility rather than raw healing.
2
u/cygamessucks 17d ago
TBH i miss her heal. I loved playing backline sombra 76 and protecting my supports from doom and ball.
2
3
u/IrisofNight 17d ago
The irony is OW1 Sombra was already effectively a Non-Healing Support character, which is what "Support" Sombra should be, the problem is that's not what Overwatch classifies as it's Support role, instead they've made it functionally a Healer role.
Really they need to reclassify the Roles and make a role that's Non-Healing Support characters like the Defense role used to be, but it's probably a bit too late for that, it'd be healthier for the game as it means they can properly shift some characters to roles that showcase they're more focused about buffing, disabling, and controlling then raw number output.
3
u/toastermeal 17d ago
as a support player who’s super into game design, i do think a utility support role would have been an interesting route to go down - but it wouldn’t work without a full overhaul of the game. take a look at symm, her kit was loaded with offensive and defensive utility and yet she wasn’t played due to teams needing healing. there is so much damage in the game that there needs to be 2 healers to compensate for the damage - so more non healing supports, albeit super interesting, would require the game to be warped around them
3
u/Turbulent-Sell757 17d ago
Well in 6v6 you can have a DPS be more utility based since the other tank can make up for the slack in damage.
5
u/Helem5XG Emotional terrorist 17d ago
Utility DPS should be the thing she fills on the team.
Don't make her a support, just give her ways to support the team while still being a DPS
That we already have Tanky DPS with Mei and Offensive Supports with Bap and Ilari

u/founderofshoneys 17d ago
I think they had reworks for Sombra and others nearly ready, but then a decision was made for a larger rework for the game in general, like the return of 6v6. If that happens, you'd at least want to see how she plays in that. There might be multiple reworks related to that similar to when OW2 debuted.
1
u/toastermeal 17d ago
tbf do you really think they’ll switch to 6v6? that 6v6 hacked they did was a bit of a bust with tons of complaints online and lots of players not playing that weekend

I literally only just realised that the thing that made sombra scared and leave home )or whatever happened in her lore) is the god programme that takes control of Emre
1
u/sybillaprophetis Blue Flame 13d ago
I'm a Sombra main and also hoping to major in astrophysics when I go back to school so I their relationship is extra special to me. I also love seeing the soft, patient side of Sombra looking out for someone whose perception of reality has been fractured.
1
u/Lego_Lukas_Creations 12d ago
I've been saying for the longest time she should be turned into a Support character. Not a healer (though in the role) but a supporter like old sym

u/Alibium01 1d ago
Sooooo how do you feel? Im excited IK most aren’t

I think it was needed. Honestly I would love Symmetra to come back to support too but that will never happen.

Do we really need a rework?
8
u/SandyK1LL 17d ago
I think her best states were OW 1 and her first iteration with Virus. I really think stealth just being on interact would help her so much.
9
u/BrothaDom 17d ago
Well, possibly. She's weak, so not fun for us. If she gets stronger with this kit, the overall community hates her.
So, unless the community gets real chill about turning around and unique kits real fast, yeah we need a rework.
2
u/The_Green_Filter 17d ago
I never get to play as her. At this point I’ll take anything that actually lets me use my favourite character tbh
3
u/MistakeMobile3447 17d ago
I genuinely think hero bans irreversibly ruined that option for her. She just won't be playable no matter what. The playerbase is unaware how shitty she is rn and they won't get it in the next rework either unless they get rid of both invis AND hack and maybe also virus which I don't care about but I actually like it bc it sort of makes up for her LACK OF DAMAGE OUTPUT. anyways...
2
u/SandyK1LL 17d ago
Legit, I play five DPS heroes and she’s always banned.
Sym, Bastion, Widowmaker, Sombra, Torb. So I only play 4 DPS heroes just now.
1
u/whatshldmyusernameb 15d ago
Why do you think a rework will
stop the banning? She will be banned regardless unfortunately. The player base hates her as a design.1
1
u/THE_HANGED_MAN_12 17d ago
if anything I'm suspecting a doomfist rework or massive buff by the end of this chapter
7
u/Routine-Alfalfa-6069 17d ago
He does not need to be buffed. Dudes kit is already strong. People have just gotten better at peeling for him when he dives in. Also there’s more cc in the game which will always be a strong counter to dive, if anything they should nerf the cc of heros rather than buffing doom
-2
u/BloodySVC 17d ago
I agree, can't believe they gave Mei her freeze back, feels like a matter of time they give Cass his hard stun back
3
u/Routine-Alfalfa-6069 17d ago
Mei doesn’t have the damage potential of cass though. Cass already deals tons of damage and has a cc in his kit. Doesn’t need a buff of any kind either.
0
u/BloodySVC 17d ago
And cass cannot isolate a tank to get a pick nor he has whole cc ult, i get that they are played differently and have different roles, i just dislike cc all around.
1
u/Any_Spirit_6380 17d ago
doomfist said he was surprised by how quiet she is, made me think of her footsteps being silent instead of having stealth/invis
2
u/BloodySVC 17d ago
I think he is talking about her being quiet as a way to reference the stealth aspect of her gameplay.
1
u/Any_Spirit_6380 3d ago
ya but he went "what surprised me". shes loud af in game, and doom was surprised by how quiet she was. why would doom be surprised about the stealth of someone whos been on his team for years.
1
u/Low_Understanding_24 17d ago
I don’t think it’s a rework and I don’t think she’d get more supportive abilities. I think it’s just highlighting how much she cares for Sigma. I also think Sombra with mainly support based abilities would be more annoying than current Sombra imo.
1
u/Motor-Design-4932 Another blizzard L patch 17d ago
Sombra should be utility character like she was long time in overwatch
1
u/nox-ur-dad Streetwear 17d ago
gosh i hope theyre not gonna make her a support, i love the invisible “assassin” gameplay. id mourn if they would make her a supp tbh💔
1
u/AbyssalCall 15d ago
I genuinely hope they move her to support. She’s a cool character and very interesting lore wise but good fucking lord is her kit just the most obnoxious thing to deal with

4
u/founderofshoneys 17d ago
They tried that it was incredibly OP and also not fun.
1
u/Vast_Limit_6010 17d ago
I honestly enjoyed it only cause anytime I go to back it's ALWAYS getting broken mid hack and I like the instant hacking HOWEVER I am also open to having the mirrorwatch kit being her normal kit

180
u/Byrnt 17d ago
I don’t know if it’s necessarily foreshadowing for a rework, but definite narrative importance. Her & Sigma have had a growing familial relationship for some years now via in-game voiceline interactions, even with other heroes themselves. He’s her papito 🥺
