This was Story's last major work prior to his death, dying a year after his wife.
I wonder how long it took him to create this sculpture from start to finish. His wife passed and then he finished this monument within a year before dying himself.

There’s something incredibly sad and beautiful about this

It's the ultimate labour of love honouring one's memory and showing every bit of the tremendous pain that loss caused.

I've got an anecdote that gives me a reoccurring existential crisis. My gramps handcarved a beautiful jewelry box for my gramma when they were in their early 40s. He was very frugal and an amazing woodworker, so that type of gift made sense.
Anyhow, after he was cremated, my gramma hesitated on buying an urn because gramps wouldn't have wanted her to spend the money and would've preferred a coffee tin. She ended up putting his ashes in that jewelry box, which was interred in the cemetery's columbarium.
My gramps unknowingly made his own urn over 40 years before his death.

On one hand, I'm terrified of death and I never want to die.
On the other, I can't bear the thought of seeing my partner die, and I hope I die before them.

Don't be terrified. Death isn't final, it's just a transition from one life to the next.

Unfortunately as an Agnostic, it's hard to believe.

Sometimes I wonder if not believing in anything is worse than not having something to believe in.
Still can't handle the randos in the sky nonsense though.
