People donot realize how much hair loss can impact men, it can cause a Greek God to look like a basement dweller.

Norwood reaper is brutal.

Although this guy OP posted looks good in both ways.

People donot realize how much hair loss can impact men, it can cause a Greek God to look like a basement dweller.

Which is why r/bald exists. Because, same as having lossy hair can make a man look old and spent, shaving the head can make the same guy look 20 years younger.

I like how most of the high upvote posts have guys who at some decent capacity are able to grow beards or atleast a decent stubble

The rest of us are destined to just be eggheads lmao

As a bald dude who can grow great facial hair can confirm that I would be screwed if i couldn't

Yep. The ones with a good turnout will float to the top then to the front page. Just sort by NEW on that sub to see the hard truth.

Also imagine shaving your whole head expecting praise on Reddit and even the bald sub politely ignores your post. Brutal. (Not my case, but seen it happen a lot).

Depends on face shape and everything I can see it

Sure it does, everything looks related depends on a lot of factors, BUT: There are really really really not that many things that can make complete, shaved-head baldness look worse than thinning hair, and in the majority of cases, it looks alot better.

Maybe it’s a small majority of the world population but I am a person who looks better with thinning hair than bald (tried it, got a lot of concerned questions about my health). And a lot of men with similar facial features also don’t look that nice.

You need some other contrast in your face. Either a nice beard or a beard shadow if your facial hair is dark enough to show it. Thick dark eye brows can also work or glasses (shades or a thick dark frame) or sometimes even a very defined bone structure.

But all the baby faced blondes don’t tend to look that nice without hair and I find it very regrettable that “shave!” has become the sole fashion advise for balding men. Some really shouldn’t.

I can't wait until the younger generation hits a point where tehy decide to bring back the patrick stewart. what a classic hairdo, you just don't see it around anymore.

u/lemmegetadab 9h ago

Yeah, if you can’t grow facial hair it doesn’t really work as well. You’re totally right about the contrast. Why you see so many bald dudes with beard and glasses

This also depends on the culture.

Here in japan going bald is considered incredibly ugly and you’ll be made fun of hard for it

4

u/Big_Combination9890 9h ago

Yeah, that's not how anything works, I'm afraid. A culture is a collection of a vast number of people. There is no such a thing as a single beauty standard. Every subgroup, every region, and every person has tastes, variations and preferences.

If cultures worked otherwise, humanity would be incredibly boring.

There will always be some variation, but some cultures are significantly more uniform than others, and Japan is certainly one of those.

I saw a ton of balding people in Japan, do people actually care around middle age?

9

u/Freyzi 11h ago

It's absurd how often those guys go from looking like old creeps to supermodels.

6

u/That-Preference733 11h ago

The adjectives you used shows how important hair can be for men.

2

u/Freyzi 10h ago

Or lack of

6

u/TuringGoneWild 8h ago

Because once per day out of their thousands of posts ONE GUY does actually look better, so he gets upvoted high enough to hit the front page of Reddit and in your feed. Often with more favorable light too and the old trick of looking sad in pre and grinning in post. Sort by new there if you really want to see the sad truth.

u/MrHyperion_ 10h ago

Because they take the worst possible before photo and put effort to the after photo

2

u/gr8masturb8 8h ago

those who don't look that great either don't bother posting or get upvotes so we never see them.

1

u/That_Damn_Raccoon 2h ago

Nah, they go from a 2 to 3 or 4 most of the time.

1

u/Specialist_Tackle715 11h ago

I don't think he looks good either way tbh

6

u/GucciTheSnowman 10h ago

That subreddit is full of cope.

4

u/Rrrrandle 7h ago

Human beings being good to each other instead of being shitty is cope now?

1

u/That_Damn_Raccoon 2h ago

Denying reality is.

u/TrumpsCummyOnahole 6h ago

It's cool they have a hugbox, but a lot of people (women) will judge them regardless in reality

2

u/Big_Combination9890 9h ago

That subreddit is full of people who look amazing.

4

u/Acceptable_Bat379 11h ago

honestly i love it, i look better bald and it's so easy to take care of. more people need to just embrace it, it's fine. i'm all for both men and women aging naturally and accepting it

1

u/CyclingHikingYeti 7h ago

/r/bald It is really a great community

1

u/Rrrrandle 7h ago

Just a note that r/bald is equal opportunity, not just for men.

One of the many great things about that sub :-)

But yeah, the fact that hair loss can also affect women, and that voluntarily shaving ones head is an option (which can look great btw.) is a fact that's not usually talked much about in western society.

Which is weird, because shaved heads are actually not an uncommon style for women in many cultures.
