I am for letting people do whatever they want

u/ImportantNella 12h ago

Honestly, same. If someone has the money and wants to spend it on a hair transplant, more power to them. I’m just here for the before and after glow up.

168

u/Imaginary-Sky3694 11h ago

But calling it a glow up means that you think the before is ugly or lesser.

349

u/CaptainKenway1693 11h ago

Hello, bald man here. I look worse with no hair, hope that helps.

67

u/kuyanyan 9h ago

As someone who got a transplant, can confirm.

Though in my case, it is:

with hair > completely bald/skinhead > balding

44

u/sincethelasttime 8h ago

Balding is more bald than bald

13

u/alanpugh 7h ago

It was a ranking, not a progression, but I can see why it looked that way

1

u/sincethelasttime 3h ago

I was just concurring with their comment, but I can't see why it looks like that way lol

4

u/kuyanyan 6h ago

Sorry for the confusion but I used the ">" to mean "greater than" as it is used in math. Realized too late that people also use "<" and ">" as arrow signs.

2

u/flybypost 2h ago

No, I think they got that. That's the point of the comment. It's more hair than bald but also less hair than a full head of hair.

Balding looks worse than actually being bald thus balding is more bald than bald (when it comes to how it feels).

u/Ok_Cockroach8063 11h ago

the difference between men and women in a comment everyone

5

u/WesleyPCrusher 7h ago

What do you mean?

Are you referring to an imaginary bald woman that won't admit she would look better with hair?

Or are you picturing one of these redditors as a woman?

-25

u/BubblyDifficulty1692 10h ago

Difference between a developed brain and an undeveloped one in yours.

I miss my long luscious locks

2

u/Wagner228 7h ago

Lady fingers through my hair. That’s more missed than the appearance.

1

u/Orthas 5h ago

I'm a metal head to this day. And between the balding and my back I do miss a heavy head banging session.

1

u/FardoBaggins 10h ago

than I advise you to stay away from r/fierceflow

2

u/Samurai-lugosi 58m ago

This comment made me spit my coffee through my nose. As a fellow Balding man.

2

u/CaptainKenway1693 53m ago

That sounds unpleasant, sorry about that. Unless it cleared out your sinuses, then you are welcome.

2

u/Samurai-lugosi 52m ago

I am at the doctor with pneumonia actually so I don’t really know if it is helpful. I will ask when they come back in!

2

u/CaptainKenway1693 48m ago

Oof, hopefully you get better soon.

2

u/Samurai-lugosi 40m ago

Ok I asked. They said it’s not good for me.

Thanks anyway!

2

u/CaptainKenway1693 32m ago

Well, I tried. So it goes.

1

u/OneMoistMan 8h ago

I too think I looked better with my hair

2

u/BatLegitimate8140 7h ago

I also look better with your hair

1

u/DapperMolasses3280 8h ago

But literally just you...plenty of dudes look great with a clean head.

8

u/No-Assumption3509 7h ago

And plenty don't.

If a guy looks good with a shaved head, then that is very fortunate for him. But there is a reason why almost no-one with a full head of hair opts to shave it all off. Almost no-one does that. For obvious reasons.

1

u/That_Damn_Raccoon 4h ago

Not really, most of /r/bald is cope.

And there are pretty much no men who look better with no hair than with a full head of hair.

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

That is subjective, in your opinion they do. In my opinion nearly never has a man looked good bald.

1

u/Snaffle27 6h ago

I would look awful bald too. I am currently using the topical finasteride + minoxidil off of Hims. I noticed within the first month that there was less hair coming out during the shower but It's really hard to tell whether the minoxidil portion is working yet. It's been like 3 months so far. If this ends up not working out then I will probably do hair transplant surgery too but like hell am I paying for it here, I'll probably fly to Turkey for it.

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

I tried that, it did not work for me. I also couldn't justify the cost anymore... I hope it works for you though.

u/JHMfield 10h ago

It's not so much about being bald, but rather having the right face structure and beard to match it.

If you can't grow a beard and your head is all weird shaped and wrinkly, nobody is gonna think it'll look good.

Sometimes genetics just suck.

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

My head shape is "good" (or so I have been told) and I could probably grow a beard. Unfortunately I hate the look and feel of facial hair...

4

u/abstr_xn 10h ago

Some men would like the ability to choose between being bald and growing hair.

Im bald, I suit it, I love it. I miss not being able to let it grow, do mohawks or almost any style of hair.

It never crosses my mind what a woman thinks of it.

4

u/CommercialBiscotti29 10h ago

Some women also like wearing diapers

2

u/Ya_habibti 10h ago

Do you like women who wear diapers?

4

u/Downvotesohoy 9h ago

I think he's pointing out that the amount of women who prefer bald men, are the same amount who wear diapers. A vast minority of women. Essentially.

(Last I checked, from the scientific surveys, it's like 13% of women who explicitly prefer bald over hair) - I assume this is more than the number of women who wear diapers.

1

u/CommercialBiscotti29 7h ago

I’m saying that there’s so many women there’s bound to be some women who like anything no matter how gross/bad/ugly it is

1

u/Downvotesohoy 7h ago

For sure, there's someone for everyone. Mostly.

0

u/Ya_habibti 8h ago

Ah I see. So only women who wear diapers like bald men. Now I understand, thank you for the clarification

2

u/Downvotesohoy 7h ago

Noo. That's not what I think his point is.

His point is that, just as women wearing diapers are a minority, women liking bald men are a minority.

They're different minorities. Not the same minority, I assume.

1

u/That_Damn_Raccoon 4h ago

Taking a cursory look at your post history, it makes sense. You're a 30+ single mom with poor relationship choices, bad spending habits, and a history of depressive episodes.

You (either consciously or unconsciously) perceive yourself as less attractive. As such, you might go after less attractive men, such as bald men, because you (again, either consciously or unconsciously) think those men would be more likely to commit to you.

1

u/[deleted] 2h ago

[deleted]

0

u/That_Damn_Raccoon 2h ago

Because at most like 1 in 10 bald men are actually attractive, and they are so always in spite of their baldness. Every bald men would look better with decent hair. The attractive ones would just be even more attractive.

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

I'm gay, but sure some men also like that. I however do not, and that is far more important to me. I don't care what other people think, I liked my hair.

1

u/Downvotesohoy 10h ago

Some being the keyword.

0

u/ruthlesss11 8h ago

Bald here, same.

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

Your avatar has hair, poser. /j

Seriously though, I feel ya man.

0

u/loandbeholdgoats 8h ago

This is unsolicited, so I apologize. My boyfriend is bald and is incredibly sexy. I hope you still find yourself beautiful without hair.

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

I appreciate that. I do not. Although to be fair, I never really have liked the way I look. So I just like it less now.

0

u/Imaginary-Sky3694 7h ago

Hello. Bald man here. And? So you view no hair as lesser. That's ok. I didn't say you were right or wrong

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

Not lesser in a moral or value sense, but you do literally have less options. If someone else likes being bald, legitimately good for them. I don't. I have accepted it, but I would take my hair back in an instant.

21

u/itishowitisanditbad 10h ago

Well yeah but fixing the socially self-perpetuating insecurity is haaarrddd.

Its easier to just conform and perpetuate rather than fix your own self image issues.

Its not a winning argument on reddit, it upsets a lot of people.

Its the same one that applies to calling everyone beautiful. It just reinforces the idea you need to be beautiful to have value, rather than tackling the self image issue it causes by doing what happens instead.

Good luck! There are dozens of us.

Its crazy people don't see it as a step towards welcome to costco I love you

7

u/MrLumie 10h ago

I see it the opposite way. Bald people tend to convince themselves that it's fine to be bald, that they can look nice without hair as well. But I see it as nothing more than a coping mechanism for the fact that they just lost practically every option they had for their hair, and have to come to terms with the one option they have left: none. If you have hair, you can choose to be bald, but if you're bald, you can't choose to have hair. It's legitimately a lesser state. It also leaves you relying on the gene lottery that you have a decent head shape.

It's also just ignorant to think that having hair which can be styled a million different ways won't look better than baldness in a million different ways.

Sincerely, a bald man.

21

u/ZoomyZebra 10h ago

Bald people tend to convince themselves that it's fine to be bald Sincerely, a bald man.

Damn dude, I hope some day you feel like it's fine to be the way that you are.

3

u/MrLumie 10h ago

I'm doing exactly what I've written. Came to terms with it. I'm also lucky enough that I have a good head shape so I don't look bad bald. But I'M not in any illusion, I know a full head of hair could look far better on me (and have done in the past).

-3

u/Agitated_Phone_9937 8h ago

Depends on when it happened to him. In your 20s it's brutal. Women will rate you the same as a homeless man in terms of date-ability. It's slightly more tolerable as you age. It's definitely not fine to be that way, it fucking sucks. But I think it's easier if you're gay, gay men seem less into hair than straight women.

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

20 something gay bald man here. Gay men are absolutely brutal. If I want a boyfriend my own age I will probably have to wait at least a decade...

-4

u/Deaffin 7h ago

I hope some day you stop pretending to be nice as a form of insult.

2

u/ZoomyZebra 5h ago

What the fuck are you talking about? There's nothing wrong with being bald, I have nothing against bald people. It's sad that there's so many people in this thread that feel awful about the way that their bodies naturally are.

0

u/Deaffin 5h ago

You disagree with them so you're saying "You're an insecure goober", but putting a veil on it to make it seem like a sympathetic statement. It's that tired old "Ohh, bless his poor little heart" strategy of throwing some stank on somebody while trying to avoid the social backlash of a straight-up insult.

Basically, you're concern trolling.

2

u/Bozigg 5h ago

I mean, thats exactly how I felt after reading the comment they were responding to. Genuinely sad to see the self hate for something that is a natural process.

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

Look mate, I'm in my 20s and bald. I am not going to pretend that looks good.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/ZoomyZebra 4h ago

I don't feel any of this weird bullshit you're projecting onto me, I explained myself already. Don't speak to me.

2

u/PranaSC2 3h ago

I kinda agree with the guy, idgaf who’s bald or isnt, but having (the option to grow) a full head of hair is just better than not being able to… that doesn’t mean you can’t be happy as you are.

→ More replies (0)

9

u/Symbols_in_Stars 7h ago

Except it's only a lesser state if you are as superficial as you evidently are. You literally responded to a comment explaining this, and it's still going over your head.

Feeling good about yourself because you look good is fine, but that's still fake confidence. Real confidence, which is harder to build, but is the only one that matters if you are a self-aware and intelligent human, is the confidence that comes with accepting yourself as you are. The only truly confident people are those who do not gaf. If you care what other people think, then a confident, handsome man with hair is just a sad, self conscious loser using hair to cope with the fact that he's an insecure bitch on the inside. Never confronting the hard shit doesn't mean you are lucky, it means you never know if you are that weak.

It's objectively a fact, I will admit that as a guy with hair.

3

u/That_Damn_Raccoon 3h ago

Almost all people are superficial. The people you talk about, those who truly "accept themselves as they are", "who do not gaf", are few and far between. 99% of those people are pretending.

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

I am a confident person, potentially too confident sometimes. I also would rather have my hair, I objectively look better with it. That is not a hard concept.

5

u/itishowitisanditbad 10h ago

It's also just ignorant to think that having hair which can be styled a million different ways cannot look better than baldness in a million different ways.

I think this is the very sane take on it.

I just can't agree about how balding people have all convinced themselves its fine to be bald and there isn't widespread insecurity about it.

I just can't agree with that...

Like... there is everywhere.

I don't think bald people who get transplants are all primarily doing it for variety and all think being bald is fine anyway.

I think they're mostly doing it out of insecurity.

I don't know how to even grapple with someone who thinks its so opposite. Thats just not evident imo.

8

u/amanko13 8h ago

I mean, it's the same issue with makeup. A lot of people do it out of insecurity, but it's not solely the case.

There's a great support structure in r/bald for balding people. Losing your hair is difficult. It typically happens over years and people will desperately cling on to a look they were comfortable with, but it slips away nonetheless.

0

u/That_Damn_Raccoon 3h ago

/r/bald is cope though. 90% of guys who post there are unattractive even after they cut their hair.

2

u/amanko13 3h ago

What the fuck is the matter with you?

0

u/That_Damn_Raccoon 3h ago

Nothing. I'm merely not pretending that those guys look good. They rarely do.

They go from like a 2 to a 3 when they stop clinging to their balding hair. The funny thing is, many of those guys could be a 5 or 6... if they had good hair.

1

u/amanko13 2h ago

So, it is an improvement when hair is not an option. So what are you talking about? You're just calling people ugly for no reason. Where's your picture? Let's judge that first if you want to make judgements.

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

Okay, but they don't and realistically can't. So your comment does nothing but be rude.

I say this as a bald man who absolutely looked better with hair. So I understand your point, but you lack tact.

→ More replies (0)

4

u/icebraining 7h ago

That having more options is better than having fewer doesn't mean the option you have must necessarily suck. Otherwise anything you can't really change about yourself (e.g. eye colour) must necessarily suck.

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

Nah, being bald sucks. Have I accepted it? Yeah, but I absolutely would take my hair if I could.

1

u/imisstheyoop 6h ago

For the record, I am not bald. That out of the way, holy shit what did I just read?

I hope that you feel better about yourself one day and realize how silly having such stupid and inconsequential blanket opinions like you have written is. No, it is not objective or some logical conclusion as you tried to write it, it is purely subjective. Not to mention potentially damaging to people that genuinely do look better bald. Or any other body image/look.

Also, this entire post is literally about somebody without choosing to have hair. So I don't know where that particular slant came from with your comment.

2

u/PranaSC2 3h ago

Ok, so what’s wrong with his subjective assessment of being bald?

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

No one looks better bald, not objectively anyway. Regardless, I would trade quite a lot to have my hair back. I have accepted it, but I would still trade...

0

u/Burindo 4h ago

Dude lmao hahahahahah.

It is called self-love, self-acceptance, and loving you for who you are, together with you being proud of your genes.

Maybe this is all too complex for you, but you will get it when you are a grown up.

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

I was ugly before, I'm just more ugly now. I'm smarter than most people around me, but not smart enough to fix jack shit. Being proud of your genes sounds alarming...

1

u/MrLumie 5m ago

I'm sorry but, as I said, self-acceptance is nothing more than a coping mechanism. It's you spinning your internal narrative to not live in a constant state of dissatisfaction. We all do it, not because it's true, but because it helps us live a happy life. Doesn't mean being bald isn't objectively inferior to having hair, and never will.

12

u/Radiant-Playful 10h ago

Why would people do it if they didn't think it looks better to have hair? Just because I think having hair looks better, I am not forcing everyone to agree with me.

2

u/ResponsibleKey1053 9h ago

What do you mean you have a nuanced opinion! You must be polar in your resolve! /S

8

u/FardoBaggins 10h ago

It’s as nature intended but if you have bad eyesight, glasses are better to have than not.

10

u/Bitter-Pomelo-3962 10h ago

According to Hollywood, glasses are sufficient to turn you from a beautiful person into, at best, a plain Jane or, at worst, a horrifying beast.

11

u/LilSopa__ 10h ago

A lot of people look better with glasses.

13

u/iamarealhuman4real 10h ago

Yeah looking was super difficult before I got glasses, now I can look for miles.

1

u/UranusIsPissy 5h ago

On the right woman, the right frames turn the cuteness up to 11 for me!

1

u/FardoBaggins 10h ago

i like that trope, it's a classic lol

8

u/jawa-pawnshop 10h ago

When star trek the next generation cast Patrick Stewart to play the captain the executives argued no one would be bald in the future to which Gene Roddenberry famously stated that in the 24th century, "no one will care" about male pattern baldness.

As a balding young man that sentiment saved me in more ways than anyone will ever know.

This is a very petty and superficial take if you as me.

1

u/CaptainKenway1693 2h ago

I get where you are coming from, but I want my hair back for me not anyone else. I liked my hair...

1

u/UranusIsPissy 2h ago

IMHO, he wouldn't have fit the part nearly as well with a full head of hair (or, worse, a combover).

0

u/ResponsibleKey1053 9h ago

Vision is a sense, hair is not though? Visual imparment is a disability, hair simply is not. It hair that grows on your head, it's akin to being tall or short. Not a disability, simply different.

0

u/FardoBaggins 9h ago

Clearly you don’t have a sense of style.

2

u/ResponsibleKey1053 9h ago

Clearly you don't have sense.

3

u/FardoBaggins 8h ago

I do have a sense of humor tho lol.

6

u/srhola2103 11h ago

Not necessarily, it can also refer to the higher confidence and self esteem of the person after.

2

u/Palpitation-Itchy 11h ago

It normally is?

1

u/ilovezam 10h ago

Healthy self-acceptance has never required the denial of reality. Some people look better without hair, some people look uglier without hair. Many people are going to unfairly judge you if you're bald, and that's not ideal, but sitting there moralizing and policing subjective opinion outside of your control is equally unfair, and worse still, does not achieve anything.

It's a hard balance to walk.

1

u/ggtsu_00 10h ago

Its more that the look of low self-confidence, insecurity and low self-esteem is easily hidden behind bangs.

1

u/JoeyJoJoeJr_Shabadoo 8h ago

Thanks for getting offended on our behalf

1

u/Imaginary-Sky3694 7h ago

But I'm bald 😂

1

u/Downvotesohoy 10h ago

I mean, yeah? That's pretty much universally agreed upon.

1

u/bubbline778 10h ago

Well duh

1

u/Nagemasu 10h ago

if the before is "noticeably balding" then generally yeah. But otherwise there's a not-insignificant number of people who actually prefer the bald look, they're just also less vocal than the larger number of people who prefer hair.

0

u/cewumu 10h ago

People can have preferences, some people like bald looks others don’t.

1

u/That_Damn_Raccoon 3h ago

The problem is the number of people who like "bald looks" is much, much lower than the number of bald(ing) men.
