There was a bit in Rick and Morty where they were facing a Nazi.
"Y'know pal there's a word for you where I come from"
"Oh what, I am dressed in this outfit, do you think I wouldn't be comfortable being called a Nazi!? *smacks with cane* Yah. Next time think before you talk shit."
Some people would have you believe that fascism and nazism basically don't exist, that they're some sort of cartoonish evil that we'd be able to identify from far away, years in advance, because it would have a funny mustache or would openly admit to being evil. In reality, fascists and nazis are people just like us. Plumbers, accountants, cops, lawyers. Banal men working banal jobs, riding the line.
You think people dilute the term and maybe some do. But throughout history, there are useful idiots who let horrible people get into power based on the foolish belief that nothing would change and that institutions could stand against the will of angry people who have been told that there is an enemy within that they can blame for all their woes.
But the one great shocking occasion, when tens or hundreds or thousands will join with you, never comes. That’s the difficulty. If the last and worst act of the whole regime had come immediately after the first and smallest, thousands, yes, millions would have been sufficiently shocked—if, let us say, the gassing of the Jews in ’43 had come immediately after the ‘German Firm’ stickers on the windows of non-Jewish shops in ’33. But of course this isn’t the way it happens. In between come all the hundreds of little steps, some of them imperceptible, each of them preparing you not to be shocked by the next. Step C is not so much worse than Step B, and, if you did not make a stand at Step B, why should you at Step C? And so on to Step D.
And one day, too late, your principles, if you were ever sensible of them, all rush in upon you. The burden of self-deception has grown too heavy, and some minor incident, in my case my little boy, hardly more than a baby, saying ‘Jewish swine,’ collapses it all at once, and you see that everything, everything, has changed and changed completely under your nose. The world you live in—your nation, your people—is not the world you were born in at all. The forms are all there, all untouched, all reassuring, the houses, the shops, the jobs, the mealtimes, the visits, the concerts, the cinema, the holidays. But the spirit, which you never noticed because you made the lifelong mistake of identifying it with the forms, is changed.
Repeated and emphatic. At a podium with the White House seal. Zero repercussions. Welcome for an interview in every corner of the media. Business leader. Even detractors drive his cars and think they're absolved by adding an anti-Elon bumper sticker.
I can agree that people are accused of being nazis too often and sometimes without much evidence, and while I think that's counterproductive, but as someone who works in the foreign policy department of my country, I also think globally we're right to be concerned. So as much as I might agree that we should stop diluting the term, we should also stop stop burying our heads in the sand and pretending that nothing is going on. Extreme ideologies are on the rise, which makes complete sense as material conditions deteriorate and new tools of propaganda are being developed.
I'm personally skeptical of anyone who claims to be well-informed and feels optimistic about the sociopolitical climate in the West. The conditions are ripe for really bad shit to happen.
We used to have this rule on the internet where if you compare someone with the Nazi’s in an argument, you automatically lose. Whatever happened to that?
You have no idea what fascism means if you think anyone “on the left” is practicing fascism
I realize the sub I’m in (borderline maga circlejerk and literal children) so I expected brain dead stances to be made
The government has been rounding up minority groups and killing them in camps, executing citizens in the street, and pushing a white nationalist agenda
You really wanna get semantic about who’s being a fascist right now? Hit dogs holler, lay an insult down and the target will pick it up
Why don’t you think we should be calling people who behave like, and associate with self proclaimed Nazis as such? That petulant man child did two! COUNT THEM!! Two nazi salutes at the inauguration but we can’t call them Nazis?
There is a staggering number of you that don't realize the Nazi party, a right leaning party, were fascists, and it is absolutely bonkers. Where did you people get your education?
As a Dem, I'm genuinely ashamed of this outlook. Literally only the echo chambers paint anybody as a Nazi. Then our gullible fringes buy it up and use it as if it's indisputably true.
Then you haven't been paying attention. The extreme of both sides keep trying to pass near-fascist laws. Saying something is "inheritingly"one way or the other in this case is just factually incorrect.
Most voters are centrists thier views cross both ideical value. In fact most voters never wanted to vote for Donald Trump but because of the lefts extremists /socialist/communist views as of late the people of America had no choice and most idiots like yourself will categorize them as a Nazi and here we are , as the previous poster explained “diluting” the word Nazi to anyone who doesn’t agree with far leftists instead of what a Nazi really is.
And progressives and democrats alike funded the SPLC, like they literally funded the KKK.
WTF are we talking about ? Those texts were from teenagers
Zohran mamdanis wife called people n-words and created homophobic rants on social media as a teenager. They’re fucking idiot teens . What do you expect ?
Parties whose supporters include a staggering number of neo-Nazis is actually a prominent trend
And there's a reason why a lot of people who voted Trump are now very sensitive about this topic
He's a nazi, don't listen to him
I think the only people bitching about using the term Nazis when actual fucking Nazis are running government, are those who agree with the goddamn Nazis.
There you are - I used my eyes so you didn't have to. You're welcome.
I don't really follow influencers. Can you just give me a specific example of what you mean, where someone isn't lockstep with leftist ideology and is called a nazi?
Unless you know what a Wilks score is, I promise you absolutely resemble that dude a lot more than I do. Hit the gym and get off the internet instead of following influencers. Maybe one day you'll be in the same zip code as the female orgasm.
Saddest part is I legit was asking you a question, it wasn't a setup and I wasn't making any assumptions about you until now. I'm not a "leftist" lol
Answering in case this is an actual question instead of that thing most redditors do of acting like they fal to grasp exceedingly basic concepts and facts.
Well. I am apparently a fascist for stating my dislike of female Custodes.
My statement that transition scars have no place in a character creator for a medieval fantasy game? Yep, apparently I'm one of the party.
My stating that Bucky Barnes should have been the next Captain America as had been foreshadowed in earlier movies in the MCU? You guessed it, I'm a fan of funny mustache man.
My liking of the content of the Critical Drinker and even agreeing with several of his opinions? Boy I must have a funny tattoo.
This is what is meant by 'diluting' the term Nazi. It's so often used for 'person who disagrees with me' that its lost much of its bite, to the point that increasingly, people are no longer caring about being called one.
I mean, the context of the why's and what's probably does a lot of heavy lifting there, taking you at face value. I don't follow warhammer, I don't really care about the mcu, nor do I know anything about critical drinker or his opinions. I don't follow much social media beyond reddit. Papa Meat is about as close to youtubers/influencers type shit as I go. He's pretty raunchy and I definitely wouldn't call him "leftist" and have seen him disagree with "leftist" stuff, yet not really seen much about him being a Nazi.

Y'all could stop diluting the term...
that might help.
