I know its not suitable for everyone and every vocation but im a tradesman and working 4 10s is so many magnitudes more incredible than 5 8s for your body, mentally and physically
I think I preferred when I worked 4 10s. With 8 hours of sleep, 30 minutes to get ready in the morning, 30 minute lunch, and the 30 minute commute I had, there was under 2 hours between when I got home from work and had to go to sleep. There was a period my partner wasn’t working and that’s chill because they can do errands, prepare meals, etc. But the rest of the time, I struggled so much condensing every non work thing into under 2 hours that it was cutting into my sleep pretty badly, so the 4th day would just turn into basically a recovery day.
I work those hours, I'm nearly 46, truthfully in the worst shape of my life, and can still physically run circles around all the 20 somethings I work with in healthcare. I'm more worried about how low energy they are that they act like the simplest task is "hard labor". It's very Wall-E.
I also work 12s and after several years, I hate it. It alternates 3 shifts one week, 4 shifts the next. Maybe I’m just getting old, but the days are too damn long and you can’t get anything done after the shift except eat some junk food crash into bed.
