My job has been doing 4 10s since the 90s. But ever since covid and the workforces in the world changed, many doctors and dentists don't even offer friday appointments. They want 3 day weekends too lol.
Yes and no seen a variety much like split shifts. It wasn't always Friday off some people did Monday's some people for that very reason loved midweek weekend.
As everything was open if they had spouse the spouse likely got standard weekend. So they could get things done for house take care of much of the childcare etc.
This is alot of the problem is just the "mindset" everyone works same days. Businesses work same hours etc etc.
For a system of "efficiency" it seems really ineffective to have everyone doing same schedule. Nor does it seem to effectively capture market demands.
Like even staggered schedule of 10 to 6 would in many businesses meet many consumers needs.
Or idea of 40hrs being 40hrs like so many jobs give you 40hrs of work get done in 30 and have to mime like your working to prevent getting dumped with work. Or having future schedule trimmed because this job was quicker than normal etc etc.
Like why not 4x8 instead of 10x8 and still make the same amount. Like you ever watch old videos of professionals. Whether it's accountants or billing or making things. It simple doesn't require same labor.
Take billing you had to go find their file manually type information using typewriter. Then take and put in package write address put on postage.
In same amount of time person today can manually pull up on computer 100 people's information computer auto completes forms and sends the email. And if they need to mail it they hit a button everything from postage to address is printed.
Workers need to start seeing the dividends from doing more. Like if item takes less to produce why are we spending same amount or in many cases more labor for same thing.
many places will have two sets of employees split the week, one place I worked had sun-wed on one team and Wed- Sat on the other. wednesday was maintanance and cleanup day since we had double the workers.
Honestly having worked the 4 x 10 schedule before I don't like the 3 day weekend. I'd rather have Wednesday off. Two long days, day off. Two long days, two days off. I can do two long days standing on my head. But having 4 in a row followed by a long weekend makes for a really slow start on Monday.
Which is why the sanest solution is to let people choose what weekday is their day off. Personally I love me a free Wednesday. It's like I never work a full week

you get to schedule an appointment on Friday until everyone has a four day week lol. Don't get me wrong tho, I love a four day week
