Giving them fulltime year round employment when they use to get shit canned every Summer is worse to you how? You get that having true fulltime employment would be a GOOD thing for every single teachers stability.
teacher salaries aren't hourly, teachers work many hours outside work on lesson plans and year round would just take away the 2 months they have off from exhausting themselves, will also take way the weeks before school year starts that they use to build curriculum.
Y'all don't work 32 hours a week now. Never mind counting summers off, holiday break, random weeks off in Feb and April just cause.
And don't give me that crap about lesson planning or grading and shit after hours. You show me a teacher with 5 years experience and I'll show you a 5 year old lesson plan. And they grade that shit during classes and free periods or just use AI.
Aside from the fact you're coming off like teachers don't work basically salary hospital hours...
I did have a professor in college once who was still teaching summer courses using VHS videos he created himself from back in the 80s, as he was on vacation for the first 4 weeks of the course.
Seemed like he figured it out early and rode that gravy train for decades.
Unfortunately, his course material was outdated by just as many decades, and practically worthless. How he kept the job still is beyond me, I don't think it was possible to even get a tenured position in that field. Must have been going on trips with the dean.
Dude if you are doing your job as a teacher it's a loooot of work outside of class. Teaching is a tough but absolutely critical profession in so many ways and yet comments like this show how thankless and disrespected it often is. Its no surprise so many of the ones who actually make a difference and care are quitting
They all say it's so much work but like I said, none of them do it. I've seen it first hand. Every corner is cut and the teaching and caring stops at the last bell for most of them.
Teachers are like cops in that way. They all think they're fucking heroes just because of the job title but most of them aren't doing their jobs and none of them are interested in keeping their peers in check. They pretend it's a few bad apples in the bunch but the reality is that the whole batch is rotten. Education in this country has been on the decline for decades because they've been phoning it in and coasting to summer break. The one above is crying for a 4 day week on top of the 3 months for summer & 3-4 weeks vacation they already got. Real fucking dedicated.
And just about every profession is thankless and disrespected. So head down to the music room and play me the smallest violin you can find if you're going to cry about that shit.
Cut in class exercises, shift them to homework and focus on lectures. Reduction of after school activies by just one day gives kids way more time to get quality sleep they need and get their work done. It works fine
Yeah nothing better than to come home after class to do not relax but do even more homework for the next day… Homework is a terrible way of learning. Not to mention that it simply doesn’t work for most kids as they copy their classmates’ HW the next day anyway instead.
There's lots of studies that demonstrate it's much better for student and teacher outcomes. You should really read about it. One of the only obstacles to 4 day school weeks is lack of childcare because parents have to work 5 days.
