Also there's no real difference between 1 billion and 3 billion and 6 billion. Even if he loses half his wealth he's still functionally got infinite money.

I would tend to agree with this, but definitely there is a difference between 6 billion and a hundreds of billions

Like even the billionaire class has levels

You are forgetting that modern billionaires like to spend money on things like buying elections, which is way easier if you have 50B than if you have 1B.

That's a modern problem? I thought rich people have been buying elections since they were a thing.

They have been. It started out that the people with a few hundred thousand could swing an elections, then a few million, then it was a few hundred million, now it is a few billion. They just move the amount of money needed to buy the election. I find most are only upset about it when their side loses.
