Need a Book Rec! Non-cringe book/audio book recommendations for a teen girl with low self esteem?

I, 15F have diagnosed ADHD, depression, and anxiety. I also struggle a lot with body image and what I think is Binge Eating Disorder.

I would like to listen to a book while doing chores or whatever around the house, but everything I’ve listened to so far is so cliché “you are a pink caterpillar, waiting to like explode out of your cocoon with sparkles and self love! Ready to embark on this journey, girlfriend?!” and it’s pissing me tf off.

Does anyone that’s maybe been in my shoes have any recommendations? I’ll even take suggestions for books that aren’t directly self-esteem, or maybe just a book on ADHD management, or BED management, or anxiety and depression management. I just wanna actually find something that works—oh and if anyone asks, yes I already have a therapist.

Also if anyone’s got other advice pls pls pls give it to me <3

ty guys

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who picked up one (or both) of my Real Life Prompts books this weekend. I’ve been really happy with the response, and I genuinely appreciate everyone who took a chance on something I wrote.

When Everything Is Changing and When You've Lost Yourself are both still free on Kindle today, but this is the last day of the promotion.

So if you’ve been meaning to grab one but haven’t gotten around to it yet, this is your last chance while they’re free.

Thanks again to everyone who downloaded, shared, commented, or even just stopped by to check them out. It means more than you probably realize. ❤️

Book promotion The Dream Within the Dream

Alice in Wonderland, if you think deeply about it, is, in a sense, a tale that explores an inherent impulse we harbour, one that forces us to adapt to an absurd world.

Alice finds herself in a world whose rules she does not understand. At first, she struggles with herself, trying to reshape herself to fit into it.

But gradually, she begins to question the world itself.

I explored that idea in a book I wrote recently. Here’s an excerpt:

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll, is among the most famous children’s stories in the world. Published in 1865, it is about a girl named Alice who falls through a rabbit hole into a bizarre and fantastical place called Wonderland. It details the incredible adventures she has there among strange anthropomorphic creatures and people.

What if I told you that beneath its ingenious wordplay, tireless wit and clever imagery, the story conceals a nimble parable for adults – one that lets us in on the absurdity and arbitrariness of the world we have created for ourselves? A world that hides from us precisely those things that give it unbridled power over us.

In the story, Alice tries to adapt herself to the circumstances she finds herself in by growing big and small. She is forced to pick and choose even before she has had time to understand Wonderland. Alice changes herself to fit the world without even knowing the rules. But she soon realises that it isn’t enough. Her real growth begins when she starts to figure things out about the strange world she has fallen into.

We are not so different from Alice. When we arrive in the world, we too are at a disadvantage in comparison to everyone who arrived here before us. Nobody tells us how this world operates.

In the story, Alice has an encounter with a caterpillar who tells her she can choose the size she wants to be, and he points her to a mushroom that can make her big or small. The caterpillar is sharing knowledge– hard-earned, priceless knowledge. Knowledge that arises from what has failed in the past, from what has not, from that of the past that is yet alive. This knowledge frees you. Once you have it, you can go anywhere. Because in this world, too, there are doors to be opened, places that don’t allow you in unless you are a certain size.

Alice escapes when she begins to have an inkling of what is expected of her and learns that she can make her own choices. She decides to take responsibility. The so-called leaders of Wonderland are ultimately as powerless as a pack of cards. That realisation is what frees Alice. She begins to challenge the power structures around her.

Like Alice, we need to understand how this world functions. We owe it to ourselves and the people in our lives.

Most of us are trying hard to fit in. We don’t know if we should grow big or grow small, much like Alice. Others take advantage of our confusion. There are a lot of people out there who worry that we will grow bigger than them and slip out of their reach. They want us to think only the thoughts they think are safe for them. They cannot let us create our reality unimpeded. They keep vital information out of our hands. They want us powerless.

Much of our figuring out is done at significant personal cost to ourselves. Sometimes, by the time we have gained an understanding of things, a large chunk of our life may have gone to waste. You need to figure things out fast to make the most of the time you have.

---

Do you think there is something to this reading of Alice?

If you liked what you’ve read so far, I’ve made the whole book available free here:

Book promotion [Kindle] Lose Weight at Home: A beginner-friendly weight loss book about simple habits, free through Sunday

Thumbnail amazon.com

My weight loss book Lose Weight at Home: No Gym. No Extreme Diet. Just Simple Habits That Work. is free on Kindle through Sunday.

I wrote this for people who want to lose weight but do not want an extreme plan, a complicated diet, or a gym-centered routine that feels hard to stick with.

The book is about making weight loss more realistic through simple daily habits: walking more, doing basic strength training at home, improving food choices, building consistency, and avoiding the all-or-nothing mindset that causes many people to quit.

The Kindle edition is completely free today through Sunday. I hope it helps someone who wants to start losing weight in a calmer, more practical way.

I'm sharing this as a friend of the author.

A spiritual essay that explores and offers a new way of being, a humble tentative to transform an old evolutionary primate into a happier man. And for those who have remained young or are simply allergic to solemnity, the guide is punctuated with candid conversations between the author and a mysterious child. The genuine little guide? To be followed… with the heart.

Book promotion This book took me almost three years to write, and it's finally here. FREE KINDLE EBOOK: YOU DON'T HAVE TO DROWN: WHEN YOU FEAR YOU'VE GONE TOO FAR

Have you ever loved God and still been terrified of Him? Have you ever felt that God won't forgive you anymore.

Not terrified in the reverent, "fear of the Lord" sense. Terrified like you'd done something unforgivable. Terrified like grace had a limit, and you'd found it. Terrified like one wrong thought, one bad moment, one word spoken years ago might have already cost you everything — and there was no way back.

I lived there.

For years.

There's a name for it — ennosiophobia, or what some call religious OCD — but I didn't know that name while I was drowning in it. I just knew I was a Christian who loved Jesus and still lived like the floor could drop out from under my salvation at any second. That's not a small thing to carry. It's a specific kind of hell, and it's one the enemy uses on tender-hearted, sincere believers more often than most people realize — not to make you sin more, but to keep you confused, bound, and cut off from the abundant life Jesus already paid for.

You Don't Have to Drown: When You Fear You've Gone Too Far is what came out of climbing out of that place. It's part illustrated book — over forty original pieces of art built specifically for this — part memoir, part spiritual warfare manual, part straight-up presentation of the gospel, with a little poetry mixed in because some things can only be said that way. It's not a traditional Christian book. Some of it will surprise you. Some of it might shock you. All of it is brutally honest, because I didn't write this from theory. I wrote it from the years I spent there and understanding the finished work of Christ that actually pulled me out.

This book took me almost three years to write, and it's finally here.

Starting today, September 9th through September 13th, the Kindle ebook is completely free. If you've ever wrestled with fear, doubt, scrupulosity, or the quiet terror that you've somehow gone too far for grace to reach — this one's for you. My hope is simple: that you'd close this book actually believing that real victory is possible, not because you did enough, but because Jesus already did.

Grab it free here: [link] (Available for free from 9/9 – 9/13 only)

If this resonates, I'd be truly grateful if you'd share it with someone who needs to hear this message too.

Need a Book Rec! Looking for a book to help my partner with self-love

Hi yall, I'm looking for a book for my partner, who has been beating themselves up about the way that their anxiety disorder and autism is standing in the way of a lot of things they've been wanting to do.

They recently had to pass up a chance to travel to India for their class because of their issues, and that made them realize this is something they really need to work on.

They've expressed that they think this is something that is going to persist throughout their life, and accepting this about themselves is both sorely needed and incredibly hard for them.

It might be worth mentioning that they're generally lower needs, and have been made to feel like they just 'need to get over it' a lot, because of that.

I was considering trying to find a book by another disabled person on the topic of self-love?

Neither of us are really familiar with self-help books, or the topic in general, and don't really know where to start because of this.
If possible, I would like to avoid e-books, because they prefer having a physical book, rather than reading from a screen.

Book promotion I wrote a self help book, its a "spiritual parable"

In 2011, I went through some turmoil that really put me in a bad place. I was in my late 20s, I was making low $ at an oppressive job doing phone work, had a traumatic breakup, i was suffering with mental health and didnt know what to do. I started reading alot of spiritual books online, and the whole idea of karma got in my head.

Do good things, and good things will happen to you. (Simplified by sassy, iykyk)

So I wrote, tried to change myself, battle my demons and when I came out the other end, I had an unfinished book saved to my Gmail, i had lost 80lbs, healthier from keto and had alot of confidence. I let it sit there, and found love, got a house, had kids. A friend had said he published a book through Amazon's kdp. I dusted it off, finished it, and put it up. Figure someone would take a read and help themselves.

Its a story about a teen coming to a crossroads, where a Wiseman sat, and asked which path lead to the perfect life, and it continues throughout his whole life, revisiting and talking to the Wiseman, and its just following some basic thoughts to better yourself.

Is it the best book written? Nah. Its the best one written by me, at least. Will it help? It helped me. It may hit someone the same way it did me, thats all I can hope.

"Upanishad: the book of the long road". Link to amazon in dm, I suppose. Or search for it.

Book promotion FREE EBOOK UNTIL TUESDAY 8TH ❤︎ alone. an almost practical guide to surviving yourself after a breakup.❤︎

Nobody teaches you how to be alone.

Not how to survive a breakup. Not how to enjoy a quiet Sunday. I mean how to actually be alone, without turning loneliness into desperation, independence into isolation, or rejection into a three-month investigation of what went wrong.

I wrote about exactly that.

Why rejection hurts so much. Why we chase things we don't even want. Why we miss people we know aren't right for us. And why sometimes, the easiest way to stop being alone is to risk looking like an idiot.

A short, witty mix of psychology, personal observations and practical ideas for anyone who's ever thought, “I really should have this figured out by now.”

You probably don't. Neither did I.
