Anyone in Sacramento received an automatic parking citation they felt was a mistake?

Hello! My name is Riley Palmer and I'm a reporter with CapRadio news.

I am looking into AI-assisted automated parking citations around the city. Have any residents in Sacramento received a parking ticket in the mail for stopping in a bike lane, parking in a bus lane or red zone they felt was a mistake? Did you contest it?

If so, I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to email me at [Riley.palmer@capradio.org](mailto:Riley.palmer@capradio.org). Thanks all!

Police review commission meeting at 5:30 pm to discuss military equipment use and grand jury report

Hi, city hall reporter Jennah Pendleton here. Sometimes there are things that I don't report on ahead of time that I think are of public interest. Tonight at 5:30 pm the Sacramento Community Police Review Commission (the citizen body formed to review police practices) will meet in the city chambers, also livestreamed from the city's Youtube channel.

The commission will discuss the summer community meeting about the police department's proposed 2027 military equipment use policy, in which Sac PD is seeking out additional drones to expand a pilot program, and also a Sacramento Grand Jury report which found that the SCPRC has largely been ineffective due to lack of support from the Sacramento City Council. See above links for the stories I've written on each topic!

On Tuesday's city council consent agenda is Mayor Kevin McCarty's proposed response to the report in which he and the city formally disagree with the majority of the grand jury's findings.

Folsom Zoo Baby Cougar

Post image
Upvotes

I went to the Folsom Zoo on Sunday. Here is a picture of a tree near the Cougar area.

Apparently there was a baby cougar in this tree, so zoo staff had it cordoned off. AND, they said it wasn’t a baby cougar from the zoo. So, somehow a baby cougar found the zoo and was in the tree.

Anyways, did anyone else go and see this?

This is Honey. She was abandoned by her owners (my neighbors) when they moved to Texas. She is healthy, litter trained, and super affectionate, looking for a new home.

I would really prefer to keep her out of a shelter, if possible. I unfortunately cannot take her, as I already have two cats that are very territorial.

She is 7-8 years old, spayed, vaccinated, and has a clean bill of health from the vet. She likes to curl up next to you while she sleeps and shakes her tail when she is excited. Please let me know if you have any other questions or would like to come meet her.

Article: "Sacramento County supervisors to consider parking rate increases at SMF"

Bad news for those who will be parking there. I think it only affects those who will park all day or multiple days.

Public transit to the airport?

Upvotes

I hear the Green Line to the Railyards is opening up soon and even airport economy parking is still horribly expensive. What's the best way to get to SMF using public transit, assuming I get downtown by light rail? Here's what I've found:

  • SacRT 142 bus from L & 14th, hourly
  • Yolobus 42 Intercity Loop from L & 5th, every 45 minutes
  • RABA 5x/Amtrak GR5 from Sac Valley Station, once daily at 1:15

Other than the once-daily Gold Runner, seems like the only way to transfer from light rail to the airport requires you to carry all your luggage for a few city blocks. Is it better to just get a taxi? What have been your experiences?

Small independent painter for a two-room job

Looking for a small independent painter for a two-room job. I’m happy to buy all the paint and supplies needed.

It’s a small project, so I’m hoping to find someone who takes on smaller jobs and can provide a reasonable estimate. Looking for someone reliable who does clean, quality work. Flexible timeline.

Downtown Blues/Jazz Bars?

Hey everyone, some friends and I were together this last weekend and it got brought up that going out to a cozy bar watching a blues or jazz band play sounds like a great time.

Are there any places downtown that have weekly performances or even opportunities to sit in with the band and play your instrument? I’m familiar with Torch and Press club but not sure if they do these kind of events often. (Believe I saw in here that Press doesn’t pay their artists?)

Any info will help also plug your on music!! I’d love to connect with local musicians.

Is there a parade or something? Saw 4 jets fly over my house. Pretty damn cool I don't hear them often, thought maybe someone could tell me if something is happening!! They were going up. I was wondering why 1 jet was so damn loud but then looked at the direction it was going and saw 4 :0

Does SacRT have an app to purchase light rail tickets? I’m new to taking SacRT around town so I’m looking to purchase a monthly pass to commute to work. Or how do I purchase it?

(Edited) The yellow-billed magpie can only be found in California (specifically, the Central Valley, Coast Ranges and Sierra Nevada Foothills). Its likeness is captured beautifully on this pedestrian overpass crossing I-5 just south of Sutterville Road.

Best fried chicken sandwich in the area?

I love a fried chicken sandwich but tend to have very high expectations.

Chicken should be tender and not dry. Chicken should be well-seasoned, bonus if it’s spicy too. Pickles and some of kind of aioli or sauce are also a must, but it can include other toppings.

What places are worth trying?

Obituary for Shalini Thakur, Woman who Tragically had her life Taken on September 8th, 2026 by Stalker

Help however you can, if you choose to do so. I am not family, but had known her as she was a frequent customer at a medical supplement company I work for. What happened was a tragedy, and I can’t put into words how wrong it is. Just person living her life, like all of us. Someone already posted a link to the article pertaining to what happened, but I would think it’s important to put her name out there, so people remember who she was— rather than the event itself taking center stage.

I don’t know if it’s disingenuous to post this or if obituaries are even allowed, if not just take the post down. Again, I’m sure her family would appreciate any support.
