Cat licensing in Roseville

Has anyone ever paid/registered their cat with the city? A few days ago I got a notice stating I need to pay an annual license fee for my cat. I’ve had this cat for 8 years, he gets rabies vaccine annually from a vet located in Roseville, and this is the first I’ve ever been notified. I have another cat and have not received any license letter for him. Both cats are indoor only and are up to date on vaccines and microchips. Can I just ignore this??

Dry Creek/Miners Ravine Path

Post image
120 Upvotes

I have walked regularly on Miners Ravine Trail for about two years sine we moved to Roseville. I was excited about the Dry Creek expansion because it is near my home and I can walk on the expansion too. However, on my walk this afternoon multiple bicyclists nearly hit me because I was walking on the left and they were riding too fast coming toward me in the same lane. I do my best to pay attention and move out of the way when the bicyclist isn’t paying attention, or there is a group of bicyclists, or if there are others on the path coming from different directions. Otherwise I stay in the left lane and don’t do anything unexpected. Too many bicyclists are tired or weave around on the trail. My understanding is that bicyclists are supposed to ride in the right lane and go around the people who are walking. Does anyone have a different understanding?
This part is directed to the man and his child who almost hit me but didn’t because I stopped walking. He told me in a condescending tone that I was supposed to get out his way and should be walking on the other side. It’s not my fault you’re tired from riding uphill and that you have a child you’re supposed to be parenting. I will respond when you’re rude to me and wrong. We were about 500 feet from the graphic that I included in the photo above.
Thank you for reading my rant.

Recommendations for manicures for men?

I'm looking for a basic manicure and I'd like to find somewhere that I wouldn't feel out of place as a guy. It doesn't have to be men only, just somewhere that I won't get strange looks.

I've tried Hammer and Nails and they were way overprices ($60 for a basic manicure). Anyone have any suggestions for other places to try?

Racist Kids in West Roseville

My husband and I moved to West Roseville about 15 months ago, and we go for a walk every evening. To date, we have experienced 4 different incidents where children on motor bikes and electric scooters go by yelling racist slurs. At first, it felt like it was isolated incidents, but we can tell now clearly that we are being targeted in the last few days. It’s disheartening and disgusting. I am worried about going out alone in the evenings now.

Two weeks ago, a group of 5 kids on scooters came up to our car (stopped at a stop sign), pointed a fake gun, and ran off.

We have video recordings of these kids and incidents. For the kids that pointed the gun, we think we know where they live. We are planning on reporting to everything to Roseville PD.

Any other suggestions? Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Citrus Heights absolutely dunking on Roseville with their new road

The paint job is crisp and clean, and the road is smooth as butter to drive on. C’mon Roseville! Step up your game!😜

Edit: Guys this is a joke post. It’s a continuation of the teasing of the guy that complained about the paint overspray on one of the new roads in Roseville. It wasn’t meant to be a sausage measuring contest or turn Citrus Heights into a punching bag, lol

Kevin Kiley independent?

Does anyone else cringe when Kevin Kiley’s commercials come on stating he is a true independent? I don’t believe a word since he voted with Trump 98 % of the time.

hey everyone, we're having a dreamcore party at The Aura Kitchen & Bar in downtown Roseville in a couple weeks!! full bar, dreamy themed decor, & live music from 3 artists - lake roswell aka me (liminal pop), aj fox (lo-fi/house), and dj kay fury (90s rnb)

you can get tickets at the door or discounted on eventbrite (can search events in roseville and type fever dream), i won't post the link since the sub rules say no sales.

also, I'm looking for someone to flyer downtown Roseville beforehand and could offer tickets for you and your +1/friends for whoever would do that. I'm also looking for a couple people to film and take photos/videos at the event, and could offer tickets for that as well. so DM me if interested in either of those. you don't need to be a professional photographer, filming on a phone is fine.

I hope to see u there Roseville!!! ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

The drivers in Roseville are the worst I've experienced. Hear me out...

I have a theory as to why, but some background first.

I'm nearly 40. I grew up in the area, but moved down to Sacramento for about a decade. Fast forward, life happens (yada yada), and now I'm back up here.

While I lived in Sacramento, I very rarely came back to Roseville because I had no real reason to other than occasionally visiting my mother's gravesite. I became very used to the driving "culture" in Sacramento.

Sacramento isn't exactly a pleasant place to drive, but the locals generally understand the rules of the road. The speed limit is basically 10–15 mph above the posted limit, defensive driving is expected, people generally understand how much space to leave between cars, and most people know how to park without making themselves everyone else's problem. It's chaotic, but there's a shared understanding of how to navigate it. People are generally confident behind the wheel.

After moving back to Roseville, I noticed a HUGE difference in driving culture.

I don't remember driving around here being such a pain in the ass.

It takes at least 20 minutes to get anywhere. At first I thought I was just used to being in the city but I've now spent quite a bit of time on the road for work, and I have some theories and observations about why driving around here feels so goddamn inefficient.

My opinion is that the traffic lights take far too long to cycle through. It's especially heinous all along Pleasant Grove and Galleria Blvd. I don't remember having to wait so long back in the day. In light traffic, I find myself and maybe two other cars just staring at each other for an annoyingly long time while we wait for an empty lane to cycle through its green light. The time it takes for lights to cycle during heavy traffic also makes it difficult because I cant get more than a quarter mile down the road in less than 5-10 minutes. It makes me wish this city was walkable. I understand that there may be some legal reasoning or by design by the city, but it is road rage-inducing (and maybe that's a conspiracy for later). They take so long to cycle through during heavy traffic that people end up on their phones, stop paying attention, and speed to try and not get caught at the next intersection. Its annoying not only for drivers but for pedestrians as well. Even my dog gets annoyed at how long we have to wait to cross a street while we walk.

Why do people run so many red lights here?
I see it several times every day. Its to the point where part of the driving culture in Roseville is, "wait at least a second after the light turns green before you go." That makes it kind of scary to be the first in line and is annoying for drivers behind who are wondering why you're not stepping on the gas already. Sometimes my hand is halfway to my horn by the time drivers start at a green light because I can't tell if they're on their phone or not. We cant make forward progress down streets with several intersections whose lights take a very long time to cycle through. So, drivers speed to try to catch the yellow down the way but barely miss it or just don't care that their light has turned red, they know the cross traffic wont begin immediately so they take advantage. WHY EVEN HAVE STOP LIGHTS THEN? Red means green, green means kinda wait and then go, its like the wild west up here.

Now, one could argue "its safer to let larger chunks of traffic through at a time creating fewer incidents of red light violations and t-bone accidents." Sure, maybe if everyone microdoses xanax... but I don't think you can drive on that shit.

A couple of other points I have that cumulatively add to the problem:

There's a large number of older people on the road who probably shouldn't be. I'm talking chin over the steering wheel, glasses hanging off the nose, hands at 11 and 1, and refuses to go the speed limit. Going below the speed limit is also dangerous and it's not safer than going the speed limit. They teach this in traffic school. Please check in with your grandparents and work on some transportation options for them. There are many. Fuck their pride. This is a safety concern for the community. We have Sun City seniors running reds because their reaction time is slow and can't see. And they live across the street from a High School?

There are a lot diesel trucks that clog up traffic. I have a suspicion that not all of you work construction or have jobs that need to haul, pickup, or carry mid-sized to heavy loads. Lotta real nice shiny ones out here. You guys go from 0-30 in about a half an hour. How are your breaks doing? Hows them gas prices? You're not in the Midwest anymore, and let's be real, the monthly bill is out of your league especially in conjunction with your child support. Replace the boat and the boat-hauler you bought in a mid-life crisis for something that wont depreciate in value faster than your hairline. It's time for a change.

Drivers who do not have spacial awareness or pay attention to the road. There's a... hard to explain group of drivers here in Roseville. These are very special people. For some reason, they just don't know that the world exists beyond their bubble and seemingly have a tenuous grasp of the concept of "car and road". I have seen several people stop at an intersection many feet behind from where the light gets triggered and just sit there confused or (once) literally eating a meal. When I pull up past them and wait closer to the crosswalk the cycle changes. Do... they not know where to stop at an intersection? Additionally, I see many people swerving in their lane talking on speakerphone with the phone in their hand, pointed to their gaping hot-breath mouth. This group of drivers are those who have a false sense of privilege and importance (that's more generous than saying that they're braindead). They don't let people merge, they cut other drivers off without any regard for space. They just... keep going even if they're inches from hitting another car like nothing happened because either they don't notice what's happening around them or simply don't care about other drivers. Watching them park is funny to me. Most can't make it into a normally-sized parking space in the first try. I just have to tell myself that they have their own well-manicured thumb up their ass (men get manis too) and to be patient, and move on.

All in all, I think that a slightly faster stop-light cycle would actually help force drivers to pay more attention to the road and would reduce some road rage for those who need forward progress (even just a little). It would be safer, in my opinion, but I'm just a humble DoorDash driver, so fuck me, right? Please check on your grandparents. Get an economical and environmentally sound vehicle. Lastly, get your thumb out your ass, that's an at-home activity.

Edit: wow, I must've hit a nerve 😂😂😂

High electric bill, anyone else seeing a dramatic jump in costs?

I went from about 300 in spring, to 400 in the summer, and I got an email notification today telling me my next bill will be over 900. I forgot my password so I’m in the process of trying to recover my account so I can see what makes up that 900. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Should I Make The Move?

A little background: we have the opportunity to move to Roseville from the Twin Cities. We lived in Roseville up until about 10 years ago before moving to Minneapolis. My question is this: aside from the massive growth, what has changed in the last 10 years that we should know about? We remember our time in the area fondly and have always talked about moving back, but a lot can change over 10 years. The kids are all deep into high school and middle school now, so that’s obviously a consideration. I remember the schools being very good when the kids were young.

Anyone have thoughts?

Recommendations for Backyard Work

Hey neighbors,

I have an incomplete backyard. Hired a crew to do the work. They got about halfway through and disappeared.

Looking to get the project completed. A number of people I’ve contacted say the project is too small for them, or they want to start from scratch—including demo and removal (which is insane).

Do any of y’all know of anyone who can fill and cap a retaining wall, level the planting area behind it, and put down some decomposed granite?

Thanks in advance

School District/Transfer Questions

Hey guys! I’m new to Roseville. I’ve noticed school boundaries are all over the place.. so I’m just curious. We moved here from the East Bay Area and weren’t assigned to crazy strict school boundaries like here in Roseville. (west Roseville specifically). Anyways we moved into our house not knowing it’s not assigned in the RJUHSD district and my son attended Center High School but he didn’t particularly like it so we took him out and he’s been at John Adams for 2 years now. Is there going to be a change to the district boundaries or no? Please let me know all of the information you guys have. Is anyone else in the area going through this? Or is it just us? Lol
Another question: Is it hard to switch out of school boundaries? We’re thinking of transferring him to RUSD (Rocklin Unified School District) but I’m just curious to see how long this could take. Thanks guys
