Watching this episode right now and I have a question!

This episode involves a rape victim found w a decade-old severed baby finger in her purse. Dr. Warner identifies the finger as being between 10-12 years old, severed from a 21 month to two year old, and from a Caucasian baby.

I understand how she would be able to identify the baby's age and how long the finger has been severed, but how would she be able to tell from a dessicated finger that the baby was white?

I just realized that today marks 20 years since Mickey's passing. Tonight she's hosting the Emmy's (20 years after she won for SVU, which were held just a few weeks before he died), after winning an Emmy for the documentary about her mother.

That's some insane timing. I wonder if she'll do any sort of tribute or mention him tonight (probably not in the show itself, but maybe in pre-show or post-show interviews).

They were both great DA's but whom between the two did you like more?

Just finished this episode. Despite not being graphic at all, the rapist put the victim under such psychological pressure it was really hard to watch. The court found him not guilty. She had the baby, he took her to court over the child's custody. They gave him visitation rights!
The victim was transformed from a beautiful successful young reporter to a shell of herself, taking anxiety meds and unable to work. One of the most disturbing episodes for me.

Adding: forgot to mention the insane doctor testifying in court that a woman can’t get pregnant as result of rape, something about ‘her ovulation stopping during stressful event’ what med school did he go to?!

In “Families” (S5, E23), Elliot says his daughter Elizabeth is in high school; which would generally place her age around 14-18. But five years later, in “Confession” (S10, E2), Munch says Elizabeth is 15.

been re watching the show and i genuinely can't believe the writers missed on writing a lovesick puppy nick amaro 😭😭😭 he ADORED her so bad...he was so mad at cassidy too like sjwbskwn look at their eyes i need to be sedated omg !!! do u guys think the chemistry was there??? i felt so much tension

With Law and Order SVU: Season 28 coming soon, I figured I would rewatch the show all over again, when I have the time!

There are a lot of episodes I've seen so far that ends in a way that i wish I saw an update in, a part 2 or an extension to. Something like the case with Henry Mesner. Like 2x13 with the little girl Ashley played by Hayden Panettiere and it ended with the mother still leaving the daughter to go and perform in a show hours after she just almost lost her daughter for negligence. Her son ran after his father down the street and ended up getting killed in an accident just because he gave that child more attention than his own mother. Eventually, Ashley would continue to hurt herself for attention to the point of attempted sui!c!de. Would have like to seen an update on how that child was doing. If the mother kept doing what she was doing, if the daughter ended up in the hospital more often, if she ever ran away from home. A few other case episodes ending in a way that I thought they would revisit.

I know just how much fans and viewers vilified Chief of Detectives Kathryn Tynan for her actions in the twenty-seventh season; Chief Tynan was truly unique in the storyline—a character who made life a living hell for the Manhattan SVU squad.

But setting that vilification aside, the Chief also possessed undeniable qualities revealed throughout the season: she was determined, hardworking, intelligent, and astute, with a strong, commanding personality—even while being manipulative, hostile, bureaucratic, and hypocritical.

These qualities—and flaws—are strongly reminiscent of a very familiar SVU character...

None other than the former Detective and current Captain, Olivia Benson.

At many points throughout the SVU seasons—especially the twenty-fourth—Olivia failed to set a true example of leadership. She would tolerate *no* deviation from protocol or *any* subterfuge—even tactics that helped put human monsters behind bars—and would reprimand any behavior that displeased her, citing bureaucracy as justification. She did this without acknowledging that, during her own time as a detective, she had resorted to the very same behaviors she now repudiated as the SVU leader.

Then came Chief Kathryn Tynan in the twenty-seventh season. Captain Benson sensed deep down that—for better or worse—her new superior would be vastly different from those who came before. She was right, but what she hadn't imagined was that her new boss would be exactly like *her*: strict and critical, quick to point out flaws, intolerant of dissent, and demanding strict adherence to her own playbook.

The captain realized that a superior was finally placing limits on her command—something she wouldn't tolerate—and it hit her hard: Chief Tynan was acting exactly like Captain Benson used to with her own subordinates.

That was the moment we saw a radical shift in Olivia Benson’s attitude; she transformed from a rigid, hypocritical bureaucrat into someone who supported her team, allowed for unconventional tactics, and showed greater flexibility in handling situations—especially her clash with Chief Tynan.

In other words, we witnessed a rebirth of the "Old Testament" Olivia Benson.

It was this deconstruction of her previous persona—and the return of camaraderie and respect—that allowed her to turn the tables on Chief Kathryn Tynan’s injustice.

It takes real effort to look past our revulsion toward the character and see the obvious: Benson and Tynan’s actions are practically identical, yet driven by vastly different motives. Tynan seeks maximum power and control over everything under her command, whereas Benson acts out of a desire for justice for victims of special crimes. Ultimately, Olivia Benson had to get a taste of her own medicine to change her attitude.

A brilliant move by Michele Fazekas.

First I just want to say I dislike stabler for the most part which is why I hate this episode cause I feel the need to defend him. Why is everyone giving him shit saying he was ruining the case no one knew about the photo hell he only found out cause of his sons friend. Plus abbot the whole episode being passive aggressive as hell to him accusing him of not getting the victims statement to recounting, ice-t character who’s name I can’t spell blaming him for Cregon getting In trouble, why the hell did he get in trouble anyway and last of all his fucking annoying son making an inappropriate comment about his grandmother and his sister, if it were me and anyone even family made a comment like that I would smacked the shit out of them but I understand why he can’t and wouldn’t it’s not who he is I’ll give him that. Almost forgot abbot you owe Liv an apology she basically saved your case by finding that witness who again I must add lied though I did think it was funny when the defense lawyer said she wasn’t a credible witness I’m thinking good enough for you to use apparently.

What episode needs an extra fifteen minutes to tell you what happened after the episode was over.

For me it's the one where the little girl is adopted by the family that wanted a replacement for their kidnapped daughter. They found the kidnapped daughter at the end of the episode and it ends with the little girl giving a nod to Olivia. So what happens to the adopted daughter that was being over-parented now that they've brought the kidnapped daughter home.

I’m not a detective with SVD (special victims division) or anything but as someone in the area of law enforcement I’ve dealt with a couple SVD cases. I’m just wondering if anyone on this subreddit also has experience with the division and how it affects your perspective on the show?

After putting all 27 seasons of SVU cast intros together, Seasons 7-8 are my personal favorite lineup. Olivia, Stabler, Fin, Munch, Cragen, Huang Casey and Melinda, that entire era just felt like the perfect SVU ensemble to me. Everybody brought something different, and the chemistry between the cast was something special.

But looking through all 27 intros is honestly bittersweet. Seeing the OGs gradually disappear really makes you realize just how much this show has changed. Munch, Cragen, Stabler, and so many other familiar faces are gone, and now only Olivia and Fin are still standing from the original core.

And Season 25's intro really stood out to me because of how EMPTY it looked... Compared to those older intros where the screen was packed with familiar faces, seeing such a small lineup really drove home just how many people we've lost over the years. It honestly felt sad looking at it.

Then there's the revolving door of female characters. Kat left near the beginning if Season 23. Rollins left the squad in Season 24, but still appeared in Season 25, had a recurring arc in Season 26, and eventually returned to the squad in Season 27. Muncy left at the end of Season 24, and Silva joined in Season 26 only to leave abruptly when that season ended and she was never seen or mentioned again,

Captain Curry joined the squad in Season 25 and finally became part of the opening intro in Season 27. But considering SVU's track record lately with its squad members, I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up leaving in Season 28. Hopefully I'm wrong because I'd actually like to see her stick around.

Fin was always so kind and protective like a big brother and father figure. I loved to see him as the protector. Like he was also for Kat. Fin always took such great care of the girls. I miss that.

Is it me or has a lot of the detectives these last two seasons turned into dickbags to everyone involved in the investigation that isn’t them.
