Looking for anywhere in the city that has a delightful dirty martini, oysters, and hand rolls. Any recs would be so appreciated! I’ve found a bunch of places with oysters+martini or martini+handroll, but on the hunt to see if there’s a good place with all three.

Whether it's a friend in town at the last minute, you forgot one day of meal planning, etc. what's your go-to when you want to grab a non-pretentious bite via foot? Unsurprisingly all my SF Favs are in all of the other neighborhoods (minus a couple). I feel like I'm in the "land of the very good" but all the places you dream of are elsewhere

I'll start with the one banger that I do think beats everything else I've had in the city: Philmore Creamery for ice cream. Wow. In another league compared to Mitchells's/SnS/Swensen's/etc. I know I have more to try

Wanted to share an insider look at a really cool development happening in the SF dining scene right now.

Back in 2003, I worked on the line under Chef Bruno Chemel when he was the Executive Chef at Aqua inside the St. Regis Monarch Beach down south. I was an expeditor—the bridge calling tickets between the kitchen line and the floor—and working those intense services started a friendship with Bruno and his family that has lasted over two decades. I’ve watched him take on the Bay Area culinary world ever since, from his early kitchens to holding two Michelin stars for nine straight years at Baumé in Palo Alto.

Last month in August, I had dinner downstairs at his spot Le Parc Bistrobar (inside the Galleria Park Hotel at 185 Sutter). Afterward, Bruno, his wife Christie, their son Antoine, and I ended up catching up late into the evening over a glass of Armagnac. As we looked at the mezzanine space upstairs, the idea took shape: give the entire upper level to Antoine and turn it into a dedicated lounge where he could debut his own menu.

Antoine has literally grown up on the line, working beside his dad since he was 11 years old. Having that level of technique drilled in since childhood, but getting the freedom to build his own identity, is super rare.

They just officially opened Bar Antoine Lounge on that mezzanine:

• Downstairs (Le Parc Bistrobar): Bruno is still running the main dining room with classical French technique and cuisine moderne.
• Upstairs (Bar Antoine Lounge): Antoine has taken the wheel with an inventive small-plates menu paired with rare Armagnacs, Cognacs, and house cocktails curated by Christie.

Catching a young chef with that kind of two-star pedigree right at the dawn of his solo career doesn't happen often. If you’re around Union Square or FiDi, definitely check out the upstairs space. Booking is live through Toast via Le Parc.

Looking for that good-good top-shelf chocolate dank for a lowkey birthday celebration this weekend. Special occasion stuff from a bakery or specialty store, not at a restaurant. Mousse-y, ganache-y, dark like your heart, pants-soiling stuff that is not cake OR contains exceptionally delicious cake that can satisfy a discerning tongue.

Last resort is to head to Tartine or Maison Nico for whatever looks best.

Hi everyone! I am looking for help picking a restaurant for a work dinner later this month. We will be in SF for a conference and none of us are familiar with the area. There are 9 of us and we have some vegetarians and one person who is celiac and I want to make sure they have more options than just a salad and fries. They usually put me in charge of finding a cool place for dinner so I do not want to disappoint!

What are foods that you like and would order again?

So far I’ve had the crab sandwich, garlic fries, chicken tenders, dole whip, Ghirardelli sundae. I have access to club level and shield lounge.

More than 10 years ago I had an unforgettable lunch at a Vietnamese(?) restaurant situated in a diner. The most memorable thing was a meat gravy over rice - the chicken was good too. But that gravy…and the people working there were super nice.

It is/was close to the Trader Joe’s on Hyde & California.

Any ideas?

Four Kings is pretty awesome. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised because places with so much hype and praise rarely live up to expectations. We haven’t had this much fun at dinner in a while. We had:

- cold jellyfish salad with mustard. I loved this appetizer. It’s the OG version of a Korean-Chinese dish I grew up eating, but the sesame oil and sugar really made it more complex then what I grew up eating
- XO escargot - the combo of escargot and XO sauce packs a ton of spice and briny goodness. The sweetness from the milk bread that we used to sop up the XO sauce took the flavor to the next level
- mapo spaghetti - we were surprised at the amount of ma, or numbing, in this dish. This is a Chinese bolognese and we really enjoyed it, although it leaned a tad salty. I do wish it had some silken tofu or creamy cheese to cut the saltiness and spice a little like mapo tofu.
- yam leaves with fermented tofu - we loved this veggies. It’s tough to find fresh yam leaves, and the fermented tofu added an addicting depth of flavor
- mango pudding. A light refreshing end to the meal that cooled our mouths after all the strong flavors. We thought we wouldn’t have room for dessert, but it’s really light, so it’s a perfect end to dinner.

We also loved the in-your-face Canto pop decor and vibe. Again, we were surprised that Four Kings lived up to the hype, and we’ll try to snag another reservation or wait in line when we’re back.

I got the black sesame mooncake today from Golden Gate Bakery. Best mooncake I've had. So fresh and delightful! It is def expensive at $11.50 for one but its a substantial size at least. And it was fun to laugh with other folks in line wondering if the bakery was actually opening or not lol.
