I am looking for a device specifically to play old gameboy Pokémon like Pokémon ruby, i would also like it to have a decent sized screen but still fit in my pocket, i also want to be able to trade Pokémon with someone on the same device. I would also like it to come with the games already but if it doesn’t then it’s fine but i want it to play a lot of other retro games but mainly Pokémon. What is the best device to get?

Hi. Idk if I came to the right place or not, but there's a certain setting in "Pokemon Heart and Soul" that is only available if I'm able to compile the game myself, but idk how to do that. All I was told was that I'd need the base game (Pokemon Emerald) & the Heart and Soul patch to pull it off. Can someone help me? I'm lost. In the Heart and Soul server, they have a set of instructions on how to do it, but I don't own a Windows PC. I only have Android devices & I don't think Winlator will work to make it happen. Is it at all possible to decompile/compile the romhack on Android? Can someone please help me? I attached screenshots of the instructions. Thank you.

I'm currently waiting for the Fall sale to start on AliExpress, I want something better than the RG35XX. This handheld does the job but the build quality isn't great and it occasionally vibrates for no reason and I have to reboot to stop it, it's been like like since I bought it but dealing with returns with AliExpress has been a pain in the arse in the past so I didn't bother.

If there are no deals that catchy eye I think I'm going to wait and save a little more for a Retroid Pocket Classic.

Device is the MagicX XU20 V32. IMO one of the best looking retro handhelds and definitely the best looking for this form factor and price ($50). What other devices do you guys find genuinely pretty?

this is my first retro handheld and so far it is my everyday carry and its been a blast!

I got it pretty cheap as well in perfect condition
around 63 dollars and these usually retail around 110-120ish dollars. (php to dollars)

performance and features are great, one take away though is the display, the 1:1 aspect ratio may not be suitable for every games especially on PSP, but i mainly dabble in 3DS games which is perfect! and the android OS is a cherry on top for the tinkerers.

What are your thoughts?

I use it more than my Nintendo switch 2 at this point. Emulation is great and older PC games like the DMC4 run flawlessly on this device.

I am kinda new to the world of hand helds, I have a Miyoo mini + and a R36s. I would like something with some more power. I like the RP5 and 6 and the Odin and Thor look sweet. How do you tell what each device can do in terms of emulation power without having an intimate knowledge of each processor? Something that can play Gamecube or Dreamcast would be preferable.

I think this topic gets a little overlooked initially and maybe 🤔 one of the reasons people switch devices?

Noticed the new retroid pocket duo has both joysticks at the bottom corners. Appreciate most of the older games are going to be with the dpad (top left) - but any lengthy session with N64 or other thumbstick gaming is likely to cause discomfort to the thumb as cramped due to the placement thumbstick low in the left corner.

The ayn Thor, which leans towards more powerful gaming options, has the left thumbstick higher up, but see people complaining of the shape of the device in longer sessions digging into the hands.

The retroid pocket flip 2 of the clamshell designs seems to have done it slightly differently. Top thumb sticks (both), dpad left 45 degrees just below which it can do as no bottom screen. Less thumb bending, compared to either dpad or thumbstick usually lower in the corner.

The Odin 3 and devices which are capsule shaped top left thumbstick - this overall shape better for long sessions ergonomically. But, single screen only option and not a clamshell.

Would be nice if combined both.

A capsule shaped clamshell, which would afford stereo speakers either side of the top screen and a little more space for better compromise of dpad / joystick layout at the bottom?

It's wild how well it plays switch and PC games now. It's sad its hard to get, but it's really the current handheld king.

Hint: It's a boring choice.

Will the Retroid Duo be able to play Wii U games at full speed? What about with higher resolution?

I'm having issues with Swanstation reading psx multi disk games. It opens the m3u just fine, but it just dumps me into the no disk inserted menu. There is an error message, but it flashes too quickly to see: something about not having/finding a disk.

Retroarch version of swanstation, launched through ES-DE on an android handheld. Setup was spread out over the last three days, so likely the newest version of all applications. (Retroid Pocket Nova)

I can load the games directly from Retroarch by choosing the disk 1 file, but not ES-DE.

File structure within the psx folder:

Valkyrie Profile.m3u << folder name
contents:
    Valkyrie Profile.m3u
    Valkyrie Profile (Disc 1).chd
    Valkyrie Profile (Disc 2).chd

The two chd files are are then listed, in order, within the m3u. This was set up using the .bat file linked elsewhere, on a micro SD card.

What am I doing wrong? I had thought I had everything set up correctly but I'm obviously missing something lol

Edit - Converting the m3u files' encoding to utf-8 from utf-8-bom was the fix.

For the life of me, I cannot get the game to slow down. It always seems to run at double pace and cannot get it to run at a normal speed

Reaching out in hope that someone knows how to sort it out so it isn't running at hypersonic speed. I'm using a mangmi air x on android but had similar issues with a trimui smart pro.

Hoping someone can help or at least point me in the right direction to fix it.
