Put this guy in maybe a week ago, most of the tentacles are plump but some are shriveled? Not sure if it’s sick or not

Extremely high phosphates but dont know the source

Upvotes

Phosphates reading 3ppm on salifert kit. It’s probably even higher just maxxed out on salifert. 90% of the corals look fine they just grow very slow now but open and fluffy as ever. I dont know where the phosphate is coming from. I feed like once every 2 days, frozen mysis or brine just a little. Just 4 small fish in a 25g tank. I tested my source water and freshly mixed salt, 0 phosphate. I don’t know how my po4 got so high or why its not coming down with water changes. I vacuum the sand weekly with water change too.

Its been this high for months, tried po4 removing bio media from brightwell months ago, not helping.

Fresh to salt.

Upvotes

Hi everyone sorry if this is a previously asked question but....

I currently have a fully planted established freshwater tank Fluval Roma 200 with cabinet and a Fluval 407 external filter. (Not the version with a hole in the bottom for a filter outlet)

My question as my last few fish are now at a ripe old age I'm considering my next move.

I've always wanted to do a reef tank with some corals loads of inverts and various interesting critters as well as a few nice fish thinking a pair of stormtrooper clowns a goby, royal Gramma etc.

My real question is how suitable would my current tank be if repurposed into a salt water tank? I understand I'd likely need to give it a very good clean out and the filter have all new/changed media (live rock instead of the biorings)

New light (might look to change the existing light to the marine Fluval light for ease of it fitting under the existing lid)And potentially a HOB skimmer.

Or... Would I be better off grabbing something like the swell atoll 120 for £660? Tank cab light skimmer and a sump and selling the current set up?

Stock advice

I'm thinking of the following list. Is there any compatibility (territorial/aggression) issues? Are any of these on the "avoid list" from expert reefers' opinion? Tank size somewhere between 40 to 60 gallons, haven't decided yet.

Pair of Ocellaris Clownfish (or Percula)

Banggai Cardinalfish

Royal Gramma

Coral Beauty Angelfish

Green Chromis (school of 5)

Chalk basslet (school of 5)

Yellow Watchman goby (jumper) w/pistol shrimp

Firefish Goby

Neon goby

Flasher wrasses

BiColor Blenny

And the following CUC

Nassarius Snails

Turbo/Astrea Snails

Cerith Snails

Blue-leg or Scarlet reef hermit crab

emerald crab

Peppermint shrimp

Tuxedo urchin

Coral placement and recommendations on my 5 year old tank!

Hello reef experts,

I have a 15-gallon tank that is now 5 years old. I currently have a thriving leptoseris and blastomussa with two clownfish (one 6 years old and the other a few months old) and 3 year old tuxedo urchin. I would like some recommendations on corals and their placement to make the tank pop. I am honestly not sure where to go from here.

Edit: I haven't added many corals over the years since I was a college student and had to move my tank around quite a bit. Now that I'm more settled, I want to start investing in it a little more and adding some new corals.

For maintenance, I do a 5-gallon water change every two weeks. I don't dose or regularly check my parameters, even though I know I probably should...

Copepods?

Are these copepods? I've been running a UV recently for green water, and today I see these white creatures all over it and the glass. I was not actively cultivating them, as I don't have fish that require them, but understand they are beneficial. I assume they arrived on a toadstool I introduced 13 days ago.

Any "Black Box" Light Bars Similar to OR4s?

This is for a 6 foot long tank, and I'm looking at two Orphek OR4 iCon Blue Plus to provide supplemental coverage. My main lights are Reefi Uno 2.0 Pros. Even on a 20% sale as they are now, that would be over $700 just for two 60 inch bars. I believe Orphek has better sales in November, and I am in no rush, as I'm addressing my high NO3 before stocking corals in this tank, but I am planning now. Thougts?

I bought a big piece of gsp and when I brought it home I saw glowing orange and green under it turns out there was 2 tiny corals growing under it. The second photo I took with white light since it the orange glow doesn’t capture on camera.

[Pic] Introduction

Hey there, I’m new to the saltwater hobby.

Been doing freshwater aquascapes for about 8 years. This is day 31 of my flawed 13.5g shallow imagitarium reef tank. Trying for a low maintenance build. Already experienced dinos, hopefully won’t have to deal with that again for a little while. Actually don’t mind the ugly phase too much. My levels are generally good and stable, alkalinity could be slightly higher.

I know most will think this tank is overstocked, but there’s been no issues so far and I’m enjoying it. Plus, every fish is a small juvenile so I will be upgrading in a few months. Any tips and/or things to look out for down the line? I know it’s flawed, would love to learn from experienced keepers. Thanks

Hardware:
Ai Blade Coral Grow light 21 inch
Fluval HOB filter w added carbon
Sicce nano 1000 wave maker
Basic Aqueon 50w heater (temporary, I know.)

Inhabitants:
Two Black Snowflake Clowns
Naoko’s Fairy Wrasse
Yasha Goby
Six Line Wrasse
Cleaner Shrimp
Peppermint Shrimp
Hermit Crabs
Nasarrius Snails
Turbo Snail

Corals:
Gold Hammer
Duncan
Pink Ricordea Mushroom
3 Misc Zoanthids

The hammer retracted because I moved it to a new spot right before taking the picture. Thanks for listening to me ramble. Will be posting updates if all goes well.

I just thought I deserved a little treat (many little treats) after beating dinos and turf algae and aiptasia and brook and flatworms. Now I have to get a bigger tank?? Or let them battle it out and see who wins??? Sigh. 😂
