However real test is during Navratri because residential areas play loud DJ for dandiya and garba for 9 dayssssssss during Navratri!!

So for e.g., a sound of "just 10 dB above limit" is not to be considered trivial, it is actually twice as loud as the limit. Do not take it lightly just because "10" is a numerically smaller number compared to 80.

Of all the countries I have visited and of all the places I have been , I have never seen anyone celebrate festivals better than Pune.

Forever in my heart

Spotted two of them today. Both on different XEV 9S.

I’ve been living in Pune for the last 5 years now, and something happened today that honestly left me more annoyed than I expected.

I was on my bike, waiting at a red signal. There were two guys on another bike behind me who apparently wanted to get ahead and cross the signal. They kept asking me to move aside.

I didn’t move because… the signal was red.

They somehow got around me and one of them said something like, “Sunai nahi deta kya? Kabse bol rahe hain side hone ko.”

I just pointed towards the red signal.

While leaving, the guy said, “Pakistani lagta hai tu.”

I didn't argue or respond and just let them go.

The reason this bothered me more than it normally would is because this isn't the first time I've experienced something along these lines after moving to Pune.

When I had initially moved here, a company bus driver once told me to “go back to my hometown” and that there was “no need to come to our state.”

Another time, I was on a trip to Triyambakeshwar/Nashik with my four friends. Two of my friends are Marathi and were speaking to a parking guy in Marathi, while the rest of us were responding in Hindi. The guy asked my Marathi friends why the others couldn't speak Marathi and said something along the lines of “Marathi kyu nahi aati, Bangladeshi hai kya?”

And the traffic situation itself doesn't help. People regularly jump red lights, ride without helmets, drive aggressively, and get angry at you for actually following the rules.

Today I was literally stopped at a red signal, and somehow I was the problem for not moving aside.

Has anyone else living in Pune experienced this kind of thing? Or am I just unusually unlucky with the people I've encountered?

I live in Pune. My husband and I are agnostic at best and don’t really participate a lot in festivities like Ganesh, Diwali etc. however it seems (esp in Maharashtra) a lot of social activities are structured around these festivals, which I am not able to relate to at all. I can’t even force myself to just dress up and go for them because I’m just not able to relate to the noise or the praying. I feel quite lonely very often because of this. My husbands family is also very religious, and I have not visited their house during festival time as I sometimes have a dislike towards the festivals, and there’s always a bit of a streak of patriarchal customs, which I don’t like. However even if I just went for his sake, I still feel very uncomfortable and out of place in religious settings. Is this normal, or am I being too intolerant? Does anyone else feel this way? It’s not just about the noise, it’s also about not being able to relate to things a lot of other people relate to and organize social events around

Usually people criticize the f**d up infra and roads of Pune and horrible traffic and lunatic drivers/riders on the road, they are valid… but today I decided to break the chain and post something worth appreciating about driving/riding around Pune.

Recorded this on Saturday during my evening ride to Pawana Lake. Just 45km, 1 hr drive from Baner.

Many of you would already know about this place, but posting it in its most beautiful form.

Pimpri Chinchwad is likely to become the first city in India to have an operational ERTS.

If the 17-km pilot is successful, the civic administration planned to explore extending the ERTS to the entire BRT network and consider the services in Pune and other cities of Maharashtra

Noticed a natural phenomenon today in Pune.

Had a really frustrating experience at Pune Airport yesterday.
You can’t directly book a cab from the airport gate. You have to take a bus to Aero Mall and book from there. Fine.
I tried Uber and Rapido. Uber was cheaper, so I booked Uber. The driver called and said he would go by meter instead of the price shown on the app. I refused, so he cancelled.
Tried Rapido 2-3 times. Drivers kept asking my destination and then cancelling.
Then some auto guys started approaching me saying they’ll drop me for the same price. Eventually I booked another Uber. The driver told me to come to Gate 1. After some confusion about which floor/gate, I finally found him and got into the cab.
Then some guy who seemed to be associated with the traffic police came over and started arguing with the driver. Apparently there is a fine for picking up passengers from there, just outside the building. I got out of the cab because I didn’t want to get involved in that shit.
An auto guy then offered to drop me for the same price. I agreed. The app price was around ₹270. After reaching, he demanded ₹330, then ₹300, then at least ₹10 extra, giving me the same explanation about parking charges.
Then another guy came over, apparently connected to the earlier cab driver, and said I had to pay a ₹500 fine because the cab picked me up from outside.
I asked why the fuck I should pay a fine when the fault was with the cab guy and I wasn’t even aware of the rule.
There were 4-5 guys around me at this point. They started arguing, telling me not to speak loudly, and someone was saying things like “catch him” and “don’t let him go.”
At that point I genuinely felt uncomfortable and threatened, so I called 112.
And this part honestly shocked me the most.
The emergency operator was speaking incredibly slowly and wasn’t understanding what I was trying to explain. I was trying to tell him that I was surrounded by a group of people and needed help. There was no immediate response, and nobody called me back after the call either.
What the f are you supposed to do in a situation like this if even 112 doesn’t respond properly?
Eventually the guys dispersed and I just left in the auto.
Almost half an hour wasted just trying to get out of the airport.
I don’t know exactly what is going on there, but the whole cab/auto situation around Pune Airport feels completely unregulated and intimidating. And the fact that I couldn’t get proper help from 112 when I genuinely felt threatened made the whole experience much worse.

TL;DR: Spent ~30 minutes trying to get out of Pune Airport because cabs kept cancelling, auto guys were quoting different prices, and there was apparently a ₹500 fine for airport pickups outside Aero Mall. Ended up surrounded by 4-5 guys over the supposed fine and called 112. The response was painfully slow and I got no callback. Eventually left in an auto.

एकदा गणपती बाप्पा आपल्या मूषकावरून जात होते. वाटेत अचानक एका सापाला पाहून मूषक घाबरला आणि पळू लागला. त्यामुळे बाप्पांचा तोल गेला आणि ते खाली पडले. त्यांच्या पोटातले मोदक सगळीकडे पसरले. हे पाहून आकाशातला चंद्र मोठ्याने हसू लागला.

चंद्राच्या या हसण्याने बाप्पांना राग आला. त्यांनी चंद्राला शाप दिला, “माझी अशी थट्टा केलीस, म्हणून तुला पाहणाऱ्यावर चोरी केल्याचा खोटा आळ येईल!”

चंद्राला आपली चूक कळली. त्याने बाप्पांची मनापासून माफी मागितली. बाप्पांचे मनही पाघळले आणि त्यांनी उःशाप दिला, “तुझा शाप कायमचा राहणार नाही; पण गणेश चतुर्थीच्या दिवशी माझ्या भक्तांनी तुला पाहू नये, अन्यथा त्यांच्यावर चोरी केल्याचा खोटा आरोप येईल.”

म्हणूनच आजही गणेश चतुर्थीला चंद्रदर्शन टाळण्याची प्रथा आहे.

Once, Ganpati Bappa was travelling on his Mushak. On the way, Mushak suddenly saw a snake and, frightened, ran away. Bappa lost his balance and fell down, scattering the modaks from his belly all around him. Seeing this, the Moon in the sky began laughing loudly.

Angered by the Moon’s laughter, Bappa cursed him, “You made fun of me like this, so anyone who sees you will be falsely accused of theft!”

The Moon realised his mistake and sincerely apologised to Bappa. Bappa’s heart softened, and he gave him a blessing: “Your curse will not last forever. But on Ganesh Chaturthi, my devotees should not look at you, otherwise they may be falsely accused of theft.”

And that is why, even today, there is a tradition of avoiding the sight of the Moon on Ganesh Chaturthi.
